Huwbot reaches 1000 supporters in 32 hours!

Posted by ,

Thank you to everyone who's supported the project so far! Huwbot's designer Eero is currently on holiday otherwise I am sure he'd thank you here himself. I know he will be thrilled.

If you've not yet supported the project, we'd really appreciate if you did so. You can do so here: it only takes 10 seconds.

Thank you in advance -- we can do this!!!

Huwbot for president!

(What do you mean that is not what we voted for, I am sure he would do a fine job at that)

Site stats at the bottom of this page say 9162 members have logged in in the last 24 hours. Come on folks, take a minute to support the Huwbot!

We need to create a pool for guessing what date it will hit 10,000 (because you know it will). I'm gonna guess Sept 8th!

I would love to but LEGO requires your LEGO account and Ideas account to be the same while preventing them from being integrated, a case of LEGO's failed IT. It's costing Huwbot my vote and maybe that of many other users.

No leader is perfect but Huwbot might ban Tik Tok. At least he would do better job than Biden.

Tik Tok has been raising more than an eyebrow in relation to personal security that said banning it may be to far, might as well regulate all social apps and ask them to disclose their policies more.
I support this project and I am doing the most to raise votes for him.

I think the article gave it a boost but the fuel is running out. I guess it will get 10,000 by the beginning of august.

By in Czechia,

It is not going to happen and you all are de-illusioned, it is not a matter of "the quality of the product" - but instead of the "POLITICS"

as mentioned earlier.. Brickset is a long-standing partner of LEGO group as the sets reviews go (that it receives for free of charge)

how would it look and appear to the "outside" that suddenly "out of nowhere" some "cr**p-like" object made from less than 200 pcs made it to the IDEAS winner - bearing at all the time the mark of one of the MOST AFFILIATE lego channels .. ?

This is absurd .. and this is twice as absurd that the "management" of Brickset can not see the absurdity of it.. They CAN SEE that it is not proper to publish leaked pictures of the upcoming sets.. but they DO NOT see that it is IMPROPER to use their (now "family governed") platform to push this even further with a help of a tens of thousands BS users who just dont give a sh*t (aka not examining the backgrounds of the Brickset management roles)

I guess that there is some kind of "conflict of the interest" (as in the Wall Sreet stock exchange rules"... Huw should either disclose AT EACH review that it was made by one of his kind. (familly) . or take the approach as others did - not to accept free sets from LEGO but instead purchase them for their own money.. its quite useless to mentino what are the comparisions between some "independent" reviewer that has to pay 350 USD for a box - and Brickset reviewer that gots it for free.. and as of the last two years was able TO FULLY CRITICIZE only ONE SET - Technic - Fast and Furious - Dominic car.. that was THE ONLY one that brickset stand fully against.. kind of not fullly enough as there were sincerely more deep sh*ths than that.

simply: even seeing the news at these times and totally laughbable stock regarding black vs. whiw.. it would not surprise me, that BS would run the wave and try something similar.. its their side, they can do whatever they want to do with that,. but each action leaves something behind.

Generally speaking, I would say that BS has kind of "sat back" (enjoying the streaming of new LEGO lets for a review) - and yet most of them during last two years getting at least "recommended for a purchase" (despite som obvious and factual remarks in the reviews).. what does it say? In my opinon that BrickSet reviews CAN BE BIASED as much as anyone else's there is just so little that differentiates BS from other LEGO fan based sites..

above all . HUW bringing into a "FAMILY TEAM" - Alice (presumably the daughter) and "his wife".. great deal of indepedent and unbiased opinions

A fan site made a fan sourced set and fans are voting on it.... ya gotta lighten up a bit.

Wow, you must be fun at parties.

Look, there are some previous Lego Ideas (and Cuusoo) sets that went viral because some web site, community, or celebrity supported them. Nothing is wrong with BrickSet supporting something. In the end, the decision of what to approve and what not to approve comes down to Lego.

It sounds like you have a bone to pick for some issue and think that reviewers are biased. Hey, you know what...so what if they are? I don't think they are, but we can disagree. If you don't like this site's reviews, maybe you should stop reading them.

Please don’t register as a user just to give yourself a platform to complain about this site. It’s a waste of your time as much as ours.

We’re a community around here so supporting this model is just a symbol of this (in as much as fans of Seinfeld will vote for a Seinfeld set despite it being of little interest to those outside the community).

Enjoy the fun, and Lego probably understand 10,000 votes equals only 10,000 purchasers worldwide, so what’s the worst that could happen?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Yeah, that's what my friend from Ohio would call a turd in the punchbowl. Moving on.

How about that Huwbot! I ordered some parts to make my own but now I'm not sure if I should wait for the official set...

Gravatar
By in Australia,

There's even plenty of sets that make it to 10,000 but Lego decides not to pick.

