City Advent Calendar - Day 19
Posted by MeganL,Yesterday's blue sports car was the latest in a series of microbuilds. We're at Day 19 and the calendar packaging indicates that there are six minifigures. I think it's about time we see another minifigure.......
Today brings us Rooky Partnur, one of the police officer in LEGO City Adventures. Rooky is clearly on the job, unlike Duke. She's wearing a blue uniform with a vest that has many pockets and also has her badge attached. Her shirt is open at the neck revealing a grey shirt underneath. I particularly like the detail in the printing of the vest pockets, with the zippers as well as the lines showing that there's likely something in the pockets. I also like the detail on the printing on the legs, showing the straps with silver buckles.
Unfortunately Rooky does not have a dual sided head, but the back of her torso has similar detailed printing.
Rooky's accessory is inexplicably a pineapple. Even with the gift exchange, it is not immediately obvious to me why any of the other minifigs included in this calendar would want a pineapple......but maybe I am missing something? I'll have to appeal to the LEGO City Adventure experts out there.

My assessment of the gifts is as follows:
Duke Detain gives a wrench to Harl Hubbs
Harl Hubbs gives dynamite to Daisy Kaboom
Daisy Kaboom gives handcuffs to Duke Detain
Freya McCloud gives a police badge to Rooky Partnur
Rooky Partnur gives a pineapple to Freya McCloud
The pineapple does seem strange but Freya McCloud uses all kinds of bizarre items in her rescue plans and I am certain that she could find use for a pineapple!

The Friends calendar came with Two pens, so maybe there's an apple coming so we can do PenPineappleApplePen.

Or, as a firefighter, she's developed a taste for char-grilled pineapple? I didn't know that was a thing and I just Googled, and some of the recipes look delicious.
Maybe I can forgive Lego for basing its City theme on another TV show, and maybe I can forgive them for naming all its City characters ... but I'm not sure there's enough egg-nog in the world for me to forgive them for naming one of those people "Rooky Partnur".
Really, Lego?
We’re now living in a world where everything is branded, has a logo and a slogan. So of course every character has to have a name. The worry is, where do we go from here... characters naming themselves?!!
The pineapple is too random for my brain to handle.
Maybe the pineapple is for Spongebob? :)
The pineapple is for the Christmas Eve pizza!
@CapnRex101:
The handcuffs and badge seem interchangeable, which would link all five into a single chain. There's also one more minifig to go, which may need to fit into this chain somewhere.
The show these characters came from did a Christmas special on the 12th, called Arrest Ye Merry Genglemen. I haven't watched the series in a long time, but figured it might offer a few helpful clues. Turns out the only thing it explained was Duke's sweater. There's no gift exchange, and most of the characters don't have significant roles. It did also show Duke's obsession with handcuffs, and it does make more sense that a rookie would be excited about getting a badge, since that's what officially makes you a cop.
The pineapple...I dunno. The paired episode (Ride Along Kid) does feature Freya, and a pineapple does appear onscreen, but isn't critical to the plot. Plus, RAK has nothing at all to do with Christmas. I don't know that it's particularly common, but some people apparently decorate pineapples for Christmas instead of trees. Maybe if someone has watched the entire series they'd know some of the characters' backstories better, and if any of them involve pineapples.
In the American south, the pineapple is a symbol of hospitality and friendship. Some people make pineapple "trees" (https://www.southernkitchen.com/articles/entertain/add-a-touch-of-southern-hospitality-to-your-holiday-decorations-with-a-pineapple-christmas-tree).
@bgruner:
I live in Michigan, so about 3-4 European countries away from the southern US. We don't really see much in the way of southern customs around here, and the reference I found for decorating pineapples like Christmas trees came from Hawaii, where it makes a lot more sense.
man those names! 'rooky partnur"?

These new sets based off of some sort of TV show are too random for anybody's brain to handle.
The pineapple looks better if you attach the spare green flower piece too. I think that’s how they’re constructed in the Friends line?
I just realised I hadn't opened today's window - 35 minutes until midnight here so cutting it fine.
My first thought was indeed "pineapple?". Glad to realise I am not alone in being baffled.
We got two of these in the box! I hope that doesn't mean we'll be short on something else.

I had a heck of a time remembering to build the daily model in years past. Haven't missed one yet this year, but it helps that the first thing I do when I get up every day (even on weekends) is record my temperature so I can verify that I'm not running a fever when I go into work. So that's the one good thing that 2020 has going for it, which falls a bit short of making up for everything else.
