The one with the teaser for a new Friends set
Posted by Huw,LEGO has just teased a Friends set on Twitter. No, not another minidoll Friends one, but one based on the TV series Friends...
It appears to show four of the cast peering round the door of someone's apartment. I am sure those of you more acquainted with the series than I (I've never watched an episode) will recognise the scene.
Could you BE more excited for another set based on the sitcom?

It’s Monica’s apartment
Well this pretty much confirms the rumours it’ll be Monica and Rachel’s apartment. Can’t wait! I hope they use that new monkey mould for Marcel.
It’s from the episode “the one with the late thanksgivings” (season 10 episode 8)
Can’t wait to see the full set!
^ I'm not sure whether to be impressed or sad that you could pinpointed it so quickly!
Love the Sally’s hair recolour for Phoebe

Haha! I knew the episode, just a quick google to know what the episode number was ;)
Monica's apartment! If it's that episode I expect cranberry sauce.

It's a fairly famous scene, the teaser image is based on this moment https://friends.fandom.com/wiki/The_One_With_The_Late_Thanksgiving?file=TOWTLateThanksgiving.png
Well, guess I know what I'm asking my family for for Christmas...
Looks like it'll even have the hallway outside the door, which to be fair is a very iconic part of the whole show, but I wonder just how much of the apartment will be in this LEGO set. Will it also have the two bedrooms, bathroom, the balcony (surely), Monica's secret closet? Even just the main floor alone with kitchen and living area is a pretty big LEGO set. Nice how sitcom sets lend themselves well for playsets like LEGO without that fourth wall.
Never watched the show, need to do it at some point, but the 2019 Central Perk is one of the best IDEA sets so this makes me excited to see what the set looks like. Hopefully it will be as good value at the Perk was too.
So the original Central Park sold that well huh? This is unexpected but welcomed at the same time.
That sticker not matching the door colour triggers my OCD. Couldn't LEGO use transparent sticker sheet or at least cut it smaller if a print was too expensive for a 150$ 18+ set?
Could you be more excited for a set based on the sitcom?
Are you sure you have never watched an episode.? Chandler?
This is great. Hopefully Joey's apartment will follow as well.
Could I BE any more excited?!
Lego needs to do a Friends (show) set with minidolls. Just sayin'.
Friends may be popular, but I can't stand it. In my opinion, it's just filler for most TV networks daytime schedules.

I'm not sure Joey and Chandler's apartment would be as interesting to build, its a bit bland, but would be cool to have a minifigure scale fussball table and a duck.
As good as the central perk set is I feel this more captures what friends was all about. Excited to see the Easter eggs and full set.
The minifigs peeking in the door are obviously Photoshopped in. There’s no way they could fit four minifigs in the door with it only open at that small angle.
Is this "The one where @Huw feigns interest"?
This doesn't interest me at all. I watched the show when it first aired but that's a long time ago. But now it just seems horribly dated.
If Lego is going to do this I deserve a wave is Classic Space inspired sets.

Loads of sets these days have nods to classic space, or classic spacemen in new colours. TLM and TLM2 even gave us whole classic space inspired sets. It's time for some other retired themes to get a chance in the limelight ;)
"The truth is the game was rigged from the start"
Oh wait... wrong Mathew Perry character.
Eh, my wallet is ready. Friends was (still is) a show my mom watched constantly while I was growing up, so its etched in my memory forever. The last set we got for her a couple of Christmas's ago, so we will be making sure she gets this one too.
I'm waiting for the Seinfeld set, based on the superior 90's sitcom

I heard rumours that it has been LEGO's most successful IDEAS set to date financially, which given the popularity of the show (like it or not it's certainly close to, if not the, most iconic and successful sitcom of all time), and the reasonable price of the set, I fully believe is likely... For example, I have at least two mates who are fans of the show (but not traditionally LEGO fans) who's partners got them the Central Perk set for Christmas!
Bigfig of Joey wearing all of Chandler's clothes?
Friends don't let friends buy Friends LEGO sets.
I became all excited to see a Lego Friends DTC set... but it's that just that tv show license again XD
Jk. It's surprising they're going to give it another go already. Would this be like how Minecraft started with the micro worlds Ideas sets and branched off into a lego-developed theme?
My goodness Lego has a lot of licenses these days...

