I note that is has been nearly ten months since my last Ideas Showcase article.

In that time, these fourteen budding LEGO Ideas designers have made contact with me to help promote their LEGO product Ideas (as they are known).

I am always interested in your thoughts about which projects do you like.

Read on as I add my comments of these worthy Ideas projects.

221B Baker Street from Sherlock (BBC)

By angleshikitty

221B Baker Street is synonymous as the famous address of Sherlock Holmes.

This modular building is based on the BBC drama TV series based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous Sherlock Holmes detective stories.

The interior is decorated with completed furniture to recreate scenes in the drama. In order to increase playability, the model is hinged in a few places.

This is Angleshikitty's only Ideas project.

This Ideas project has reached 1,000 Supporters and has just under ten months to reach the next milestone 5,000 Supporters.

Rock Raiders Ultimate Collector's Series Loader Dozer

By pacific bricks

Rock Raiders Ultimate Collector's Series Loader Dozer represents an Ultimate Collector's Series version of one of Pacific Brick's childhood sets. The Loader Dozer is from the classic Rock Raiders theme.

Pacific Bricks has two Ideas projects active. Both have reached over 1,000 Supporters.

Rock Raiders has only just reached 1,000 Supporters and has just under a year to reach the next milestone: 5,000 Supporters.

Snoopy and Woodstock: Comic Legends

By mickeyD0715

I grew up reading the iconic Peanuts comic strip by Charles Schulz and Snoopy was one of my favourite characters in those stories.

Mickey D0715 has tried his best to replicate the key details of these two iconic characters - Snoopy and Woodstock - and the dog house that they so often occupied.

This is the only active Ideas project that Mickey D0715 has running at the moment. It has just under 1,000 Supporters and I can see it reaching the 1,000 Supporters milestone very soon.

The Wizard of Oz

By legodud9898

The Wizard of Oz is a 1939 American musical fantasy film produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. It is widely regarded as one of the greatest films of all time.

LEGO Dud9898 captures the essence of The Wizard of Oz and the yellow brick road in this Ideas project.

It has ten days to achieve an extra 330 Supporters to get to the 1,000 Supporter milestone.

Symphony Orchestra

By PieceOnEarth

Orchestras perform a variety of music that many people love and enjoy, ranging from classical masterpieces to iconic movie soundtracks.

As a musician and someone who loves LEGO, PieceOnEarth was inspired to design a buildable Symphony Orchestra.

This Ideas project has a solid 2,000 Supporters with over 450 days to get to the next milestone: 5,000 Supporters.

Johnny Thunder Returns! (The Rover Expedition)

By arselus

Johnny Thunder Is back!

Join Johnny and his daring team: Pippin Reed, Dr. Kilroy, quartermaster Captain Singh, and faithful assistant Hershey, as they embark on an adventurous expedition around the globe in their all-terrain vehicles.

This set was inspired by the classic car designs of LEGO’s Adventurers line.

Arselus has several Ideas projects active that are sitting at several hundred Supporters.

This Ideas project is Arselus' most popular project. At just over 600 Supporters, it has just under ten months to run to achieve the next milestone: 1,000 Supporters.

Nikola Tesla’s Laboratory

By wildbearbricks

Wild Bear Bricks is excited to share with you his minifigure-scale diorama of Nikola Tesla’s Laboratory in Colorado Springs, circa 1900.

This iconic image of Nikola Tesla calmly sitting in a chair reading a book with high voltage electricity flashing around him served as inspiration for this build. Wild Bear Bricks is fascinated by the life and accomplishments of Nikola Tesla and wanted to bring that to LEGO.

It is difficult to estimate the impact that Nikola Tesla has had on modern society. He was a Serbian-American inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, and futurist best known for his contributions to the design of the modern alternating current (AC) electricity supply system.

With 992 Supporters, I am confident that this Ideas project will reach the 1,000 Supporters milestone very soon.

