Tips and Tricks #19
Posted by Catarino,Hi guys, Tiago here, back with another Tips and Tricks!
Today we're going to be looking at some landscaping type builds, because it isn't always just about furniture and small objects!
Pirate Island
Poor pirate, did he get what he wanted in the end?
A small build inspired by the pirate reveals by LEGO a couple of weeks ago, and an interesting technique for the palm tree using a flexible hose. You should totally check it out!
Cacti
If, on the other hand, your favourite theme is western related you need to have the most common desert plant. Tons of them!
While this is a well known technique to make cacti, it is too good not to be shared, and while I was at it, I decided to play a bit with the ground to turn everything more appealing. With a few angled plates you have a very interesting display piece.
Bridge
I love sideways building and have always been dreaming about a way of doing a wooden bridge. LEGO Math at its finest with this build, using headlight bricks in a very interesting way.
For a bridge you also need a river and so a bit of landscaping was needed.
Do you build landscapes or is it just city and concrete with you and your LEGO builds?
You know the drill, try to Build Something Fun Today!

I've never seen the word "cactus" in plural so this "cacti" looked strange. But if it works like this, then be it!
Each time I see a new episode, I keep telling myself "OK, this one is the best so far" but then the next comes and always amazes me. Excellent tips for landscaping which I honestly consider one of the most impressive and difficult to master, aspects of LEGO building. Thanks again for your time!
P.S: Some ideas down the line for your consideration
- Medieval furniture
- Wild West furniture
- Napoleonic/Victorian Era furniture (the "heavy luxurious ones like armchairs etc")
- Printing press
- "A visit to" line, with mini builds from machine shop, chemistry, carpenter's shop, grandma's house, etc, old or new
What pirate reveals?
Talking about bridges, how would you manage to build and arched one please? I have MOCed and extended my Ninjago Monastery of Spinjitzu, bringing a little river and an arched bridge over it, but I am not that satisfied with it. What would be the first building technique that would come to your mind for such a thing, minifig scaled of course? Whether you have time to answer or not, I still and always enjoy your tips and tricks, often quite simple but so efficient! Thank you for them all.
I see he’s got the Spongebob pirate hat too.

Here's a neat bridge tutorial that might work: http://www.brickbuilt.org/?p=12080

Very neat and clever design. Sincere thanks for the link :)
I love the technique for building the palm tee trunk!
Miss the palm trees back from the Paradisa theme.
It's stuff like this which makes me wish I was better at free-form landscape building. Well done!

Having worked in a botanical garden, both are accepted.
Glad to see Tiago is keeping the image of the classic LEGO palm tree alive with that design! I think this is a much better idea that just using brown Technic angle sockets to approximate a tree trunk. Plus, I am a little biased since I have lots of the brown tubes on hand to make these trees. Will look very nice in my revamped 90s Town layout!

Say WHAT?! WHERE?! 0__0
@Lego_Lord_Mayorca:
Nothing against this design, but the Flintstones set has a decent palm tree in it.
Brilliant! I’d say these are my favourite yet!

I think he is simply reffering to the creator pirate ship and barracuda bay,...
That bridge is awesome! I love it! I am so going to build all of them!
