Friends Advent Calendar - Day 2

Posted by ,

Yesterday we got to meet the only Friend we'll have in the calendar. Obviously dressed in pajamas she's not going to be going outside in the winter wonderland mentioned as one of the themes for these builds.

In fact, as was pointed out yesterday, the bedroom part of the placemat is rather small, so I wonder just how many we'll get. Let's see if Day 2 brings us something from Emma's room, or one of the other themes.

I'd say this is definitely something from Emma's bedroom - a small table, with a mug, a cookie and a checklist - perhaps of the people for whom Emma needs to get presents. The build has the checklist on top of the table but I thought I'd give it a better view in the picture, as this checklist is new to this set.

I feel like I've seen the writing on the checklist before on another tile, or perhaps a sticker, but wasn't able to find that during a quick search of the database. I learned some time ago during a presentation made by a Friends designer at a convention that this writing is a list of their (Friends designers) names, made somewhat illegible. It looks like the top two lines could be "Ricardo" and "Ola" - and those are two Friends designers - so this listing might be true for this piece as well.

There's also a lipstick provided - is that supposed to be a pen? It's an odd thing to write with. In any event, it's the only spare provided for this build, which clocks in at eight pieces, including the spare.

It's not necessarily a holiday build and it's not a large build, but it's suitable enough, and there is purple in it. Of course, I would expect most items in Emma's bedroom to have purple. We may have a purple theme this year after all.

Is that a lipstick? It DOES look more like a pen to me.

could also be for santa workshop? as a list of naughty and nice?

also it looks way more like pen than lipstick... I would never called it a lipstick myself X"D

Yeah that's a pen. Obviously because it's so large it's probably difficult to write neatly so that's why you can't read the handwriting.

Yeah, I'm also going to say that, I thought it was a Friends-Lego version of a ballpoint pen. That was my first thought, when I saw the photo.

Although I like the idea that it's a Bond-esque exploding pen gadget. As they say at Christmas time, you better watch out.

Emma has terrible handwriting. I guess that's inevitable when you don't have fingers

Mine had an extra cookie as well as an extra pen. And it occurs to me that you could interpret this model as milk and a cookie for Santa. Although what a list of names would be doing there I don't know.

Extra cookie and pen for me as well (as expected).

Wow, I wasn't aware Lego had made a Pen element. I remember TBBT was using the lipstik element as a pen. Glad to know about the Pen will have to track some down

Whoa I've never seen the pen piece before

Why would a pen be an odd thing to write with?

That looks like a pen to me, as it has a clip that pens tend to have. I'm very surprised that there's only one Friend in the entire calendar this year.

The lipstick piece was introduced in 2012. It has a flange in the center. On one side is the lipstick itself, with a beveled tip, formed in rubber. On the other side is the case, formed in hard plastic with a rubber core that shows on the flat end.

The pen piece gets a little trickier. There are two very different pens. One is a single-color design that's included as part of the Friends medical accessory pack from 2012. The other is a dual-molded design has a body in one color, including a clip on one side, and a tip and "cap" in a second color. There are currently two variations, both from 2018. This is the rarer color, coming in three other sets. The more common color is Dark-Purple with a Light-Aqua body, which comes in eight sets.

Got only an extra cookie and no extra pen...
But I agree that it could be milk & cookie for Santa. Instead of a “list” (although) it does look like that, it could be a letter to Santa to go with the snack for him.

"It is a hit list and the pen is a James Bond style grenade pen. Three clicks to arm, three to disarm.

I just learned yesterday that the Arecibo Observatory which was featured in Goldeneye collapsed 2 days ago. As an astronomy enthusiast and someone who grew up on Goldeneye on N64, it makes me sad. I believe Sean Bean was not hurt.

What a cool element. Is the pen new?

I thought of a letter, too, but isn't it a little late for that?

@MrJackson:
I spotted that, too, but knew it was coming. I'd already read previously that when one of the cables that held the platform up snapped, they determined that it was no longer safe to attempt to repair it. The remaining two cables were insufficient to carry the weight, so it was really just a matter of time before another one gave way. After that, gravity takes over.

Hopefully Jodie Foster wasn't hurt, either...

could be Santa's nice list He does check it

Well, she may not have actually written the list, but only did the ticking off as the pen nib colour is only the same colour as the ticks.
I reckon it's a list of names to make or give presents to and she has so far arranged presents for 3 of them.
Otherwise it's that she is telling Santa only 3 of the designers deserve presents because perhaps she doesn't like living in buildings or using the vehicle made by the 3rd designer on the list, or that designer has made her friends nicer houses! ??
