Wicked Brick minifigure wall mounts

Posted by ,

There are numerous products on the market for displaying minifigures, including display cases and picture frames, many of which we've reviewed here in the past.

Wicked Brick now offers another option: wall mounts. They provide a cost effective and practical solution, particularly if you want to access your minifigs easily.

It's a modular system manufactured from 5mm Perspex sheet. First, you decide how many rows you want to display, then select the appropriate back plate, shown here on the left. They are available with 1 to 6 slots, at prices ranging from £3.95 for 1 slot to £6.95 for 6.

You'll then need a shelf for each slot which, again, are available in a range of lengths, from 2 minifigures (£2.95) to 16 (£6.49).

The two parts are held together by friction with the aid of a clear plastic stem which is included with the shelf. They fit together very securely and won't come apart accidentally.

The shelves have genuine LEGO 1x1 round plates inserted into them, upon which the minifigures are affixed. They are angled towards the centre slightly which enhances the display.

The setup below costs £10.93. The back plates are supplied with 3M Command strips for affixing them to the wall without the need to drill holes and make a mess.

Here's a 6-tier back plate with shelves from 6 to 16 minifigures length.

Avatar on the top, original series Batman in the middle and Pirates of the Caribbean at the bottom.

This is another high quality and practical display solution from Wicked Brick. They have the advantage over display cases that there's nothing between you and your figures so you can handle and admire them more easily, but the disadvantage of course is that there's nothing to stop them getting dusty.

You can view the range of wall mounts at the Wicked Brick website. This weekend you'll receive a small minifig display case free with purchases over £35.

Thanks to Wicked Brick for providing the items for this review. All expressed opinions are my own.

Oh WOW, these are nice.

I've never really been that sold on the display cases idea, because they seem like they make for a bland-looking display with a lot of empty background space; but the set-up here looks like everything I'd want from a minifigure display. Enough room to vary up the minifigure poses as desired, effective use of space without them looking too crowded together, professional design, easy access to the figures... and the slight angling of the studs for better display is just the cherry on top, from my perspective.

Thus far, I hadn't been convinced to buy any display solutions for my Lego. Not quite guaranteeing anything yet, but I think that might have just changed xD

I like the studs built into the floor and saves using plates. The multi-level is impressive, assuming the sticky back can take the weight. There are also mini-fig display cases available to keep the dust away, but then seem to only be able to have one level at a time when wall mounted.

I was just looking at these yesterday, this review would be what pushes me over to buying them, except I ordered the Millennium Falcon display and the idea of paying shipping for two separate orders is not appealing.

I actually quite like the look of these, though I do think one of the main problems especially for large collections is lots of dust collecting on it.
On one hand I personally really like having the minifigures out and on an open shelf without glass in front of it, but I think the benefits of not having to dust a lot are important.

Very attractive... but the dust. The DUST

Ooh, this certainly helps to compensate for what's sometimes an inconvenience of display cases (i.e. making it harder to see the minifigures from all sides or take them down to appreciate their detail from more angles). Plus, it seems like it'd be a bit better than many other display solutions at leaving room for figs with really tall, wide, or deep proportions (e.g. ones with large wings/jetpacks, snake tails, or elongated torsos)

I don't feel like I'd be too keen on buying these wall mounts specifically, but they do give me some more ideas for what I ought to strive for in a minifigure display stand if I ever get around to either buying or MOCing one!

Curious how Big Figs integrate into the display.

I have a wall of these with over 300 Minifig’s on it. They really do work well

Very nice. I wish the backplate was done in clear though, that way the shelves would appear to be floating.

2/3 of my fridge is covered in minifigs. I figured out long ago that if you chain the magnet bricks together, they don't wander around as much. Or just fall off when you shut the door.

My Batman-related minifigs are probably the largest chunk of my collection, and I need to be able to take many of them to shows about once a month. That and the fact that my Batman minifig collection approaches 400 means it's too much trouble to pack them up for every show, and too expensive to display them loose without a large table handy.

