Apologies for the lack of news and reviews today: we're having a rare heatwave in the UK at the moment (30+c) and the last thing I want to be doing is sitting in front of a keyboard!

However, I do need to tell you about an offer at IWOOT: £30 off 42110 Land Rover Defender, which brings the price down to £129.99. I believe that's the cheapest it's been in the UK, at least this year, so if you still need to add it to your collection (and I recommend you do, see my review), now's a good time to do so.

It's free delivery to UK addresses and cheap shipping overseas, so IWOOT is a good place to buy LEGO if it's expensive or hard to find where you live.

Place your order, see what other LEGO sets are on offer there and check out our range of Brickset merchandise now!

Outside? In this heat? Today was a day for staying inside and making Lego...

That's a good set, at an even better price. I had no regrets buying it at launch.

Now if only it had a B model to tempt me towards buying a second.

Not an official B-model, but Dyen on Rebrickable published a LMP Racer alternate build that's almost as good as the original. You can search for MOC-42338 on that site if you're interested.

By in United Kingdom,

This is a set I would avoid building in a heatwave, as with all technic I've been around I usually screw the build up and then get really frustrated that I have to redo bits, most or all of it which warms me up, so doing it during a heat wave would probably just kill me.

Better get these while you can, before the German Peace Society realizes the Land Rover Wolf military vehicle is just a slightly modified Defender.

@Huw and others, I totally understand that tolerance of weather is relative to what one is accustomed, but coming from an area where the regular daily high summer temperature is at or above 35c with humidity around 98%, you can adapt mostly to what nature throws at you. Of course, that doesn't mean you will enjoy it. I do wonder about at what point the temperature in the trunk of my car(s) will impact the various LEGO sets stored there that I cannot yet shoe-horn into our conditioned home.

@Huw I'm sorry to say this given I know these affiliate links are a significant part of keeping the site running, but can I suggest that anyone thinking of doing so should NEVER buy from IWOOT. I placed an order of over £400 on various items, including Lego, back in April, and not a single one has turned up. Even worse is that IWOOT have refused to refund me, as the were "looking into the matter", and have now stopped all contact with me. It has now got to the point of reporting them to trading standards. Reading reviews of IWOOT from others, it appears this is by no means a one off, with many other customers robbed of their money over several years.

I have used IWOOT and not had a problem, however they have taken far longer to deliver than expected. People obviously post negative reviews when they have a bad experience but rarely do when they have a positive one so looking online can make somewhere look far worse than is the typical customer experience. Just because you’ve had a terrible experience doesn’t mean nobody else should ever use them.

I've contacted @DB_Bricks directly to see whether my contact at IWOOT can help resolve the issue.

The difference is that most of the houses in the US are air conditioned. The very vast majority of houses in the UK don’t have air conditioning, including all the people I know’s houses. An affordable, effective fan is hard to come by these days and even then, a lot of electricity is used all day to power fans across your house. This heat is practically unheard of in the UK, even in high summer.

Forgive me, but this subject is hilarious to me. I remember a conversation on a podcast where two foreigners living in England discussed this, with one complaining severely about a lack of air conditioning in the UK. He was very frustrated because after a decade of living in London he found that it gets hot every summer, but instead of acknowledging that summer is the time of the year when it gets hot and installing air conditioning, people would call it a "heatwave" and write it off as a weird anomalous occurrence, insisting that they don't need air conditioning because it's normally pretty chill and rarely gets so hot... And then the next summer, rinse and repeat. He pointed out how ridiculous he finds all the "heatwave" headlines appearing every year, reasoning that if something happens every year, it's not an anomaly, it's just the new norm. And although I'm not in the UK, I remember how suffering the experience of visiting LEGOLAND Windsor on a hot summer day back in 2013 was, so I'm inclined to agree with him.

I'm sorry, but now whenever people talk about a "heatwave" in the UK, I just can't take it seriously. Don't get me wrong, I know how frustrating 30C heat can be. Which is why in such weather I can't imagine doing anything other than sitting in front of a keyboard - in a nicely conditioned room! As should be the norm anywhere in the world where it gets even slightly above 20C even for a brief period of time.
