First picture of The Child
Posted by Huw,
Errant shopkeepers in Luxembourg have put 75318 The Child on the shelves ahead of its official announcement.
The figure, which stands 19cm tall, is priced at €79.50 so is likely to be $80 in the USA when released there, possibly on 1st September but more likely 1st October.
The picture in the bottom right-hand corner suggests that it also comes with a minifigure version of the 50-year-old infant.
You can view a photo of it on the shelf and of the back of the box after the break.
News via Promobricks.
The set can be found in several shops in the small European country including Cactus supermarkets.
Our correspondent in the Grand Duchy says of the pictures: "It’s in a Supermarket chain called Cactus, I recognise the price tag design - they have tonnes of shops in Lux. I imagine it’s probably at their largest store at Belle Etoile shopping centre."
Proof, if needed by LEGO's legal team, that it's for sale in a real shop:

I kinda like the famous MOC that has been around better, but I like that this will prolly be more stable. Either which way, my wallet is hurting this year.
Cute?
Well, haven't built Yoda yet. Now he gets a buddy.
Anyone else getting Gremlins vibes?
I’m no Star Wars guy but as an outside observer I do like the poseable ears!
i wish it came with a frog

Like, a live one, or a brick built one?
I hope it scales nicely with Yoda
Not bad lego...
Congrats on the child, Huw! :)
That’s a yes for me!
Ill make my own moc thanks lol
Unanimous aaaaawwwww.
Does anyone know what piece that is for the knob? I can’t tell wether it’s a new mild or not.
Much better than the buildable Yoda, but the head seems a bit squashed. Also, I think they should have varied the colors of the robe a bit more? Some tan in the color and sleeve ends would have worked well but that's just my opinion.
Overall though, I like it! And it will be out in time for the Mandalorian Season 2! :D

It could be silver colored 61287 that has been used for globes in the past. That way Yoda could hold it. It could also be a Bionicle ball, 54821, but that would just rest in the hand.
Overall set doesn’t look quite as cute. Also rather similar to the buildable Yoda released less than a year ago. I love baby Yoda but I will pass for now
A 1:1 statue of the SW character it represents? So cute!!!
This looks way better than the Yoda statue from last year. I think it is the eyes.
The eyes are so much better than the last Yoda model.
Whoever set that thing out messed up big time. I have a feeling LEGO was going to drop that bomb and have everyone go YIPPEE! Now that can't happen. I hate leaks. Complaints aside, I predict that that thing is going to sell like hotcakes. I'm not completely interested, but it looks good.
I’m only getting it for the baby Yoda fig cause I’m not getting the bigger set
I still haven't watched the Mandalorian so I still don't get the hype surrounding this character.
Don't feed it after midnight

It's okay. Neither do I... Looks like a cool set though.
Nice but I think its too soon for this set. We only got a UCS style Yoda last year even if its an older version just feels way to soon for this imo.
Doubt I'd get this not really something that interests me but its a nice set.
Not bad, to say the least. A fair few exposed studs for my liking and no frog or cup, but I’ll probably get it. It’s cute enough.
And $80 as well. If it doesn’t inflate too much in Australia, than this is the way!

You should give it a watch! Of course, not everyone has the same opinion, but the majority of people who've seen it really love the show.
@Catarino: First, I recommend you DO watch Mandalorian. It's epic. Second, frankly the fact that you don't get the hype is fine. The Child is a good character, but the memes turned him into Baby Yoda and made him toxic. By this point, I count the Child and Baby Yoda as two completely separate characters.

barely... at least in my opinion.
This should’ve been a b-model of Yoda. Allouryens alt build of Yoda looks far better than this set.
Don’t feed this thing past midnight.
Now that's really nice! Great with so much poseability!
It’s cute, but TINY! 19cm High.... yet US$80 !!
Probably will be $120 here in Australia, or very close in price to the much-larger Yoda!
Another nice but ridiculously overpriced Star Wars set!
The Disney tax is strong with this one

Took the words outta my mouth. Looks more like a gremlin than the child to me, but I will still be purchasing one.
Really hoping for a Mandalorian helmet set.
aka The Gizmo

It's ok, I watched it over YouTube, the show basically is a space western.
The ears don’t seem proportioned properly, seemingly too small in comparison.
I mean did we really need another Yoda like buildable figure this soon? I guess I'm not among those that are all hyped surrounding this character. I'm sure it'll make a decent model but would have been nice to get something different.

As does the picture of the minifigure on the display stand on the back of the box ;)

I believe it's the former. In one of the pics you can see a blue 1x1 round plate stuck in it.

Obviously a live one, duh
What is that ball? Or is it a vital plot point? If it is, don't tell me. I haven't seen any episodes yet.

It's the knob from a lever on Mando's ship that the Child uses as a toy.
Still waiting on an Ewok...

Havok211 for the win!
It didn’t come with a frog, but what’s the small silver ball he’s holding?
Oof, now that is cute indeed... Thanks for the news!
In other news, that was a PAINFUL comment section to read; right above where you type in your comment, it says "please read the article & all the comments" but not nearly enough people have.

"i really hope in season 2 the give him a legitimate name so people will finally have to stop calling him baby Yoda"
I think it’s too late for that lol.
The build seemed a little creepy at first (unfitting first The Child), but I’ve since warmed up to the design little. I’m not interested in most sets that aren’t Minifig-scale, though, so I’m probably not getting the set regardless.
Looking good. Good mix of traditional build and new pieces.
It’s a shame they didn’t include the floating stroller, although quite honestly the set is too expensive as it is. I’d much prefer to invest that money into a ship.
The eyes looks awful. Shame because rest looks great!
Wow. Love it! This little guy’s going to sell like crazy.
Definitely buying this when it comes out, so cool :)
I am much more interested in the Razor Crest, especially since I don't think this Baby Yoda is really cute. I think the problem is that the eyes are surrounded by a rectangle, rather than something rounder
Give me a modular instead
Not bad but the MOC on Rebrickable looks better IMHO.
Can someone explain to me how Yoda has human-style eyes, and this thing has vacant black orbs instead? Or how the ears on this thing appear to be physically larger than actual Yoda's ears?

Simple: either Yoda or The Child (or both!) Is atypical of their species.
It's nice! Not sure if it's 80€ nice but it's nice. I kind of miss smaller collectables and display pieces like Wall-E, but this is the way.
I hear in the EU it's going to be marketed under the name "The Mandalorian Bounty Hunter Frog Eating Baby"
It was only a matter of time until they make this due to the Child's popularity. Even though I feel he derailed the show.
And the figure included isn't a minifigure but the baby piece with a different head.

Boom roasted.
Quite cutey and adorable!
The head for this set is 789X better than the Yoda build. I also think that the poseability is better considering you can make him hold the knob or make him appear as though he’s using the force
Not sure about the pitch dark eyes, maybe baby Yodi is upset that he became stuck in a tree trunk while playing hide and seek. Thankyou stonewars for the direct comparison against Yodi, shows how great Yodi's face and coat texture are.
@ambr:
Well, between Babylon 5 and Into the Badlands, it's pretty clear that if someone's eyes just suddenly turn solid black, it's usually a great time to be someplace far away.
I adore this.
Ah yes I too wish to acquire a small gremlin
