By in United States,

Are the yellow classic spacemen minifigures wearing clothes that clash with their skin tone, or are they just wearing helmets and jetpacks with a big tattoo on their chests?

By in Portugal,

So simple, yet so effective. That smile stood the test of time. As does the LEGO system. Bravo!

@HandPositions:
Someone once posted an image of a yellow Classic Spaceman sitting in a tattoo parlor chair with a censored bar over his bits. I believe his name starts with "J", but all I can think of right now is Josto because of Fargo S4.

Gen Z opinion: great set! Although I think the yellow classic spaceman is the weakest of the astronauts.

That is some probe!
“We’re tired of getting probed by aliens. Now it’s time for us to probe back!”

Or maybe he has a filter in his helmet that lets him disguise his true face color so that he can blend in

By in Australia,

Simple but cute.

And who doesn't love a good probe?

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

Where is he sending the probe? Titan? Uranus?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Such a cute little accompanying robot.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Awesome and also has a little robot assistant

By in Turkey,

I like Classic Space but I have to admit this set doesn't look that good. I like small vehicles like 886 and 889. They do little but they look better.

By in Australia,

Did this come from a meteorite that landed in the snow?

Robot looks cute!

By in United States,

"Space probe"...yeah that is a small mobile rocket launcher to fend off invaders (in this case Blacktron robots)! As a side note, I've always seen the Blacktron I minifigs more as hot-shot test pilot types rather than villains.

I wonder if it’s probed Uranus...

"Hey, yellow spaceman, watch where you're pointing that! Are you even dressed? I can't tell. Wait, how are you aiming that, your hands are not on the console! Does not compute! Wait, processing the situation, my databanks have concluded that rocket totally looks like a giant-"

Dick Grayson, Bruce Wayne's youthful ward in stately Wayne Manor, said "Holy gonads, Batman! That missile looks like a huge-"

"Woody! I must inform Star Command of this Unidentified Flying Object! It's headed toward Uranus!"

Perhaps . . . but when I was a kid, I so desperately wanted one that I painted one of my white spaceman minifigs yellow.

Let's just say my painting skills weren't great.

Put it in H.

How large does a probe need to be before it becomes a rocket? The spaceman would quickly loose his smile when he fired this probe and his buggy goes shooting backwards around the planet? Interesting that the brick with studs on 5 sides is so old, and not created just for sideways building. The droid only appeared in one other set 6807 which seemed a shame. Does anyone remember how much this set cost £3 or $5 seems about right?

....I wish my mind was still innocent. This somehow seems like he's overcompensating.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

31 parts....31! I think I played with this, exploring the galaxy, for years. Still do ;-) That is what I call value for money and play value. Suck it up Star Wars!

In my younger days we did prettend it was a tattoed chest. I always found the yellow space man weird.

By in United Kingdom,

I had this, but thought it was a US market exclusive. I went to America in 1986 and so may have been one of the lucky few in the UK to own one, pre ebay. It was great but the thing I always remember (even though it was very simple) is we lost the box and instructions in transit and it took about 10+ years for me to find a scan on the internet.

What a great set! CS spaceman with a cool little buggy, rocket and robot! I wasn’t into LEGO at the time but would have loved this one if I had been.

I double checked LEGO’s UK catalogues for the period and couldn’t find it. I think the UK offering at the time was the same as continental Europe’s. So it does indeed seem to have been a US or NA exclusive. Does anyone know differently?

By in United States,

Love it! This is one of the earliest space sets I can remember getting as a little kid. Fun little set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Had 2 as a kid. I miss little sets like this.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

It wasn't available in Germany either. Probably a US exclusive indeed.

In 1986 this would have been around £1.25 or £1.50 - unfortunately I remember that far back.....

By in Venezuela,

amazing how a set's name can generate such colourful jokes...
that said, the all-black droid reminds me of a small xenomorph of sorts. :P

Eric Cartman.

@Nordbart:
He's the Space Emperor! He just got new clothes! It all makes sense now...

I do so love those Classic Space droids.

@ambr :
There were a _lot_ of different brick-built robot designs over the years. This single variant may have only showed up in two sets, but pretty much every Space theme had robots of some type in them.