Is simply reporting this news on Brickset "feigning interest", or the way Huw referenced Chandler's "could ____ BE any more ____"?
Where’s the Seinfeld set I was promised?!
Jesus... another one? Why?

Coming 'soon.' Ideas sets often take such a long time you almost forget they were going to be a thing by the time they are released. And considering you still remember it...
XD
Yes, I could BE more excited for another set based on the sitcom.
I’m curious if this will be able to somehow interface with Central Perk? It will probably be too large to go above it if they do it well.

If there is in fact hallway I doubt that any Bedrooms Would make the cut.
I could see the hallway, the balcony, And like a Smaller living Room/kitchen.
Probably very similar to big Bang theory.
Gah. With as much as I enjoyed Central Perk, this would probably be a must buy set.
Most likely a day one for my wife, but personally I'm still hoping for a Frasier set :)

Probably this is why there are 2 The Office sets qualified for Ideas.

We tend to rotate through rewatching this, Cheers, The Office, Frasier and Mad About You and love every minute of each. If this set only contains one of the apartments, then I hope it’s more affordable than $150. Both apartments and the hall without bedrooms would have been perfect.
Considering the fact that there’s essentially two main locations in the show, the apartment is the logical "sequel" set. That leads me to believe that the first set sold well.
Some here may not understand why Lego would make another set. The show gets it’s share of scorn, but it's a classic for a reason. Judge it fairly as a multi-cam sitcom with silly jokes and goofy plots.
Go back and watch the first several seasons and you’ll see an ensemble that creates magic. Setting aside the substance abuse issues, Matthew Perry really shines in particular.
I'm not even that big of a fan and won't buy these sets. But I definitely appreciate the show's place in TV history. There are literal laugh-out-loud moments throughout. If you want something fun to watch that goes down easy like sipping some lemonade, it's hard to go wrong with Friends.

This is like the third or so in history, I don't think there's an oversaturation, and hey, if you don't like it, don't buy it
So if the Seinfeld sells well can we expect Monk's diner set (as it is the secondary location for the series, same as this appartment is accompanying the Central Perk in Friends)?
PS. They should really do the TV theme to separate it from IDEAS

I wholeheartedly agree, but they did the Kwik-E-Mart already
As with the previous ones, I'm sure this will have lots of useful parts. Unfortunately, it makes the lack of Greendale even sadder.
Please do not describe or post links to leaked images.

Oh wow, you just made me imagine a Taxi set of the main garage set. I would buy the hell out of that!
Friends is awesome, I'm surprised at the negative comments. If you don't like it you don't have to buy it.
They'll never do it, but my dream would be a Cheers set. That bar is gorgeous and iconic.
I know its it's coming... but I'm just sitting here waiting for Seinfeld.
Never understood the Friends popularity, but good to see a second set for this. The coffee shop was extremely detailed and nice.
Maybe itll open the door for Monk's Coffee shop for a second Seinfeld set!
SO excited for this set. Friends was a great show, and another set would be welcomed. Would also like to see The Office, perhaps one of the most popular shows of all time!!!
Agree too that I wish they would make more Simpsons sets, and I they should do more Disney sets, and how about this... Major theme park rides as a series. Space Mountain, Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean, or Tower of Terror?!?! If they made those, I would just start signing over my paychecks to Lego. Just MY 2 cents.
Could this set be any prettier? Lol..
Apparently it's Monica's and Joey & Chandler's in one set! Look fantastic either way.

