The Brickset holiday gift guide 2020

Posted by ,

Every November since 2012, we have published our holiday gift guide, in which Brickset staff pick sets from different price ranges that would make great gifts, or treats for yourself during the holiday period.

We're going to do it again this year, but with a difference: we want YOU to write it!

This is how it's going to work. Every day from tomorrow until the end of November we're going to publish an article written by you, our members, in which you choose a set released this year and tell us who it would be a good gift for, and why. We'll cover a different price range every week, starting with under $25.

The timetable, then, with links to lists of qualifying sets, is:

We're really hoping we'll have enough articles submitted, particularly during the first week, and also that perhaps you'll select sets to write about that we, and maybe others too, have overlooked.

There's no need to take photos (although you can if you wish), and we're not looking for full reviews: 200 words or so will suffice.

So, please get typing and send your submissions to [email protected]. Please state which price range you're writing about in the title and also include your Brickset username.

Oh, and I almost forgot: everyone who has an article published will be entered into a draw to win one of three Brickset goody-bags, including a much-coveted Brickset minifig!

Thank you!

By in Australia,

Just emailed in a submission for the under $25 category, can't wait to see what other people put forward. This is such a great idea Huw, will there still be a few submissions from Brickset Staff? I enjoy y'alls opinion too.

@Huw, What happens if you receive two or more submissions for the same set?

Is it the first you receive that gets published? Or the best? If the former, is there some way of knowing what’s already been taken? If the latter, that might encourage submissions for not-so-great sets in the hopes of being alone in writing about it.

I'll combine submissions for the same set. I don't want it to get too complicated!

By in United Kingdom,

Can i send a message with a nominated set for each of the categories or would I have to send 5 messages for each category.

Got 5 sets, one from each price range, which are great sets.

Many thanks :)

Hi! I just sent one in for the under $25 category, then realized the timetable says 2-8 November and got agitated (it's not yet 2 Nov), then checked the comment section here and all seems OK again. :)

US dollar prices are typically more consistent, without very many significant outliers which seemingly belong in one price bracket but are inexplicably expensive when compared with other countries.

Do we have to make a review of the set, or how do we make this article

No review, just write why you would recommend the set and some of the cool features and maybe what you like about the set in under 200 words. good luck!

@huw Does the set need to actually be released in 2020, but are still available?

It would be great to have reviews of Mario sets as they are specifically targeted at children. Unfortunately I can only review the starter set and the NES set. I’ve purchased two other sets, but of course am saving them to give to my son for the holidays.