Also, with the studs being incorporated into the shelves in that manner, it puts a hard limit on how many minifigs you can display per shelf, forcing you to buy more rather than just rearranging them to fit another minifig in.

Hideous. My grandma used to have something like this full of decorated thimbles. Dust magnet

If I could go to a store and buy these I definitely would, but shipping from UK to Canada more than doubles the cost, so...nope.

I love these, but I can imagine them picking up some dust.

Not bad though.

^^They're from the Toy Story 3 sets. Woody and Jessie were 100% Chinese production, as was everything above the shoulders on Buzz (armor, wings, half-canopy, head), the heads on both the claw alien and Stinky Pete, and the torso, armor, and head on Zurg. The bodies on Buzz, the claw alien, and Stinky Pete, as well as the 2x2x3 "castle slope" used for Zurg's skirt all probably came from Europe. The armor, half, canopy, and wings on Buzz, and the claw alien's head, are the only parts from these specific minifigs that reappeared in the first wave of Disney CMF, and again in the Toy Story 4 sets. Zurg and Stinky Pete were one-and-done characters, they downsized Woody and Jessie to use normal torso and leg assemblies, and the sculpted heads on Buzz, Woody, and Jessie were replaced with standard minifig heads. Woody and Jessie also got removable hair/hat combos.

In the last picture, the minifigs are from the short-lived Avatar theme, the original Batman theme (2006-2008), and the Pirates of the Caribbean sets that came out when the fourth movie was released (I don't see anything from PotC5). Except for a few of the fishy pirate parts, these should have all been European production. Davy Jones' torso with the crab claw, maybe his tentacle "beard", Hadras' conch shell, and Maccus' hammerhead cephalofoil all may have come from China.

Now, the important question is why all of these minifigs have their hands flipped upside down.

The Toy Story minifigs are all characters from Toy Story 2. Although some of them were also in Toy Story 3.

@kwickbrick:
True, Buzz and Woody have been in every Toy Story film and short. I know the claw aliens have been in all four films, but I can't say for sure if they've been in any of the shorts. Jessie has been in all but the first film. Stinky Pete only appeared in the second film. Zurg is featured in the second film, but gets' mentioned a couple times in the first, and has a cameo appearance in the third. There was also a more traditional animated series that included Buzz, Zurg, and the claw aliens. However, the only two times they've released sets have been when Toy Story 3 and Toy Story 4 released. The second batch focused exclusively on the latest film (with the possible exception of 10766), but, as was the case with PotC4, the Toy Story 3 batch included sets based on key moments from the preceding films as well. Here's what I can match up:

Toy Story: 7590, and probably 7595.
Toy Story 2: 7594, & 7598.
Toy Story 3: 7596, 7597, 7599, & 7789.
Toy Story 4: 10767, 10768, 10769, 10770, & 10771.
Undetermined: 30070, 30071, 30072, 30073, 7591, 7592, 7593 and 10766.

For the sets I matched up to a specific movie, the entire set matches up to a scene in only one movie that was released before or around the time the set came out, or there's some aspect of the set (the stretcher in Army Men on Patrol) that only matches a scene in one movie. For the rest, either the set matches scenes from more than one movie, or none at all.

The irony of putting Toy Story minifigs on display, given the theme of Toy Story 2.

@Padmewan:
No, but it's okay. They're not entombed in plastic, so they're still free to run around and do their own thing during their "off" hours. How they get back up to those high shelves when the door starts to open, on the other hand...

Brilliant new perspective on our 'cool' collections there ??

And on that note: Buzz Lightyear of Star Command Lego sets, when? xD

I know... I know Pixar prefers to disown that series nowadays (John Lasseter apparently hated it), but it's legitimately one of my old favourites. It's probably unlikely to ever get officially acknowledged again by anyone, but I would nonetheless love to see some of its other main characters realised in Lego form to complement the Star Command Spaceship set.
