Interesting that all the hype that Lego was trying to create this year saying "order early" was all B.S. - all of the products are still available including the homestead 4 days later.... because of this Lego created a duplicate order for me, and I'm still trying to get it fixed. Lego get your $@$ together!

Well to be fair there were a few sets (like the Cantina/UCS Falcon to name a couple) that did indeed sell out asap.

The Homestead ran out in the EU on Saturday morning, and has sold out everywhere except the US/Canada.

No it didn’t. I made a purchase in Belgium on Monday afternoon, and I did get one, and they had plenty left there at the store.

This was a good year, I went in to remove some SW sets to be comfortable to buy R2 but then saw the 2017 UCS MF in Backorder statues and after consulting with my father (even with $175 VIP points of discount it's a big investment), he was surprisingly supportive of me buying the set and he even gave me $100 to offset the investment. That one is going on an acrylic box when it gets here, I also managed to get AT-AT vs Tauntaunt and some Bricks and Pieces while nabbing the Ep 4 Tatooine scene, now I have all the OT sceneries with the exception of last year Death Star 2 Trench Run.

The homestead GWP was gone before midday on day 1 in the UK online.

So um, it’s kind of odd that they didn’t reveal the summer Star Wars sets. I mean, the even built up to revealing them by revealing all the other summer sets over the last few days.

The only known Summer set so far, the Bad Batch Shuttle, was apparently supposed to be revealed and possibly even released on May the 4th but was postponed to May the 7th, possibly because it contains a spoiler for the first episode of the show. That's what I've heard at least. However, plenty of pictures out there right now if you want to look at it.

By in Canada,

I hesitated on buying R2, and now he's not even available for backorder, so no May the 4th for me.

I kinda like the homestead vignette, but I own all the other Star Wars sets I'd consider purchasing already. R2 was my only hope....

Oh well! I guess I'm glad he was popular enough to sell out, though! Everyone else who gets one will be happy

By in Germany,

In Germany, the GWP was sold out online Saturday morning. As the stores are closed due to Lockdown, online was the only place to order anyway.

So basically, this year's "ultimate LEGO Star Wars event" over here meant double VIP points. Very sad "event" in comparison with recent years.

By in Sweden,

Everyone said there would be plenty of GWP's so I wasnt in a hurry ordering stuff.. until I woke up at saturday and it was already gone.

By in Canada,

Quite content with the May the 4th event this year. Lots more going on than last year. Even Toys R Us celebrated with 20% off most SW sets! And the fact that LEGO got the UCS MF and MBS Mos Eisley in stock shortly before it went live on May 1st was a welcome surprise :)

Now the completed Tatooine diorama build is becoming a reality. Just waiting to pre-order the Lego Tatooine Twin Sunset!

We know pretty much all (if not all) summer sets now. Take a look at MandR. Pretty sure Solid Brix did one too as well as many other small scale YouTubers

In regards to the Bad Batch shuttle, it does have a spoiler and Disney went a little mad when it was leaked 2 days before the show.

I think they might limit the GWPs per household… sometimes. When I placed my order Saturday night around 1 AM I got the GWP. When I was checking if I could get another GWP with a new purchase the day after I saw my basket jumping from 2 items back to 1. So the GWP was removed from it. Also the following days I didn’t see any advertising on their website anymore about the GWP while double VIP was still advertised.

But I know, it’s not always like that. I have 5 copies of the Ice Skating Rink, I think 4 Amelia Earharts and 2 or 3 Easter Bunny carrot houses. Might depend on availability per region (which now seemed to be much lower for EU than US/CAN) according to reports.

I’ve seen the leaked shuttle, and the episode, and
Oh yeah. It does have a major spoiler for the first episode.

By in Canada,

Congrats to all who got what they want (me included)! I jumped on R2 initially and then swung back around for the probe droid, AT-AT vs Tauntaun and a keychain for a second Tatooine Homestead GWP. I'm shocked that the GWP is still available here in Canada! And if I'm being honest, a little bummed because that means there was tons and it's not that rare! XD Took me about 10 minutes to purchase everything due to the site glitching hard for the first few minutes, but everything came out in the end and everything should be arriving tomorrow.

For those who got the UCS Falcon or the MBS Cantina, way to go! I managed to score a UCS Falcon during the VIP Black Friday event last November, I love how they seem to save up some of their big sets for these events. They had 0 UCS Falcons on the first night of the BF event, but I checked the following morning and they had some on back order, which was a pleasant surprise. Managed to nab one and it showed up just in time for Christmas!

Double VIP Points and IMHO a lame promo item just didn't cut it for Me. Even TRU had items at 20% off but LEGO couldn't discount a single set? Again Pathetic, Nuff Said!"

If all your products are out of stock or it is hard to keep them in stock, will you discount them? I certainly wouldn’t, it’s just a basic concept of business

Would have been nice if Europe had enough gwps, especially since North America did. Maybe because Europe had more buyers restricted to online only?

