Confirmed VIP availability in US.

By in United States,

Just ordered one myself. That Yoda Saber GWP was too good to pass up.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I just got mine, but didn't get the Monkey Kid Delivery Bike included. Not really concerned since it isn't a theme I'm going to collect anyway. I was also still able to get Frankenstein's Monster too!

Gravatar
By in United States,

US order confirmed but not Monkey Kid promo, I believe this is in store only

EDIT: No I was thinking of the cat, Monkey Kid is just not available at this time for US

By in Hungary,

Its showing "VIP Early Access to the exclusive new Mos Eisley Cantina™ starts 17/09." for Australia still...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is buying 75290 Mos Eisley Cantina the only way to actually get 5006290 Yoda's Lightsaber?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Is it still $530 AUD ..... just checking ??

Gravatar
By in United States,

Just ordered mine.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Nope, still not available in Australia

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Picked mine up. With the speed they've been shipping things out though, I don't expect to see it until Oct 1, sadly. First world problems...

It says get it by buying the cantina and it looks like that's the only way. I just added the star destroyer to my cart and the lightsaber didn't get added

Gravatar

Looks like the GWP is gone in UK ?? if that’s the case I’ll wait till a double Vip promo on this set ...

Yodas lightsaber sold out already - wtf

No light saber in uk when i added it, not that im getting but interested to see how its often a bit iffy ordering on lego for gwp etc.

Gravatar

Calm down, class.

There was another article up earlier, in the comments of which someone mentioned that the lightsabre was out of stock in Europe, but that they'd called customer services who'd confirmed that more stock of the GWP would be in "soon".

By in Ireland,

Just on the UK and Ireland sites and just getting the monkey bike, lightsaber gone!
Think will wait.......

Gravatar
By in United States,

That set looks really really nice. But that price? Not so much.

Gravatar
By in United States,

When I add 75920 to my cart, it doesn't add 5006290 in the U.S. Yes, I made sure I'm logged in since it's supposed to be VIP only.

Is it really gone already?

Gravatar

Seems like it might be. The same thing is happening for me. If the GWP is out of stock, I'll just wait to get this another time then.

Ah damn, ridiculous that the lightsaber stock couldn't even last for an entire day... Talking about rubbish preparation....

Maybe it'll come back in stock and otherwise I'll wait for triple force friday to purchase the mos eisley set.

Gravatar

Checked at midnight but it was still not for sale. Just got up and looks like the lightsaber is out of stock here in Canada. Too bad. Guess I will wait for another deal.

I'm in the same boat. Stayed up last night to get it with GWP. Turned out it'd come out later this morning. Wake up and GWP is gone :(

Gravatar
By in United States,

Same, what a shame. They must have made 8 of the Yoda lightsabers for the entire planet.

Gravatar
By in United States,

All advertising for 5006290 seems to have been pulled from the online storefront here in the U.S. now as well.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Well, went surprisingly smoothly for me here in Australia. 20 minutes and there's still stock, that shouldnt be surprising but unfortunately it is.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I guess I'll wait to get this one then. There's not reason to get it right now if there's no GWP available anymore.

Gravatar
By in Finland,

Already on ebay and bricklink. Price from 80-120€?????????

Gravatar
By in United States,

Seems to me that the GWP was to get many to move on purchasing early who might not have because of sticker shock.

That’s gonna happen when you drop Daigon Alley and this right around the same time. It’s like trying to date two people but they both show up for a date. One realizes that “Hey...you treat me way better than you treat them.”

Unlikely to be a triple force Friday for quite a while as no new movies to be released at the mo :-/

Looks like it lasted about 1 hour for Aus/NZ, the lightsaber isn't advertised on the website anymore. Good thing I got mine ordered as soon as it went live.

Gravatar

So I bought mine while the promotion was still up but nothing got added to my cart. Curious to see what LEGO Customer Service tells me.

Can't believe the lightsaber is gone already. Did they only make a few hundred of them? They were gone in the U.S. in under an hour. I was on at 8:55 EST and got one, but I had family that was on at 9:40 EST and they were sold out.

Gravatar

Come on Lego, I have been VIP member forever and I can not even place an order on the set the first day as it is already out of stock! So I have to wait until October 1st, will it be in stock then? Will I get access to the bonus light saber?

This is a mess and disheartening!

Just yesterday we received our package of two 501st sets and only one was in the box! Lego says they are out, so no point in them placing a new order for us. Sure, they gave us money back and some VIP points, but opening a box, that was backordered, and then to only have 1 of 2 sets was WAY DISAPPOINTING!!! Now today on top of that...

