Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 6

Posted by ,

Our first exclusive minifigure from the Harry Potter Advent Calendar emerged on day five, raising expectations for whatever may arrive during day six!

Find out what that is after the break...

You cannot have Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire without the titular Goblet of Fire and this important structure appears today. The model consists primarily of reddish brown elements which looks reasonable when compared with the onscreen goblet and the shaping appears fairly accurate too. However, the base departs from the original design as the lower section should be square while the upper part should be cylindrical.

Fortunately, this model is correctly scaled beside minifigures so improves upon the version from 75948 Hogwarts Clock Tower. Moreover, I love the trans-light blue flame with glitter inside, nicely denoting the magical nature of this flame. Perhaps an alternative trans-red flame could have been provided for when the Triwizard Champions are being announced.

Overall - 4.0 - I am satisfied with this rendition of the Goblet of Fire, although its base appears somewhat inaccurate.

By in Norway,

I think you're missing a «You can't have...» in the intro (although we actually did, for fourteen years, until that pitiful goblet in the Clocktower).

Thanks, that little phrase was swallowed by the article break, for some reason.

It is definitely superior to the one in the clocktower. Of course, it does belong in the Great Hall.

It actually belongs in the Entrance Hall, so the Clocktower gets it right (in relation to the book).

If you really look at the goblet prop from the film, this looks fairly accurate to what sits on the square pedestal, excluding the pedestal itself. The bowl of the cup at the top is easy to figure out. The cylinder at the bottom is the part that actually rests on the pedestal. The Kunce brick with the tiles* on it is the smaller bulbous section between the base and the bowl, though it perhaps could have been represented with a single element vs. the five we see here.

*Is anyone else _really_ annoyed by the new location for the pip on 1x1 tiles?

I think I read somewhere that the flames of the Goblet of Fire were frozen into ice for the Yule Ball. That explains why the glitter is used, and exhibits outstanding attention to detail!

Nice build. This looks great! A wonderful piece that can be easily incorporated into other scenes or builds.
