"Oh no, he's on a little scooter thing! I guess I'll just get out of my big spaceship that can't possibly go faster and chase him on foot!"

By in Singapore,

This is like an armoured bank truck in space! Sure looks wacky

Gravatar
By in United States,

I have most of the sets from Space Police III. First official Vic Viper! Loved this series.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I dunno what the cop plans to do when he caatches the guy either, since while that set of handcuffs will work for one set of arms, they'll do nothing to restrain the other set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I remember playing with this set as just a young whippersnapper! I grew up on space police III.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Watch out for these. They have been known to run over Blackton citizens.

This was a great set for parts. The model was kinda weird and wacky, but I like weird and wacky in my space sets. I saw these on sale for half price at my Home Hardware store back in the day, and I bought 4 of them. And that was back when I didn't even have a lot of disposable income!

i wanted this one for a good while after the series ended. ...I finally grabbed it at a reasonable price. I was let down. It only looks good at the angles on the box. It's awkward. Don't get me wrong, it's not terrible by any means. But they sold it well.

By in United States,

I love these old Space Police sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Frenzy is cool

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Looks cool but desperatly wants modifications, especially around the safe locking mechanism (default buid lets safe easily fall off). Nevertheless, own it, love it!

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is the only Space Police 3 set I don’t own. I do have Frenzy though, he’s a good fig. Space Police 3 was my very first Lego theme, and what a great one it was. Ah, the memories.

By in Poland,

Wanted these but it was at a very challenging financial time for me. I have picked up many of the aliens since then, not so many sets.

By random set of the day standards, this is one of the newest sets you can get. Also by Space Police standards too, as it was the third iteration.

Gravatar
By in Japan,

I basically just got this set because I liked Frenzy the most out of all of the villains, but I still have some fond memories of this set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love this theme, and I am trying to collect all of the sets

For me It's old. It came out before I was really into LEGO, so I consider it "old".

By in United States,

YESSS! This was one of my favorite sets as a kid--one of the first I got when I was first really getting into Lego : ) So amazing.

By in Turkey,

Enclosed cockpit would have been nice in a spaceship of this size.

Gravatar
By in United States,

If you want an enclosed cockpit, look up set 5973 Hyperspeed Pursuit from the 2009 Space Police 3 line. The space cop car in that set is super sleek with its fully enclosed cockpit ... the only problem is that it's hard to remove the cockpit glass to take the pilot in and out without destroying the rest of the ship.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I had this one!

I... don't think it was very good. I recall it being very fragile and misshapen.

Frenzy was a fun Minifig though!

He’ll kind of have to if that Scooter flies down an alley or into a structure too big for his vehicle.

By in Canada,

Never got this ship (still in my 'dark period'), but always like how this set 'flipped things on their head'. All the SPIII set seem follow the idea of: Police fly starships, that look like starships; and the crooks fly 'earth vehicles' (semi-truck, limo,...) w/rockets...this look very 'Brinks Truck-ish'...which now has me wondering: why would the cops be in charge of fiscal security/delivery? I mean, the only vehicle I think of in equivalence that they would use is a SWAT van (or whatever used w/local law enforcement).

By in United States,

@ElephantKnight:
Um...one of his fellow criminals is wearing a Blacktron jacket with a Blacktron Cadet/Target Corps badge on the shoulder (it's actually a bit disconcerting)...

@nashikens:
I actually felt that way about a lot of vintage sets. It's like they often designed sets for their isometric publicity shots, and if you couldn't see it on the box, they didn't put as much effort into it. And I had that experience again with the Bonsai. The cherry blossoms are okay, but the green tufts are so small that the trunk of the tree looks a bit awkward.

@KingTyrannos:
I'm partial to Kranxx, then Brick Daddy, then the statue.

@brick_r:
During the Western Expansion, settlers outpaced police departments, and trains were especially vulnerable. At the advice of some lawyer named Abraham Lincoln, the National Detective Agency (aka the Pinkertons) was formed to provide police protection to the trains that connected the US with its western territories. Railroad companies liked the idea, and started forming their own internal police forces. One of the major tasks of the railroad was transporting gold east on its way to Fort Knox, and cash west to exchange for more gold, so these railroad police were pretty much doing exactly what we see in this set. You know, in a more boring, less sci-fi way.

By in United States,

I wanted this SO BADLY back in the day for that Frenzy figure but never got it.

Personally I wished Frenzy's head and upper torso were separate parts. Would've allowed for more posability and potentially new colors of the parts in the future. As is any mocs you mace of Frenzy's species half to be at least half naked!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I miss this theme. If only I'd been allowed to buy Lego when it came out.

Gravatar
By in United States,

When Space Police 3 came out I hated it as a 12 year old, vastly preferring the villains being humans - or at least good guys and bad guys being a mix of humans and aliens. After more recently building some SP 3 sets, they weren't too bad of sets as far as function/assembly (found them less durable to play than SP2 though), but I still prefer the non-Technic-parts-using SP 2/3 sets, as well as the functionalities of SP3 sets. Plus, Blacktron villains are better than any random aliens throw in SP3. ;) Also, printed > stickers.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Man, that build looks chunky. Too chunky.