I’m disappointed and baffled why Lego doesn’t allow infinite backorders when a new set like this is released and quickly sells out. I’d be nice if they could get their sh^t together and allow more pre-orders to gauge the sets interest instead of “early” VIP access with clearly not enough inventory.

This argument is silly.

If getting Mos Eisley was dependent on also getting the GWP...did you really want Mos Eisley at all? Might as well save yourself the $350 and pay the aftermarket price for the saber if it really is that important to you.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I'm not that interested in the lightsaber. A polybag with an exclusive cantina patron would have been much more enticing. I think I'll wait for double VIP points or May the 4th.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

available in Australia on 17th too.. still plenty of stock GWP available. unlike the Diagon Alley which sold out pretty quick.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Was unable to get one this morning in Canada. Not very happy these days with these instant sell outs. Even GWPs that are suppose to run for a week sell out in just a few hours. Is Lego corporate really this oblivious to supply and demand forecasting?

Gravatar

Just picked up a set from the brick and mortar store in Yorkdale Mall, Toronto, Canada.

They had tons of the free gift with purchase Yoda's lightsaber available.

Gravatar

Picked up mine from my local Lego store.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Seems like they sent a bunch to the stores. Retail got hit really hard here and figured I'd try to show the Lego store some love and maybe keep the workers employed. Two people ahead of me, got my cantina and lightsaber and was out in 10 minutes. Now I need to figure out where to put it once I start building.

Gravatar
By in United States,

What a shame that day one purchase on Lego.com has always been stressful.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I was one of the many that happened to put an order in about an hour after launch and the GWP wasn't added on checkout. The promo page was as others mentioned available to VIP members upon sign-in (which I did). Of course LEGO puts the order quickly into "In Warehouse" status so that a person can't cancel the order.

Seems a bit deceptive on LEGO's part to advertise heavily a GWP promo and not even be able to support it, especially a SW one. Yes, "while supplies last" and all that rubbish but an hour past launch and gone, really? First world problems I know.

Normally I think "never attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence." However, after the Xth time seeing this happen (most recently with the piano), the simplest answer is: artificial scarcity, i.e. this is intentional. I no longer believe "we didn't know it would sell that quickly."

Now why is it intentional? Harder to say, but the basic choices are: "we could make more, but we won't in order to drive up interest" or "we couldn't make enough, but we will sell what we have right now." I am not aware of any reason why this set needed to be released now, e.g. a timed media tie-in, instead of waiting for enough supply to last for a while.

Dear LEGO Community:
I am writing to share my experience. While I was able to successfully purchase the Cantina I was NOT able to secure the Yoda Lightsaber gift with purchase, 1 hour into the online sale via USA Shop at Home.
Clearly, LEGO had less than 100-300 of these available to VIPs. While offers can legally be valid until fully redeemed, in the USA, it is illegal to have a promo where qualities are THIS limited. States vary on what the % of product vs. premium with purchase is.
To add insult, to injury, the VIP email announcing the set with promo was sent/received at 9:24AM EST. This was clearly 8 hours after they had already been sold out. This is criminal, in my home state of Massachusetts. I intend to take legal action via The State Attorney General’s Office.
Anyone else experience something like this? Anyone else willing to take action? I hate to do this, as LEGO, as a company, as a brand...typically offers outstanding customer support (in this case, they could not be reached via phone, chat and email says wait 5-9 days for response). Just not sure what other recourse to take.
Cheers,
Ron
BTW: I know my location says Singapore... I also live in Massachusetts, working/residing in both locations. Typically, buying most of my LEGO products for USA... Sometimes buying via a certified shop or local mom and pops in Singapore where it’s 25% more than USA.

Boo! Another botched Star Wars VIP release. Really takes the wind out of the sails to miss out. Again. Not that the black VIP amounted to much of anything, I have yet to (and may never) buy the Falcon. I will eventually buy the Cantina, as even my wife wants it, but if my son, who was stoked for the Yoda lightsaber, is willing to wait, I will not buy this until it’s $300 or less. Meh.

A - VIP early releases start at 9 AM EST, so 24 minutes before the VIP email. The lightsaber was still in stock at 10 AM EST.

B - The North American supply of lightsaber hilts was depleted in a little over an hour. By your math, Lego sold fewer than 5 copies per minute in that time at the high estimate, and "less than 100" would mean fewer than 2 Mos Eisleys sold per minute.

More than 15,000 copies of 75192 sold in about an hour on its launch day.

It is not illegal to ONLY have HUNDREDS of a promotional item, and there's no doubt there are thousands of these. LEGO gave away 750 copies of 5004590 Bat-Pod to VIPs in North America who bought DC sets in June 2015. Europe had 250 for a worldwide total of 1,000. (You could also enter by sending a daily email--that's how I won mine.)

