City Advent Calendar - Day 2
Posted by MeganL,Day 1 gave us a rather good rendition of a microscale City set. It wasn't exactly a holiday build, but perhaps we'll get more of the spirit of the season today.
Talking about spirits, Huw will also be sharing his impressions of what we'll call the alternate City calendar, the one containing shots of malt whisky....
Today we have our first minifigure, and it's none other than Mr. Duke Detain. I know enough about City Adventures to know he's one of the main protagonists, He has a new torso for this calendar, a dark blue sweater with an appropriately wintry snowflake design. Best of all, his sweater features his teddy bear, Cubby, on the front. You have to love a man who isn't afraid to wear a sweater with a teddy bear.
The back of Duke's sweater is similarly detailed (minus Cubby), and the reverse side of his head shows the cool dude shades Duke must wear when he's out on his police work. He's given a wrench as an accessory and I'm not really sure why. I suppose being the helpful fellow he is, he's just ready to help someone fix their car.
Or maybe....he needs it to open up that malt whisky that Huw will be telling us about!

I don't know, from the look on Duke's face(s), I think he's already been enjoying some of that malt whisky.
Loving the ugly sweater thing Lego's doing this year
That's one impressive set of eyebrows.
I wasn't paying attention to the ugly sweater, when I was building, thought it was his police badge.

Should that be Day 1?
Is a xmas sweater automatically an Ugly xmas sweater, or are there nice ones?
Yesterday's single malt in my whisky advent calendar was a 25 year old speyside. Bottled at 51.6% ABV it benefitted from a little water to open it up a bit.
Whiskies from Speyside - an area in the north east of Scotland between Aberdeen and Inverness - have no strong peaty, seaweedy or medicinal flavours, so I tend to prefer them. It was very pleasant, but fairly unremarkable. The finish was not as prolonged as it is for many 25 year olds.
Today it's a 10 year old Macduff.
@Mister_Jonny:
It reminds me of a cashier who rang up my purchase once. She looked like she'd plucked every last eyebrow hair and then filled in the space with a black Marks-A-Lot chisel-tip marker. It looked very symmetrical, but _really_ bad.
The theory my kid came up with about the spanner this morning, as he's holding handcuffs in the picture on the box, is that one of the other characters has stolen the handcuffs, and he's found the spanner that belongs to the mechanic also shown on the box.
Bit of a crime spree happening that we have to solve.
@Spideog:
Or they're doing Secret Santa, and they're all just _REALLY_ bad at giftwrapping.
City and Star Wars seem to have it out for Christmas sweaters this year.

Eugene Levy achievement unlocked!
Love that sweater!
^ You can buy full bottles if you want to. They have specific names, but as I say they are not bottled by the distilleries themselves so there won't be e.g. an 18yo Glenlivet, but possibly a 18 year old that was distilled at the Glenlivet distillery and aged in casks by the independent bottler.
e.g. this is today's https://www.masterofmalt.com/whiskies/macduf/macduff-10-year-old-that-boutiquey-whisky-company-whisky/?srh=1
Oh no... My had no wrench!