The Princess Bride: The Guilder Frontier

By FSLeinad

The Princess Bride is loved by many people. FSLeinad has always wanted to see it in LEGO, and therefore created the best set through LEGO Ideas.

The classic The Princess Bride is a 1,000 piece project that contains the three classic duels and the journey through the fire swamp.

This Ideas project is FSLeinad's only project submitted to LEGO Ideas.

This Ideas project has a solid 7,100 Supporters and nearly two years to achieve the ultimate milestone: 10K Supporters.

Castle of Lord Afol and the Black Knights

By SleeplessNight

The story: A long time ago the Black Knights ruled the LEGOLAND.

With the fall of LEGOLAND and the arrival of the Royal Knights, their power went into decline, and they were forced into exile. The succession of short-lived kingdoms followed, but none of them managed to bring peace to poor villagers.

The robbers became prevalent and the invasion of Orcs and mythical creatures turned the country to ruins.

SleeplessNight has two Ideas projects. Take a look at The Children of Noisy Village. It is also worthy of support.

This Ideas project has a solid 6,600 Supporters and nearly two years to achieve the ultimate milestone: 10K Supporters.

Another day at the Zoo

By Jonathan291

Welcome to the zoo!

After getting the tickets at the entrance, you can see the ostriches, then turn right and see the parrots and monkeys, pet the starfish and view the crabs.

Continue into the glass tunnel to see the aquarium and walk between the rays, sharks, fish and several other sea-inhabitants.

Can you spot the hidden treasures?

While this Ideas project has only 400 Supporters, it has just under a year to reach the next milestone: 1,000 Supporters.

This is the only Ideas project that Jonathan291 has submitted to LEGO Ideas.

Alice in Wonderland

By szabomate90

"If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?" is a quote by Lewis Carroll in his book Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass

This Ideas project is based on the animated film Alice in Wonderland.

Szabomate90 got inspired to tell Alice's journey in a way it was never told before. Alice's dreams have been recreated as small scenes. As many as possible have been connected because nothing's impossible.

This Ideas project has 3,800 Supporters with a year and a half to reach the next milestone: 5,000 Supporters.

The Aristocats

By dabrick34

Celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Aristocats!

This Ideas project represents the Aristocats’ mansion of the animated film and consists of 2996 pieces.

The building has a garden and two floors with four rooms: on the ground floor, there is the hall, the kitchen and the Edgar’s closet; on the first floor there is the Madame Bonfamille’s room.

The mansion is open behind and it is full of iconic objects.

With only 270 Supporters, this Ideas project has just under a year to reach the next milestone: 1,000 Supporters.

The Notting Hill Market

By Lepralego

This Ideas project is inspired by the Portobello Road Market, one of the most famous street markets in the world, which is located in one of London’s most iconic neighbourhoods: Notting Hill.

With its beautiful pastel townhouses, quaint boutiques and vintage shops painted in hues of lavender, blush, mint green, arctic blue and buttermilk this street scene captures the look and feel of the street market.

This Ideas project has 4,100 Supporters with eighteen months to reach the next milestone: 5,000 Supporters.

Avatar: The Illuminated World of Pandora

By bulldoozer

Step into the world of Pandora.

Explore its lush rainforest landscape filled with magnificent flora and fauna.

Race your banshee across the Hallelujah Mountains while battling human invaders that seek to plunder the moon’s Unobtanium deposits.

Defend yourself against ferocious six-limbed predators and commune with Eywa beneath the Tree of Souls.

And when the lights go out … watch the model’s bioluminescent inhabitants glow in the dark!

From Na’vi artefacts to floating mountains, this LEGO Ideas set, based on James Cameron’s Avatar, is filled with colourful surprises and memorable scenes from the film.

This Ideas project has a solid 7,900 Supporters and over two years to reach the converted 10K Supporter milestone; a target I am confident it will reach.

I am always interested in your thoughts. Do you agree with my comments? Which projects do you like?

I can be reached by the contact feature on my Brickset profile if you would like your Ideas project featured at Brickset.