On the other hand, Frenzy is a terrific figure.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Hell yeah Huwbot!
Lego, please remake some of your original space themes.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

As others have said, the artwork is misleading as appears to be a bulky craft whereas just a platform attached to a large arch holding the safe with a cockpit window which is a little disappointing when you see it side on. There were some other more interesting and fantastic craft is space police III which hopefully breath some fresh air into another RSOD soon.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Space Police III was a fantastic theme, most of the sets from it is really good. Can't wait for Space Police IV, it's about time Lego!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

My brother got this for me as a present when I was still in my dark ages. A year or so later and I was fully back in the Lego fold.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Most sets in SP 3 are kind of crappy builds, those that are good are very good though: MST, Limo, Pitstop, Galactic Enforcer and Police Station, the rest are forgettable imo.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I was slightly disappointed by this set, if I’m honest. Looking at the picture I was expecting a great bulldog of a thing, an armoured truck of a spaceship. But the cockpit is slightly gappy and fragile and the back is all just space for the gold container. Not quite was I was expecting so it’s my least favourite of the SPIII sets I own

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Huh, I have this set in a bag ready to someday give my son whenever did something worthy of getting this. Bought in a garage sale. Even if the set isn't to his liking, those figures look nice and it has some funky looking parts.

Gravatar
By in United States,

My first SPIII set. I liked the design of the engines, and the fact that Frenzy could hold a bar in his mouth. (I love oddball connection points like that.)

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Jack_Rizzo:
I went through the same thing with 6071. Later on, I ended up sneaking off to the store to smuggle several of the Dragonmasters sets into the house when my parents weren’t home.

@TheOtherMike:
That’s so you can stick a bar into his mouth when you have to amputate a limb. Maybe two.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Great googly moogly, I was just lamenting the fact that I have too many City police but not enough Space Police.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I LOVE this choice for random set of the day! I actually own every Space Police version 3 set, including this one, and I remember how much fun I had building all of these sets and collecting all of the minifigures. Thanks for this nostalgic trip down memory lane!

Gravatar
By in Croatia,

We just got some Space Police figures in the latest CMF series, a Space Policemen and an Alien. I am very grateful for that, although I do wish we got a entire new wave of Space Police sets (or heck, just anything original Space in general would be great).

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

My first SPIII set. I eventually collected the entire theme except the pitstop because at the time they were all nicely discounted and I was glad to see a more proper return to space after the mixed bag that was Mars Mission (most sets there seemed too technic skeleton like and thin to me).

As others have pointed out, this set is not the best of the theme. In fact, I daresay it is arguably the worst of the entire subtheme. Every single set I bought thereafter was actually nicer.

5969 Squidman's Escape: A suprisingly well-made scooter, possibly the best in this theme. Includes the memorable Squidman.

5970 Freeze Ray Frenzy: Two well-designed bikes. I like the unconventional design of the police bike, and the bad guy bike is possibly the best bike in the theme, looking good from all angles.

5971 Gold Heist: All the engines on this thing can rotate, which makes it a bit wobbly. Not the best, but works for 20 euro at the time

5972 Container Heist: Like Gold Heist, it feels a bit lacking. The container has no bottom and the halves are integrated into the ship. That said, I like the design of the 'Mad Max in space' truck design, and it's always fun to have a space police laser pop up from the back, which can rotate and turn up and down.

5973 Hyperspeed Pursuit felt detailed enough to be straight from a movie. Both ships look gooood. The only downside was its price at the time, but I daresay its worth it when you own the set.

5974 Galactic Enforcer: feels like the most complete capital ship I have seen (it has an interior, back door, multiple parts that detach that make sense, quad cannons on joints etc). Possibly my favourite spaceship.

5979 Max Security Transport: One of the weaker ones from the theme as it feels a bit thin. But the functions are spot-on, and the modularity of the front and back into an escape craft, 'extra defense mode' and conversion to hover mode are fun.

5981 Raid VPR. A Vic Viper with blacktron alien. And it's swooshable and has a hinged cockpit!!!

5982 Smash 'n Grab: again, one of the weaker ones. The vehicle feels a bit light for what it is. Visual design is interesting though.

5983 Undercover cruiser: surprisingly memorable in its base form, and the transformation felt satisfying.

5984 Lunar Limo: A beautiful set. This thing is looong but sleek, and it really feels like a luxury 'space car', complete with trunk, license plate, hood ornament etc.

5985 Space Police HQ: a fine base! The interior is a bit sparse in the hanger, but it has multiple areas like a garage, command center, shooting range, pod storage, café and scooter launch platforms. The build does feel a bit dumbed down sometimes, and there are only 4 minifigs though!

8399 K-9 Bot: For 3 euro it was a nice way to get one of those detailed (for the time) SPIII officers, and a robot dog with some personality.

8400 Space Speeder: If you think Frenzy's speeder in Gold Heist is small, this thing exists to make that feel luxurious. It's basically a plank with fire coming out and a cannon on the front. But at least you get a Snake fig... who is the most common one. And who has no visor. But you could get spares from other SPIII sets at least.

Gravatar
By in United States,

That alien reminds me a lot of the prototype Seatron minifig.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Reading some of these comments makes me realize again how old I am. ;-)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Yay Space! Sort of! SP3 never quite felt like a return to form but I couldn't quite say why. Some great sets came out of that theme, though. Lunar Limo and Raid VPR come to mind.