As somebody who has watched a lot of Friends with my family, seen how massive it is in Latin America still, and also seen the complaints against it online my perspective is that Friends is a great show that unfortunately is hobbled by the era it came out it.
I know people like to pit it as a Friends vs. Seinfeld thing, but take a step back and look at the 90's in terms of sitcoms. Most series were still very much ala the family sitcom style, focusing on nuclear households and "very special lessons," very much the type of show that The Simpsons (and more recently WandaVision) would spoof. Cheers and MASH were maybe really the only major sitcoms to break away from that mold, but for the most part early 90's TV was dominated by the Family Ties, Full House, Fresh Prince take on the aging family sitcom tropes. Both Friends and Seinfeld though came on the scene roughly the same time with a premise that broke the mold, both series were about single sex crazed 20-somethings living in New York City. There were no children to teach a lesson to, both shows were meant as shows for adults and teenagers who would appreciate the innuendos and "adult humor."
But in Friend's case it was a product of its time. Ross's lesbian ex-wife is a running gag that just doesn't fly today for example. The laugh track, a remnant of being filmed in front of a live studio audience comes across as dated and really ruins the comedic timing of the series when compared to later laugh track less shows like The Office (in both UK and US formats). But the series thrived on its character's, and no matter how wacky they got; to the kudos of the main actors of Friends they managed to ground the characters in a way that made their antics believable. Look at the post-Friends careers of David Schwimmer, Jennifer Anniston, Courtney Cox, or even Mathew Perry (hence why I was quoting New Vegas earlier) and you get a glimpse at how broad their acting range can be when taken outside the sitcom roles. In Schwimmer's case, go watch American Crime Story: OJ Simpson or Band of Brothers to show the dude's range as an actor. "Crap Bag" himself is Paul Rudd who we all know now as Ant-Man in the Marvel films. Really only Matt LeBlanc is the only main Friends cast who didn't seem to show much range outside of Joey (it doesn't help that we remember him too now as part of the trio that tried to replace Clarkson, Hammond and May on Top Gear either).
I haven't seen much of Seinfeld, but I gather it escapes criticism because while it has many of the same dated issues as Friends its more ironic and cynical which is more in-brand for modern internet humor. Friends is a bit more optimistic and "glass half full" in its world views. But it is important to see the show in the time frame of the 1990's itself, and it makes it clear that it was as far as live action goes one of the more notable comedies of the era (I would argue that The Simpsons and Animaniacs/Pinky and the Brain and then later on South Park and King of the Hill all broke more ground in TV humor at the time, but since they are all animated series they get a bit of a different retrospective view with time).
Personally I was good with the one. Guess I will likely pass on this.
Love it. Don’t care if the show was ‘of it’s time’. Of course it was ‘of it’s time’. And what an amazing time it was. Hope they make a SATC set next...
Yes, I could be more excited, because I'm really not. Ultimately, I'll judge the set on it's own merits when it comes out - there might be something about it's design that is interesting - but being a Friends tie-in isn't all that interesting in itself.
Still so much sets i need to buy. This will be one of them.
I’m already sold, and no I’m not going on a break!

People go on about Seinfeld and The Office but what about Taxi? Barney Miller? WKRP?
How on earth have you not seen a Friends episode but still know about the sarcastic way Chandler speaks?
Only one comment about the sticker? Is everyone else completely fine with the sticker color not matching the door color (or not being transparent, or of a smaller size)?
Have we lowered our expectations of Lego by so much?

21103, 21108, 21304, and 21308 had follow up Dimensions sets.

I mean people keep buying so LEGO can get away with it. There long have been complaints but if there is no action nothing will change.
So excited for this. The fact that it’s both appartments has me so hyped up. Can’t believe the amount of negativity here, and if I remember right this was the same reaction to the last one. Haters of this show are so loud sometimes, it can be hard to actually find fans of the show.