Feel free to leave feedback and links to your favourite Ideas.

Of those, the rock raiders and that Alice in wonderland set are the only two that really stand out to me. I have no attachment to the former but it looks nice - doubt it would have the support. I have some mild attachment to the old Alice in Wonderland but also doubt it would have the support. It is a distinctive and creative model though.

By in United States,

When I first saw the Alice in Wonderland face I was... not onboard. But the whole rest of the build is really fantastic, and brought me around. Definitely got my support for that one after watching the video!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Alice in Wonderland looks phenomenal; I hope it gets enough votes eventually.

Gravatar
By in Brazil,

Most of them are great indeed, the Rock Raiders one is my fave.

On other hand, showcasing a modular building idea is pointless. There will never be a modular building on the Ideas theme. Never. Recently, I got a feeling that Lego considers the modular buildings as a sort of great prize among the designers of the company. A sort of special thing, since there's only one each year.

The early fan-designed modulars were exceptions, nowadays the things are different. Despite generally looking amazing, the Ideas modulars have no chance.

Which is unfortunate, because it's one of the most popular lines with AFOL. Sure they can get costly, but if they went with a policy of one by their designers and one from the fans through Ideas per year, it'd be a great way to support the line and highlight the very best fan-made modulars out there.

By in Australia,

It's probably too large, but I love how colourful the Notting Hill Market scene is.

I like the zoo, as well. Lego really should capitalise on all those minifig-scale animals, they have. A single zoo would probably be too big a set, but imagine a wider line featuring some kind of conservation-al preserve in the Lego city limits.

By in United States,

Thank you so much for the feature! And thank you fellow Brickset readers for your support of Tesla’s Lab. I have been a Brickset member for many years and have loved these articles so it’s an honor to be included in one.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

The Alice in Wonderland submission is outstanding - so creative. It just got my vote.

Gravatar
By in Latvia,

Really cool projects, I especially like the Avatar, Tesla's Lab and the UCS Rock Raiders projects

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I think my favourite is the Loader dozer for both speaking to my nostalgia but also being a bit different. As much as I'd like to see Johnny Thunder make a return those cars are just kind of cars, the dozer and rock monster are legit something different

Gravatar
By in Australia,

That castle... wow!

I'd never buy it, but it drills deeply into the nostalgia of classic castle, so I gave it a vote :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

avatar be good by time gets ready movies be out.. imagine pieces

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

I like Tesla's lab. I would have made the lightning bolts in trans neon green, to make it stand out more. I always thought the lab was in New York. Colorado Springs, wow. Pop. 21085 in 1900. I've learnt something today and I supported the idea.

By in Estonia,

Let's make Alice happen!

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

Thank you so much for including my Avatar project, Brickset! It's a real honor to be mentioned. My goal for this project is to get it approved hopefully in time for Avatar 2. The sequels are filming right now in New Zealand and some really cool concept from the movie has been shared online. I think it would be awesome for LEGO to get the license for Avatar, especially if they could do glow-in-the-dark parts for the plants and animals.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It's so nice to see this showcase article making a return!! I didn't realise that the designers could reach out to you, I thought you simply featured Ideas that had caught your eye - a PM will be sent shortly :)

I think I've already voted for quite a few of these. Avatar is insanely creative, and Alice in Wonderland just looks amazing. Can't believe I missed the symphony orchestra though, I'd love to have that set!

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Alice one looks terrifying! If a kid had that in their room they'd never sleep again!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Thank you very much for featuring my Symphony Orchestra project! There are so many great project ideas featured here! Congratulations to all the talented creators!

My personal favourite from this selection - I can imagine being able to incorporate this in my modular display somehow

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The Tesla one needs to get made. We literally wouldn't have the modern world we live in now without his inventions.

The Princess Bride one is also brilliant. Simple, yet it contains most of the iconic scenes from the movie in a neat little package.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I want that Rockraiders one!

Gravatar

The Alice In Wonderland Build is impressive, but god is her face creepy....dont want that staring at me from a shelf in the middle of the night...

