Alternative instructions for this year's Art sets available for download

Posted by ,

LEGO has made alternative instructions available for Art sets 31201 Harry Potter Hogwarts Crests and 31202 Disney's Mickey Mouse.

Mickey and Minnie can be rebuilt with different facial expressions, while the Harry Potter set can be transformed into either Hedwig, a golden snitch or a platform 9 3/4 sign.

They are available as PDFs at the Art product page at LEGO.com or you can download them directly here and here.

Prefer the Mickey Mouse ones, not sure about Hedwig or the Snitch though...

The Hedwig is great! The winking Micky however...kinda scary.

Blimey, that is the smuggest owl I have ever seen.

I thought the Hedwig was really good. I was wondering what you are talking about, but then I saw the smugness, and now I can't unsee it.

Great that they’ve actually provided instructions for these. Kudos!

Those Mickey and Minnie ones are very nice. For some reason, they remind me of the old Disney GameBoy games.

Is there a Darth Sidious (Clone Wars) for the Sith? I mean, that really felt like a missed opportunity.

Minnie looks surprisingly happy despite Mickey's stitches.

Mickey looks as if someone has poked his eye out. Like the others though.

These are great, are there any alternatives to the first two products (The Sith and Iron Man)?

@TheWackyWookiee:
Are you saying that because he’s the more prominent of the two actual Sith who got left out, or because they gave his spot to some emo wuss who dressed up in a thrift store Sith costume?

Hopefully the leftover pieces from the Harry Potter sets will go a long way to creating some of these.

Thought I was going to get away with just buying 2 mickey sets.... Lego certainly know what they're doing!

Why do people always have to bring up how much they hate recent Star Wars when anyone else talks about anything even tangentially related to Star Wars? The last one came out over a year ago. The one everyone seems to hate the most came out over three years ago. It’s just annoying at this point.

They're trying to get people to buy even more copies!

More likely people will by them now that they are all half original retail price at Kmart in Aus ($99), luckily I didn't pay too much more than that when I bought 2x HW Crests recently, definitely going to have a go at hedwig :)

More alternate instructions? Kinda glad I haven't started collecting LEGO art yet, the completionist in me would have a heart attack!

I feel these sets are way too expensive for what you get, although providing additional designs does go a long way in justifying the cost. I still don’t plan to buy them, but perhaps I would consider them more if they were on sale.

It makes me wonder however why they released these additional designs. We’re these planned all along? If so why not include them in the printed instructions in the first place? Or are the sets simply not selling and they are trying to give people more reason to buy them?

If they provide alternate Beatles builds I might be convinced to get a set. The four current pictures are nothing worth getting. However if they had builds for more recognizable images (Let It Be cover, White Album inserts) it would certainly be more appealing and either of those options might be doable with the included parts.

While I do appreciate them taking the time to put out new builds, I really wish they could've just done the instructions like the actual sets, instead of what looks like photos of the built parts. Doing it that way makes it unnecessarily difficult to tell between all of the dark colors, mainly black and pearl dark grey...

Quite a fan of these. I particularly like the Harry Potter ones, but does really highlight just how dull the 'official' in the box 4 designs of the crests are.

These look interesting. And it is a neat feature to have extra options.

I haven't bought any and I don't think I will. I have too many other sets to worry about.

Oddly enough I think the winking Mickey is my favorite one (and that might be a cool band name, the winking Mickeys). And I'm not even a Mickey fan.

The Mickey one is really nice except that winking eye looks kinda funny. The same thing with a normal eye would be a nice option.

The Minnie Mouse is interesting because it looks like a more modern version (well, relatively, the modern eyes were late 30's) with the white of the eyes being included, instead of pure black ovals
