Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 11
Posted by CapnRex101,75981 Harry Potter Advent Calendar is nearing halfway and has offered an appealing selection of minifigures and miniature models during the previous ten days.
Let's see what emerges next...
Fireplaces have appeared in the majority of LEGO Advent Calendars, featuring similar designs and elements. This example certainly appears familiar but looks superb. The tan, dark tan and reddish brown colour scheme is appealing and I like the black grate which is represented by a single 4L bar. The trans-orange fire looks reasonable too, incorporating three trans-orange 1x1 round plates with holes.
However, my favourite detail is the angled stocking hanging above the fireplace. This is simply assembled around a 2x2 corner plate but makes splendid use of three different tile shapes that create a realistic shape. Clips are situated on either flank, permitting the storage of accessories which is always useful.
Overall - 4.0 - I think the fireplace that emerged from the previous Harry Potter Advent Calendar was preferable to this example, due in particular to the stocking.

I had 4 transparent orange pieces and 2 flame pieces for my fire.
So I'm guessing this calendar had a different designer from the friends one, considering its mini-hearth's stocking used two square tiles and a semicircle tile.
Are those clips on the side suggesting HP weapons rack tomorrow?
What the heck is wrong with that stocking?!

I think they’re using a sports sock instead of a stocking. I might try and get the kids to adopt the tradition in our house.
@kacie:
You get an extra of both parts, plus all the tiles used in the stocking, and the half-pin. Feel free to stoke the fire, if you prefer, though. If you turn the first flame so it points out instead of to the side, there’s room to match it with the bonus parts.

It’s been dipped in liquid candy cane.
I built this one inside the bag today, to give the build an additional challenge.
This is my first HP Advent Calendar and I love it, there is a nice mix of micro builds.
And I'm pleased we've had a hint of Christmas today

If you’re planning to leave it in the bag, you might want to poke holes in it so you can clip stuff to those bars on the sides...
The original flame piece used in this one looks so much more realistic than the candle flame they've used in some other recent builds.
@capnrex101 I am confused. You say the previous fireplace was preferable to this, because of the stocking, but you praise the stocking? Did you mean to say this one is better than the old one?
Where's Gary Oldman's face?