I love this site. If Lego has enough GWPs for everyone to have one, people complain. If they don't make enough, people complain.

That's as maybe, but if people are disappointed by such an event, they are unlikely to care / buy in future.
I certainly won't buy from LEGO online again anytime soon.
I did score some great LEGO Star Wars bargains on Amazon though, plus at JB Spielwaren.

@Agnew - For nearly every market, LEGO ran out of the the May the 4th GWP prior to May the 4th. Latching onto a single comment from the single unaffected market to create an unsupported if not outright false narrative is trollish.

By in United Kingdom,

Was logged in to Lego.com at 5am on May 1st. Placed my order for R2D2. Lovely no issues. 3 days later I get an email saying its on back order!!! Thats an extra 2 week + wait. There are worse things in life but for christ sakes whoever handles there stock should be sacked. How many more time will Lego fail to anticipate demand. If only they had a way of judging these things, hmmm...

By in Portugal,

LEGO does promotions but they are not for all countries, the Gold Leader minifig “Dutch” Vander ™ is not available in Portugal or in many other countries, the sun when it is born is not for everyone.

By in United Kingdom,

I thought it was very sneaky how Lego offered the droid and helmets as a pre order. That will have saved them a pretty penny on double points dish outs only days before the promo started. Feel for those that fell for it thinking they may go out of stock or not realising the promo was coming only a few days later. Those sets have been available throughout from what I’ve seen

Interesting! I pre-ordered during the DBL VIP points event from April 12-20 and also added the promo codes for Ulysses and the Space Coin. Worked out quite well :)

SW LEGO, and actually all LEGO, is selling through sale or no sale. But, yes, we will give you points to buy more LEGO not-on-sale. Why have a sale when you may potentially run out of stock and have to adjust production to make more.
Figure production is going full out now for summer release sets before switching out to winter sets. Note the staggered release (EU versus NA) of the Bird of Prey as they fill that pipeline and avoid a long period of Sold Out like they did for the Bouquet and Bonsai when released internationally with limited stock in the pipeline.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Honestly, I had got my best deals at other stores. I got two sets at Lego for the gift and then got the Vader Helmet at Best Buy with a free $10 gift card. Then at target they had a Star Wars deal for in store pick up and got the rise of skywalker Falcon for 127 along with some other smaller sets. Lego shop wasn’t that good this year.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Another disappointment to UK/EU fans with promo selling out online within hours but to be fair to LEGO, when I complained they were really quick to respond and gave me some VIP points to try and make up for it. Still a bit sad as I managed to get the other 3 promos but such is life I guess!!

I get why they do it... money, and there is nothing wrong with that. But $2-5 off a set will not hurt the bottom line, and it would show love to the Lego fans.

The first year I didn't purchase a thing.

Not only there were no gift for the vast majority of people, there were no discounts.

Don't know why for any countries we get always the middle finger from Lego.

Nice, well worked.
Most of us here are wise to the windows of opportunity, and non opportunity, that being a Lego VIP member brings. I just felt that the pre order thing was a bit unnecessary if, as it would appear, there was never going to be an availability issue. So with the sets release being May 1st when they would always be double points anyway it seems all it did ultimately was provide an opportunity to miss out on double points. A non opportunity basically.
There are also quite a few other sets throughout the non Star Wars themes that have been released on the 1st, which were not made available to pre order. So why these 3 sets?
To save any points they can is the only answer I can come up with.
It’s business I know, and maybe I’m way off, but those like most of us here plan our purchases and work these things out. There are so many more NOT like us making super occasional purchases that have VIP accounts too. With points sat in them. They aren’t really VIP’s.
This all points to too many VIP’s. At which point we kind of stop being VIP’s and start missing out on things ;-)
Perhaps Lego recognises this as a flaw with the program and is trying to find ways for the less frequent, less experienced, less enthusiastic, less loyal buyers to not benefit so much from the rewards.
Certainly sounds like it would be a big job as you can’t just cut members. Perhaps a loyalty tiering system? Who knows, it’s a proper brain teaser as many previous articles have quickly highlighted.

So the 3 sets on pre order, I can honestly only see it as a benefit to Lego ultimately.
It was a kind of slight of hand move to safeguard a load of points handouts, between events for however many days that was.
It’s just business. Horrible stuff.

I’m not sure who “everyone” is, since I always recommend staying up to fight the crowds as soon as it goes live. If nothing else, it means you have less worries about the sets you want to buy going out of stock too early. As annoying as it is to find out you missed the GWP altogether, it’s also no fun to realize it’s still available, but only if you order sets you don’t want because nothing else is left.

@winbrant:
Gosh, I hope that’s the old Klingon Bird of Prey. Never been a fan of the Romulan version...