Good luck with the Attorney General.

I agree with most of point B. However the lightsaber wasn’t in stock at 10 EST. I was online when the sale went live this morning at 8:55 EST(yes it started 5 min early). I had family that attempted to purchase at approximately 9:40 EST and it was already gone. So I’d say it only lasted for somewhere between 30-45 min.

By in United Kingdom,

Wowsa! Far to many Augustus Gloope's and Violet Beauregardes today, we should all try to be a little more like Charlie. The Cantini will be back in stock, and maybe the GWP will too, if not get one on the aftermarket if you really really want it.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

My Cantina was just delivered a minute ago, including Yoda's Lightsaber (in a slightly damaged box) and the Monkey Kid polybag. Just 27 hours between Lego.com online order and delivery: that's pretty amazing in my opinion! Here in the Netherlands Lego delivery is done by DPD, thank goodness.

I remember the days when 'delivery' was in the hands of DHL. Results on my end: one stolen 75192 Millennium Falcon(!), two(!) stolen 75222 Cloud City sets (the second one already a replacement shipment for the first one) and one stolen 75243 Slave I set (+ the 40333 GWP), and I might be forgetting one or two other sets which DHL failed to deliver at all. I'm pretty sure my experiences helped Lego decide to dump DHL and to get a dependable delivery service.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It takes Lego several hours to send out all the promo emails, and I for one received mine after the GWP had already been removed from the site. It may be a minor thing in the grand scheme of things, but it is undeniably false advertising. And it's not the first time. I think it's quite reasonable to find this unacceptable.

I agree with the bulk of this post. A very similar position exists under Australian competition and consumer law. The main problem that Lego is going to face is in relation to the promotional aspect of the gwp - by its nature, it’s intended to (at least partially) induce VIP members to purchase the Cantina as soon as it is released by offering a ‘freebie’. By not having a sufficient number of those items available to last a couple of hours, let alone even a reasonable time during the VIP only purchase period, it does seem to fall on the misleading and deceptive radar. If this was to come before the relevant Australian regulator, it is certainly possible that they would take a dim view on this type of marketing behaviour. This isn’t about people throwing their toys out of the pram - it’s about proper corporate behaviour and this seems to fall a long way short of where it should be for a company like Lego.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I suspect 5006290 will be available again with the general public release and that only a relatively smaller amount were available for the VIP release. At least that would hopefully be the case.

I did notice there are several up on eBay already.

I ordered Yesterday as well at 9:00 am central time and am still showing “In warehouse” status. Also did not get lightsaber GWP added to order. Already sent customer service email regarding this. As of now, no reply.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I was lucky enough to get an order in yesterday morning, but I missed the GWP, like so many of us did. I called Lego customer service, sat on hold for an hour and a quarter, and when I finally got in touch with an agent I asked if there was a different GWP that I could get instead and he said yes. He was able to offer me one of the following:

Battle for endor GWP 40362
Death Star II GWP 40407
Star Wars anniversary pod ("Darth Vader pod") 5005376
$10 in VIP points

So, I would encourage all of you to do the same! Maybe wait a couple days if you don't have an job where you can still work while being on hold (LOL), but he was super friendly and very helpful. None of those GWP's are quite as cool as the lightsaber, and certainly none of them command the same after-market value but it's better than a swift kick in the pants, as my dad used to say. My cantina set is still sitting in warehouse as well, for how long who knows.

I considered sending an email as well, but the site said "emails will be replied to within 5-9 business days" and I didn't want to wait that long! The customer service folks at Lego are busy these days...

Gravatar

I must have gotten very lucky with this order. Went online at 9am yesterday and got the saber gwp added to my cart no problem. Very smooth process. Highly doubt it, don't you think that would be a kind of a slap in the face to everyone who missed out? Lego would have hundreds of people (me included) demanding they send it for free. The saber wasn't that important to me so I bought the Cantina anyway, but there is no way I would pay for a previous promo item that was gone before I even got the VIP email advertising it!

It is more the trade off netwerk paying a full price at lego and want for the discounts. The GWP is in de additional cost of buying at LEGO.

By in United States,

@MVives:
When you compare it to other themes, they clearly don't have a good handle on what will sell and what won't. The late store manager from my local LEGO Store had to practically beg them to send him a dozen copies of the UCS MF2, and they refused to go any higher. He had over 20 people show up to get in line before the doors had even opened. And then you've got Hidden Side, which...kinda fizzled. If they had the ability to perfectly predict demand, they would have scuttled the stuff that nobody is interested in and put more effort into things that would be in demand.
