Tips and Tricks #15

Posted by ,

Hello everyone, Tiago again, back with some more Tips and Tricks!

This week's article takes us back to city essentials.

Taxi

It's been a while since I did proper vehicles, so I figured this could be a good place to start.

It brings back some memories because I had this type of taxi in a painting in my bedroom when I was a kid! That's where the inspiration comes from.

Urinals

Well... This is an awkward one so I won't talk much about it.

I hope it's useful for your public spaces on your LEGO Cities and please, don't be like the guy in the middle...

Street sweeper

Let's keep the streets clean with this little and compact build.

Takes very few pieces to put together something nice, and I particularly like the gear use in here, even though they're not very stable...

See you guys again next week and Build Something Fun Today!

By in Singapore,

Love your tutorials. I’ll make sure to include a drain when I build those urinals. Don’t wanna leave the mis-aimed studs mellowing.

This is getting inappropriate...

WHAT HAPPENED IN THE MIDDLE URINAL (also great street sweeper)

@ALFIE22 Apparently one of those lovely Lego minifigs who can’t be bothered to flush.

By in Puerto Rico,

I suspect a few cities around the globe need those urinals rather than let people use the streets as toilets (the city of San Francisco for starters), great constructions but as there is already a few taxi and street sweeper sets then I only need the bathroom, thanks for this important health addition.

By in Turkey,

Oddly my favorite is the urinals...

I love that the vehicles are better scaled to Lego minifigs than current vehicles. So cute!

the street sweeper is so cute <3

By in Hungary,

I love the urinals!
Never knew they are called like this.

By in Estonia,

Anatomically a minifig can't really use these urinals (too high of a barrier), it is easier and more accurate to use white helmets for urinals.

By in Russian Federation,

neat things!

The vehicles are not that special since there are already similar official city sets.

Those urinals might be a little high for mid and short legged gents...

What helmet piece? I want my urinals to be as accurate as possible :P

Interesting juxtaposition between these small sets and the next post, which is the large and very expensive piano.

I think these three sets have more fun, value, and playability than the $350 piano.

@Lordmoral:
In Japan they do both! No, seriously, a friend of mine lived there for a few years and said that it's not uncommon to see urinals mounted to the outside of buildings. It's socially acceptable for adult men to just walk up to one of these and relieve himself. Kids and women still have to go find an interior restroom.

That's one fancy urinal! Next time maybe specify _which_ helmet.

I was at a lego convention when I over heard a dad and his daughter talking about where the minifigures go to the bathroom. The dad said that they used toilets like we do. She strongly disagreed. I pointed to a to MOC with a toilet. The dad was happy he was correct. Good job.

@Castlebrick:
I've got six porta-potties just for the Flash. No, seriously. I also designed a bicycle-powered food cart (using the original bicycle frame with the cart in back, because this was back in 2014, long before the front-cart frame was introduced), so Flash stops off for a burnt hot dog, then a porta-potty. After that is a taco, followed by a porta-potty. He gets a turkey leg, and stops by the next porta-potty. Next is some sushi, and another porta-potty. Last up is desert (ice cream), and concluding with a porta-potty. But the best one is a CHAR brand coffee cart, with Flash surrounded by about 20 discarded coffee cups...and a quick trip through a porta-potty. If I go all out with it, it can take 1-2 hours to add it to a layout (there's over 55 feet of Flash trail, including segments that allow him to run up the side of a building), but it tends to be very popular when I do.