Same here. I saw the face and went m’eh. Then I watched the video. It would be a day 1 purchase for me if made

Gravatar

Thank you so much for featuring my project of The Princess Bride!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Don't forget Huwbot!

Gravatar
By in United States,

sure, i'll support the Tesla lab. but i'll be damned if i support another licensed set Idea, more than enough of those already!

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

Rock Raiders and the Johnny Thunder projects.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Always have been a fan of Tesla. So I voted for it and would definitely buy that set if it was made available.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Alice in wonderland and Avatar get my vote, although Princess Bride is still the better film...

Gravatar
By in Canada,

221B Baker Street is a no-brainer modular building for me. The only thing standing against it imo is the similarly themed Detective's Office.

Gravatar
By in United States,

How the heck is there another one?

Gravatar
By in United States,

These all look pretty good, except for the Wizard of Oz one. I've been aware of the Alice set for a while and I'd love it to be made, if LEGO was willing to make an Ideas set based on a license they already hold...which they aren't.

I really like your idea of a zoo line, it would be the perfect excuse to introduce new animal moulds: lion, hippo, zebra, giraffe, etc. I would be all over those sets, even more if it meant the return of the goat ;)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I go on every now and then to support what I like but I never saw that Tesla set before. That is a must-have for me!

The Ideas website needs major improvement. It would be nice if you could filter out the ones you've already supported so you can just focus on the ones you haven't seen yet.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'd love to see The Princess Bride made into a Lego set. I don't know if Lego would go for it, but they've done a couple older films so I think it's got a shot.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

The Symphony Orchestra has so much potential, I would definitely get it if it becomes an official set. I also liked Notting Hill Market (so colourful) the Castle and the Children of Noisy Village (the other project by the castle creator) which looks really cool.

Supported all of them, congrats to the creators, I hope you reach the 10k!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Thank you FlagsNZ and Brickset for the mention and support! The projects are great, its so fun to see the creative things that the LEGO community creates .

I especially like Nikola Tesla's Lab, Another Dat at the Zoo, the Symphony Orchestra and Notting Hill Market. Good luck to all the projects!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Nikola's Lab is neat, and paying homage to one of the founders of the modern world. Not sure why Wizard of Oz would be made as the figures have already been available, The Castle is neat, but how many Castle theme sets are sitting on Ideas now? As for anyone doing Disney? Well I thought that LEGO said no ideas sets based on licenses they already have (or was that changed)? Avatar? Surprised people still clamor for that. Once was enough for me, but I guess people will not be sick of it until Cameron is done with his 3000 additional movies that he is making. Rock raiders? I get that was a popular line for LEGO back then (my nephew did love it) but being one of the best lines for LEGO in the late 90's early 2000's is not really saying much. Johnny Thunder? LEGO should just redo the Indy line, The Zoo is interesting, but I think LEGO should do a Zoo subtheme/ 'modular series', that is have an exhibit (like Sea creatures, predators, birds, reptiles, etc), as their own set and people can buy the ones they want and connect them together how they wish. I like the Princess Bride one as well Small, many of the main characters. Like the Orchestra as well neat little set and LEGO may then make new molds for instruments.
However, IMO many of these sets are just not going to get made. There are some amazing ideas sets out there, but all in all I still think the best 'idea's' sets are those that are in the 30-100 USB range. Sets larger than that may be popular, but popular can be different than being profitable (IE people like them, but not enough to afford to buy them when they are actually available).

By in United States,

I don't see many projects that seem like they'd have a chance at being approved. Maybe Peanuts and the orchestra, but that's probably it. However, as someone who has been trying to collect every home video release regardless of format (only missing the original VHS that I know of), the one I'd most like to see go into production is The Princess Bride. I'd probably buy at least three copies of that one. I know it has a huge cult following, but I think what might hurt its chances are the original box office numbers, since it sorta bombed when it first came out. But nobody really knew how to market the film, so very few people were even aware of it (or had any idea what to expect) when it first came out. Since then, it's become one of the most quotable movies ever produced.

