New kids magazine with cover-mounted polybag
Posted by Huw,LEGO magazines for kids with a cover mounted set continue to be very popular and this year nine different titles have been published in the UK, some monthly, some less frequently.
A few months ago, Egmont launched a new one in Poland and German-speaking countries called LEGO Explorer. What differentiates it from the others is that instead of the cover mounted set being foil-packed (by a 3rd party under licence) it's a proper polybag, which makes them far more desirable and collectable.
The sets, which you can see after the break, are fairly substantial because they don't contain minifigures. The one on this month's issue is particularly interesting. Just what is it that's being flung from the catapult? :-)
Unfortunately it's not yet available in the UK and there's no word on if or when it will be although we have reached out to Egmont to try to find out.
Thanks to Clonerus for the images.

Available in Czech Republic as well...
Lol, LEGO Castle is back!
What a "sh*tty" catapult ;-)
Haha...that is a great little polybag. The polybag collectors outside those distribution areas may feel like using that catapult on their favourite toy company when they learn about this!
The Magazines aren't bad either, unlike the ones published by Blue Ocean, Explorer provides building technique inspirations for kids. Also, Explorer is STEM-themed. Already thought about a subscription.
price is €4,50 in Germany.
That’s poop on a frying pan
What an unusual catapult. Either a nice Chocolate Muffin, with marmalade drizzle to follow, or a pile of dung on fire. Either way not the standard item. Want one mind.
The catapult shoots flaming poop? Lol
Fetchez la (merde de la) vache!
Is 11938 Huwbot's sibling?

Pretty simple, you povide your soldiers with spicy supper the evening before.

"And your mother is a 'amstère!"
I mean, it's historically accurate - burning Pitch and sewage were catapulted into the throng of invading armies
:D
Hey kids, it's a catapult flinging burning poop at invaders!
no chance of seeing these in the US. wonder how many of these i can build with parts on hand? and winging the instructions, too
We got the Swedish one with the robot model about a month ago. :)
I've seen 3 different versions of this magazine one had the castle polybag, one was a squid, the other a service robot:
But not bad to keep the kids busy!!
I never thought I’d see that accurate of a siege method in a LEGO set. What’s next? Dismembered heads!?!?

just bear in mind around subscriptions, that most subscriptions like this don't come with the "toy/gift" on the front i.e. you just get the magazine.
This is common in the UK, don't know for other areas;
The only way in the UK to get in effect a subscription where you're guaranteed the toy/gift is to order via your newsagent who can normally order it in for you - but then you're looking at full cover price per issue.. the reason subscriptions are a lot cheaper by post is because you don't get the included stuff
Out of all the pieces small enough to fit in a frying pan...
Another magazine not available in the US :'(

Depends. We have got a subscription for the Friends magazine by Blue Ocean and it always comes with the set/gift.

Don't forget, corpses of plague victims were valid ammo, too!

Denmark got the first issue in July. We currently have the issue 2 which has the squid.
Man, there’s gonna be a record number of likes because of that castle...
There is quite a bit of competition for Lego magazines for a new one to make an impact that is not apparently available in English, even though back in June articles such as https://www.inpublishing.co.uk/articles/egmont-to-launch-new-lego-magazine-14574 said it would launch in UK but there is no mention on https://www.egmont.co.uk/magazines/
As for the micro models there are really well established mags such as Lego star-wars with previous micro models listed at https://brickset.com/sets/theme-star-wars/subtheme-Magazine-Gift/page-3
I'm not sure whether a polybag or silver bag makes that much difference to kids who actually want to build the object, or star wars collectors.
I need that octopus!
Are those dark grey mixel socket joints on the robot? They must be, but those are colour locked to light grey, and a magazine polybag of all places doesn't seem like the time to change that.
Sadly we never see these magazines in the US, at least not where I live.

I think they're medium stone grey. Edit: I just checked the instructions and parts list; they are indeed medium stone grey.

Omgosh they have this in Sweden too? That's so cool!
Love that squid.
To quote Jeremy Clarkson:
"A lot of poo shot out there!"

You are right, it's a photo effect. Sockets are lbgrey and plates above are white.
I live in the US and my 5 year old would love this. Any advice or hacks someone knows of that wouldn't be outrageously pricey to get this to California? Are there other kid-targeted magazines that are similar and available in the US? I spent a bit searching Google and Amazon without much success. Any help would be appreciated. Lego Life is fun and free and that's great... but I'd subscribe to something like this for the little ones, particularly in these COVID times (schools are still closed here) and particularly with an educational vs. purely promotional theme.
I wonder if we'll ever get an English-language equivalent? The builds that come with this magazine are a lot better than the small, half-baked builds in foil packs (and in many cases, just a minifig) than we get in the overpriced imported magazines which sometimes are LEGO-themed that I do see in supermarkets here in the States. The octopus and robot are quite good. Though, the castle is a little small.
I kinda have the same concerns about what the catapult is launching.
Me wants the castle

Eh. Polybags aren’t really of the highest quality. Pass.

Given that Immediate reportedly canned two Lego mags recently, it’ll be interesting to see if there’s enough of a market in this COVID world. (It’d be a shame if there wasn’t. Beyond The Beano and The Phoenix, the Lego mags are about the only good purchase for my kid. At least the plastic on the front is durable. And although the stories aren’t exactly great, and need some serious work regarding gender issues, they are at least tolerable and reasonably entertaining for the nipper.)

Maybe a younger sister, and that’s where his love of Clickits started?
All jokes about the catapult's payload aside, that is a neat little mini-castle.
