Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 18

Posted by ,

Another splendid accessory for the magnificent Yule Ball emerged yesterday, further expanding the increasingly appealing scenery. Details from this event remain absent though.

Hopefully the new item will occupy such gaps...

Opulent ice sculptures appear throughout the Yule Ball onscreen and this decorated table looks excellent. I love how 1x1 pyramid pieces form the peaks of towers and the trans-clear 1x1 round bricks underneath appear effective, despite their simple design. Additionally, the colourful glasses on the table look perfect, matching that from the window on day twelve.

The decorative foliage and red highlights correspond precisely with the movie, where shrimp is being served from tables like this one. A conspicuous Technic brick is located beneath the table, indicating that this model will connect to another during the remaining few days. Those who have looked at the packaging might already know what that will be.

Overall - 5.0 - Once again, this model includes fantastic detail and demonstrates outstanding fidelity to the source material.

What is it about little trans clear pieces that get me so HYPE?

So my daughter made the mistake to place the nipple pieces the other way around onto the round plate 1x1 with hole and now they are stuck. I'll have to take out the toolbox to get this fixed. Gotta love the adherence between clear plastic and ABS :(

I completely agree, you can tell it's the ice castle from the film. It was a nice fun little build too

I feel like there’s too much happening on the table and too many colours

By in Norway,

This review sent me on a Google quest to find out if there really was shrimp at the Yule Ball. We joked about how the red pieces looked like the shrimp from the Hidden Side shrimp boat this morning, but we concluded they were just some flowers as it felt too ridiculous. Turns out the ice palace actually was surrounded by seafood in the film. All the weird details you discover through LEGO...

Huh? I have never had trouble separating those parts no matter how I put them together. Here’s a simple trick, though. You should have a spare nipple tile in this day’s bag. Set the base on a flat, hard surface. Now take the incorrect assembly and place it on top so the Apollo stud is facing down, and there should be just enough empty space inside the stud to get it started. Using your thumbnails, press down evenly on opposite sides of the flange on the Apollo stud until it’s properly attached to the (formerly) extra nipple tile. The previous nipple tile should be pushed out far enough that it’s easy to remove, and you can repeat the process with the other cup.

@J0rgen:
I remember solid white trees, when stills show that they’re actually snow-covered dark-green trees, and I don’t even remember an ice castle table (much less shrimp). Apparently I wasn’t paying attention to the background _at_all_.

@Purple Dave I doubt it can be seen in the actual film, but I found a production still that showed it.

I'm still looking for a trans clear 1x1 cone that doesn't cost $4 :(

@Zoniax:
I needed two for the PAB cups in my LEGO Store, and I just broke down and bought the set. You end up getting seven for the Coke 6-pack, and if you really want to put the set on display you can just sticker the brick and give it trans-black cones.

They used to for me until they changed the plastic. The sparkle is gone, quite literally.

Can you give me a link? I'm not sure what set you're talking about?