So if you're losing sleep over the (horrifying?) thought of Huwbot becoming an official set, my question is, why? Who cares?

It's a bit of fun. And Lego probably doesn't care beyond, can they make money from selling this set? That's really all that matters to them. I know that I'd buy a copy of this set, without thinking twice. I really like the design, I think it'd be a day-one purchase for me.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Boy some people can be a real drag. It's a cute robot, put down the pitchfork. Also, it seems to be lost on certain people that *this is a design that the community wants*. The contest was popular, the winning design was popular, and people have wanted to build it ever since. This is not some twisted popularity contest that Brickset wants to win, this is a chance for our community to have something to treasure. Also none of the funds would even go to Brickset! The designer is a completely seperate entity!

Also while it's relevant, I think it was a fantastic decision to involve more Brickset family. Having someone in the target market review a product brings an entirely new (and often better) perspective. The only downside that I can possibly see is people like this.

Either way, I'll be doing everything in my power to ensure Huwbot gets to 10k. Onwards to victory!

Gravatar
By in United States,

@V_14 It's just a joke and there is nothing wrong about it at all, as long as it doesn't become overly offensive.

@LukasM You're sure a joy kill and I thought I was overly serious at times. Who cares if BrickSet is promoting this or "abusing" its popularity for it, at the end of the day BrickSet is a FAN site. I'm not going to support it but I'm not going to go down where I'm whining as some man-child. If it gets 10K good for them, if it doesn't it was fun while it lasted. It's all for some good fun. Besides, I think pretty fun to look at the numbers slowly go up to 10K haha

Just after the politics has finished I don't want to be a killjoy and I think Brickset, and its readers are great, Huwbot is a wonderful design, but something feels wrong about All of brickset voting for a set on Ideas, Its almost "fixing the lottery". IF there are approx 10,000 members then any design can be forced over the line and it makes a mockery of Ideas needing 10,000 supporters doesn't it?

@LukasM I'm not going to delete your obnoxious comments but I have now prevented you from commenting any more. I'm getting fed up with your negative attitude. If you don't like the way the site is run and the people who run it, the answer is simple. Go and find a site that you do like: there's no need to spout your opinions here.

On the other hand, if you'd like to contribute more positively here, perhaps you'd like to write a review for the home page, and if that works out we we can look at sending you sets to review.

I like Huwbot, I would buy it if it was available because I (albeit generally passively) use this website a lot. If I wouldn't buy him I wouldn't back him.

I don't think there's an issue with promotion, isn't that basically how projects get to 10k? There have been a few IP based projects that have hit it based on external promotion (didn't the Golden Girls one take a couple of days?), this is at least primarily driven by fans of Lego and not fans of TV show/film/comic etc

Gravatar

It is a source of some small sadness that I can't ever use LEGO Ideas, seemingly due to a conflict with my LEGO account. This is the one issue that the usually wonderful LEGO Customer Service team have declined to ever try and help with.

Why is this any different to 10000 fans of Home Alone voting for a Home Alone set, or 10000 fans of Seinfeld voting for that, or 10000 fans of pianos voting for a piano, or ....

Just because you are a member of a site doesn't mean you will think the same way as every other member. Individuals can choose to vote for it, or not."

I’m with @CCC on this one. Plus @Banners and a couple of others are having problems linking their accounts, and I don’t even have an account. There are quite a lot of people on Brickset who are KFOLs (I’m not fyi) and won’t have an account or just frankly won’t be interested. Not a lot of the 200,000 odd Brickset members are logging in on a daily basis and also half of them probably will only be interested in new sets released.

Overall, that’s only a few thousand that will have seen or be interested in the articles and, like @LukasM has shown, not all of them agree with the project. It’s not a lot of the 200,000 members that will actually participate. Besides, Huw isn’t saying “vote for Huwbot or your membership will be destroyed” or anything like that. He’s just making it known that a much-loved robot is on LEGO Ideas and can be voted for now. Personally, I’m all for the project and I can’t wait to see how long it takes to reach the inevitable 10,000.

After the 69 magazine issue and this, @huw seems like a tired baby sister desperately trying to get his 200000 users to behave.

And yes, many Brickset users are TFOL and are not old enough for Ideas. I am twelve and registering for Ideas would be a violation of COPPA (I am using US laws here as I am completely alien to the HK constitution which is constantly getting “amended”). Of course, I could lie about my age but ultimately I want to submit my own Ideas project, and false registering may cause the project to be banned or disapproved. Anyways, good luck on reaching 100,000 supporters! While the mass market appeal may be limited (I doubt most people on the street know about Huwbot or Brickset), it will certainly be a treat for Brickset users >)

Kind of why I voted for it. I'd like to see TLG have to review it and do the 10k interview. Plus Ideas is already a mockery of itself. I don't think they know what they want to be as a theme or what their role should be in the LEGO portfolio of themes and AFOLs can't figure it out, either.