There have been more Castle and Pirate sets released in the last few years than Friends sets :p
Funny that this is either a strange render or a strange case of photoshopping. The doorknob has a mould mark (which is usually photoshopped out) and no LEGO logo…

The logo is there; it's just hard to see
Sets like the television show Friends bring in lots of non-traditional LEGO customers - people who don’t otherwise ever purchase LEGO sets. Of course LEGO wants to give these people a new set to buy and hopefully get them in their stores. Some of them will turn into occasional customers, Some will become regular shoppers and some will become LEGO maniacs.
The first Friends set was wildly successful and it was more important for marketing purposes. It was most likely reasonably priced to attract an entirely different customer. It’s great marketing.
OH… MY… GOD!
And easy skip for me.
The show was unfunny and cringe when I saw it first in the 90's and it has aged awfully.
I much rather LEGO would do other sitcom sets.
I'm looking forward to it. Be nice to see Joey and Chandler's apartment too. Never found Seinfeld funny (despite some excellent acting talent in the show). I'd definitely buy a set of Frasier's apartment though.
My sister will love this. We built the Disney castle together and I got her the first F.R.I.E.N.D.S. set for Christmas when it came out. Although, she really REALLY wants a set based on "The Office" show
I've never watched a single episode of the show, yet I still have the Ideas set, simply because I think it is a nice set with cool pieces for my parts bin - and I got it at a discount.
If this new one fills the same criteria, I might get it as well.
One doesn't have to like or even know the source material to appreciate a good set.
Fans of the show will appreciate: Will the set have the wood beam or not?
If there is enough of a market for TWO sets based on Friends. . . I would think we could finally get at least ONE set based off of The Office!
@ AddictedToStyrene
"People go on about Seinfeld and The Office but what about Taxi? Barney Miller? WKRP?"
All great shows . . . but way too old to be relevant. Shows like Friends and The Office are at least still on nightly reruns in the USA and relevant to the young adults who have extra cash to spend and also grew up playing with Lego.
@FireFox31 said:

It will.
I only bought the original Friends set because it was on sale and dirt cheap. Not that I didn’t like the show, it was definitely the best show to air on Thursday nights before Seinfeld. But I am thrilled that I got it because it has to be one of the greatest Lego building experiences I have ever had. I’m not sure I will buy this set unless it too is incredibly well priced, but I am excited about it. This means there is potential for additional Seinfeld sets as well.
Monks diner, the Chinese restaurant, the parking garage, Kramer’s apartment with both the hot tub and Japanese tourists in the dresser, George Steinbrenner’s office, Kramer’s Reality Tour Bus, the Costansa’s house, and of course the Soup Nazis restaurant (with an armoire).
After that of course we will need a Curb Your Enthusiasm line.

Oh I know, I was just reminiscing. The market, including non-AFOLs, is just as you describe. I am happy that people love this mini-theme, even if it's not for me. Now if LEGO made a set of The Goodies...
I like the lightsaber hilt frying pan, good to have handy in case you need to release any Jedi stress while cooking.
@Huw How will it be categorized since there's already a Friends-theme? Will it be under a F·R·I·E·N·D·S theme then? Had to look up the Central Perk, but that was a Lego Ideas set. Just curious ;)

Ah, but the Central Perk set was ‘a set’, not a location. I like the potential for a whole meta studios theme. In 2032 we’ll be waiting for ‘studio audience’ to appear as RSOTD
SPOILER ALERT! The instruction manual for MONICA's apartment is numbered as follows:
"1, 2, 1-2-3, 3, 5, 4, 3-2, 2, 2-4-6, 2-4-6, 4, 2, 2, 4-7, 5-7, 6-7, 7, 7, 7-7-7-7-7-7-7-..."
"And there you are"
Ooh look, a rare 2x2 brick in trans-phobic...
I hope it won't rely too much on stickers, especially if they look as obvious as stickers as in this pic.
Other than that: psyched, because that Central Perk set was amazing to build and still has a prominent place in my living room. I even put Christmas decorations in there last year.
