75318 The Child officially revealed
Posted by Huw,
Here's the press release for the next Star Wars large scale buildable figure:
75318 The Child, 1073 pieces
£69.99 / $79.99 / €79.99
Pre-orders at LEGO.com start today, will ship on 30th October.
Today, the LEGO Group reveals its latest construction set featuring the beloved character from the Lucasfilm series Star Wars: The Mandalorian. The LEGO Star Wars The Child construction set is inspired by the small-in-size but powerful-in-charisma character, the Child (or Baby Yoda as fans have affectionately dubbed the character), from the series. The building set will be available globally from October 30th, with pre-orders starting today as part of the Mando Mondays program announcement from Disney and Lucasfilm.
Measuring just under 20cm (7.8 inches) in height, builders can experience the fun of building a set inspired by one of their favourite The Mandalorian stars in 1,073 pieces. Designed for fans aged 10 and over, builders can make the model their own. With a poseable head, movable ears and an adjustable mouth, fans can choose from a range of the Child’s famous expressions when putting their finished model on display.
“When I received the challenge to create a LEGO brick-built version of the Child, I knew that I had to get it just right” says Michael Lee Stockwell, Design Manager, LEGO Star Wars. “The goal was to capture the charm, and above all, the cuteness of the character, so we worked meticulously, choosing and placing each and every brick. We even included authentic details like the gearstick knob – a favourite toy of the Child as seen in the series.”
The construction set comes with an information plaque, which includes the Child’s height and age, and a LEGO Star Wars Minifigure of the Child to complete a charming display.
75318 LEGO Star Wars The Child construction set will be available for pre-order from 21st September and then globally from 30th October, directly via LEGO.com, LEGO Stores and other retailers.
Pleas refrain from incorrectly calling it 'Baby Yoda' in the comments :-)

It looks way better here than the initial images did.
Looking forward to picking up Ba- The Child,
My wife's just made a start on 75255 Yoda and suggested this would make a perfect accompaniment to this.
I'm not going to disagree - she's always right!
Damn I saw this a while ago
This is too soon, only last year we got the big Yoda, why this one so soon afterwards.
I can't wait to get The Child, that look likes Yoda, but a baby. ;)
I think they've nailed it with this one. The printed eyes are fantastic and really sell the cuteness of the model.
I am going to be getting this one. I got BB8 back when this series started, and this is the best one since it, maybe even the best one of them all.
i might have to if my kids keep losing the child that came with the razor crest...
The eyes look so much better here than on the big Yoda sculpture they did last year. The rest of it is quite similar to that set, just smaller, but it just seems better on the whole. Very cute! $80 is easier to stomach than $130 but I still would like to see the minifig version come in an inexpensive set considering it's just two small, pretty simple pieces
Too bad he doesn’t have the bubble.

Maybe because Season 1 of The Mandalorian was a huge hit and Season 2 drops in just over a month? No, that can't be the reason.
Nice to see the Razor Crest is mentioned on the information plaque and not the The Mandalorian™ Bounty Hunter Transport!
When ever I see this I think would it have been better with a smooth finish in the cloth top.. exposed studs looks too off for me.
@huw also for the “Will you be buying this set” survey at the start of the article, can a new option be added; Day One for a decent GWP, if not I’ll wait.
Very nice indeed. I was sure this was another 18+ set - but it's actually 10+!?
What’s wrong with calling it baby yoda? It’s a baby and it looks like Yoda?? The child is a really boring name and inaccurate given he’s a baby. Child implies any age between 3-12 and baby Yoda far more resembles an infant between 0-2.
At under 20cm tall, this is much smaller than I was expecting. Making it the same size as Yoda would've made it near-lifesize and more appealing.

Some arbitrary nonsense here, but, more importantly, how do we classify a child who's 50 years old...?
Can't get past the mouth... So close, but so far.

I’m mostly just annoyed at the anti-‘baby Yoda’ nickname attitude, but I feel as if ‘the child’ isn’t too fitting due to him being more characteristically baby-ish.
I genuinely don’t know how to feel about this. I think they captured the inherent cuteness as well as is possible with LEGO, which is really impressive... but to me, it still isn’t sufficiently cute. Maybe simultaneously striving for cuteness, organic shapes, and modest scale exposes an unfortunate limit of the medium (and one of the only limits, to be sure).
I’m glad this set exists though, and I’m excited for everyone who will love it! :)
Haven’t got d+ yet, but want this one - now if only LEGO.com would change from 30/10 to preorder mode I can buy it before have time to reconsider....
I’m loving any and everything The Child these days, but if I have to choose, I’m going with the Razor Crest so I can get the minifig over this mass of chunkiness. Would also just really love to have the “incredibly adorable creature that looks a lot like a baby Yoda would look if there were an infant specimen of the species that Yoda is“ in an affordable set!
Have to admit that studs out looks a bit off for me too. Maybe tile it over? Then we'd have a fat Baby Yo... er, Child :) Baby's are often fat right?

A baby is a child, i.e. not an adult. We don't know if The Child is actually a child of his (or her?) species.
Sad, pre-order is not available in my country.

Baby Yoda is confirmed to be Male
Great, now we have to preorder LEGO? What happens if there is a GWP when this comes out? Will the preorders be first in line for the GWP? Will they receive a GWP at all?
Also, what if the number of preorders exceed LEGO’s capacity to deliver this set on time?
@ElementalAvenger82
A "man-child" lol.
I had to pre-order this. I'm defenseless when it comes to baby Yoda merch.
So cute !
It's hideous just like his older version
This was leaked a while ago, so...
Vu, Déjà!
Love it anyway, I do. My greatest weakness, The Child merch is!
Anybody know when Lego are doing Double VIP points again?
Not a fan of all the studs. Looks like a squat tree stump with a head.

So in a way a description also befitting of many AFOLs... :-)
About the set, it looks nice and better than Yoda imho, especially the eyes. Still probably won't get it as I haven't even seen the series yet.
Lol it really looks like a tree stump without the head, maybe I could use one for my Lego City. I can probably just bricklink brown bricks for much less $ though haha