@Phoenixio:
Except Ideas has specifically prohibited suggesting themes, or projects that are tied to existing themes. Allowing fans to repeatedly piggyback on something with an annual release may be popular, but so would letting fans design the SW UCS sets. Neither fits the purpose or scope of the Ideas program. Furthermore, people are also complaining about the surge in D2C sets, so people who are barely managing to keep up with the modulars right now would certainly take issue with the idea of doubling their releases regardless of who designs them. SW UCS has, historically, been the only theme or subtheme that has seen two or more releases per year, but now they seem to be trying to split that between one UCS and one MBS set, which eases up on a subset of their target market at least.

By in Belgium,

Way to many IP's. The zoo and castle together with the orchestra deserve credit.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

have you seen this what-it-called--- huwbot thing? It looks promissing.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I like the orchestra, but the castle is my absolute favorite. I would buy that in an instant.
All the others, especially the IP ones, don't really interest me.
And while I appreciate the cool building techniques for that Alice in Wonderland, the end result kind of freaks me out. But I hate that movie anyway, gave me nightmares as a kid, so would never ever consider buying anything associated with it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The charm of the Symphony Orchestra is the brick-built instruments - won't be the same inspired innovation or building experience if TLG were to substitute with molded instruments.

@madforLEGO said:
"As for anyone doing Disney? Well I thought that LEGO said no ideas sets based on licenses they already have (or was that changed)?"

As best I can tell, Lego seems to count each Disney property as a separate license. So far, we've also seen projects like Steamboat Willie and Winnie-the-Pooh get picked, even with an ongoing Disney theme; but they seem to have been considered viable since Lego hadn't done anything with those particular films recently.

It does raise the question of where they draw the line... I assume anything based on the princess movies, for example, wouldn't be permitted through Ideas because of the ongoing theme there; same, likely, with models based on the theme parks. But Disney movies that Lego hasn't touched themselves yet seem to be considered fair game otherwise.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@BionicleJedi:
Steamboat Willie is the only Disney-proper project to get approved. They don't own Winnie the Pooh outright, but licensed some of the rights from the Pooh Properties Trust, and bought out their claim on royalties. That still leaves Stephen Slesinger, Inc., which owns the lion's share of the IP rights, and has licensed portions of them to Disney. So, the Pooh set could be based on the Disney franchise (in which case they'll get branding to that effect), or it could be based on the original books (in which case there probably won't be any mention of them at all).

But Wall-E is Pixar, TRON Legacy is a Disney-owned IP, they picked up Home Alone when the FTC let them buy their way into a monopoly in Hollywood, and due to their ownership of the Muppets IP they are now in bed with Sesame Street (even if they don't actually own it). However, if you look at the IP Conflicts page, they do clearly distinguish between the many, many Disney-owned properties that they have (or recently had) in production, and the Disney Castle and first CMF batch were not enough to keep Steamboat Willie from being approved even though all three releases include versions of Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

Think again. Sesame Street is a modular.

@djtucci18:
So you’ve seen the final design for the set, have you?

Just because it looks one way when the project is first submitted doesn’t mean it won’t change significantly before it hits store shelves. It may be half-depth like Diagon Alley. It may be full buildings but not come with Modular connections (in which case it would probably be easy to add your own, or just pretend they’re there).

Gravatar
By in Germany,

@djtucci18_gmail_com said:

Not really. It's a building, like the Ghostbusters HQ was. But both are quite different from the Modular "formula".

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Avatar is the main one that blows me away, mainly as fantastic and I would never get tired of looking at this piece of art. Its also very intricate suggesting mainly days were spend trying to get the look just right for each creature and then I appreciate how difficult it is to combine them all into a montage which gives the feeling of being on the planet surface. It would also be very popular (already 562 comments on Lego ideas) as near impossible to build yourself as we need TLG to provide all the colorful pieces.
