[US] Brand store offers for June
Posted by Huw,The US store calendar for June has revealed a number of enticing offers and a couple of new sets:
- All month: Purchase 40490 Ninjago 10th Anniversary BrickHeadz for $10 when you spend over $85 on Ninjago, in-store only
- 7-20 June: Free 30343 McLaren Elva with purchases of $40 or more
- 21-30 June: Free 5006746 Swing ride with purchases of $85 or more
- 24 June-11 July: Free 30387 Bob Minion with Robot Arms polybag with purchases of $40 or more
The BrickHeadz set is thus a 'purchase with purchase' (PWP) rather than a gift with purchase (GWP). What do you think of that idea?
I wonder if the mini fairground ride GWP signals a new Creator Expert fairground set?

Not happy about the purchase with purchase.
I hope the Ninjago Brickheadz will be available online where shops still aren't open
I am not to keen on that buy with purchase offer but that fairground GWP is neat and if possible I'll get the Minion as well.
Guess I'll order the Bad Batch Shuttle on June 25.
I'm guessing that the Brickheadz set is going to be priced somewhere in the $25 range normally and that you merely get it on a heavy discount if you spend the required money on Ninjago. Which is a fine deal imo. They definitely could have worded it better.
And as a big time lover of Ninjago, great timing for me, as I'll be in a physical LEGO Store for just the fourth time ever on the 4th.
Leg Godt on the swing ride. Yeah baby!
So now they're offering the Elva, after it's been on Walmart and Target shelves for months? Personally, I don't have the $40 extra to spend, so I'd just buy the polybag,

This is a newer Elva. Not the polybag version.

Looking at the image, it has exactly identical pieces to the one that Walmart is selling.
You get all three Brickheadz with one 85$+ purchase, right?

You're right, my mistake.
Eh... a "purchase with purchase" might seem a little iffy in the abstract, but in practice, it might help ensure that they don't run out as fast as they tend to with many GWPs. By making it an additional cost, there's more chance that people who aren't as interested in them won't bother to add the set to their purchase, leaving more of them for those of us who are interested and would be more seriously disappointed if they ran out before we got a chance at them.
That might be my bias as a Ninjago fan, though. If they were rolling something like this out with another theme I might be a little more peeved at the surcharge (but then again, I would probably care less about doing without).
Beyond the nitty gritty of how the set is paid for, I'm excited for more BrickHeadz from a non-licensed theme, even if they're such an eclectic mix. They're all pretty cute (even the dragon, which is a bit of an odd choice for a BrickHeadz figure). I'll have to see if I can pick this up. Of course, I'll have to try to figure out whether there's $85 worth of Ninjago I don't already have... which could be a challenge with the summer sets being an August release in the U.S., and me already having a lot of the sets I'd wanted from the winter wave.
I'm a little surprised (and a tiny bit disappointed) that the Everyone is Awesome set isn't mentioned on this store calendar. The generic fairground theme of the header is probably to tie in with an as-of-yet unannounced D2C set, but for it being Pride month it would've been nice to see a gorgeous seasonal set like that front and center. As it is, it's not even shown on the front or the back, which could be an indication that even as Lego corporate finally is committing to LGBT representation, there's still a reluctance there or at Lego Brand Retail to emphasize that in their general marketing materials.
So the new creator expert fairground set would be a swing ship...?
In store only sucks...
As a NINJAGO and Brickheadz afficionado, it bothers me that a promotion of this level is so biased.
I guess that for LEGO everyone is awesome, but some are just more awesome than others.
Kind of annoyed at the PWP idea. First the threshold is raised from $75 to $85 and now it's an extra $10 for the set? It seems like it would be a $30 set and $75/85 GWPs are usually a $20 value, so it's not the worst thing in the world, but if LEGO is going to charge extra at the threshold then why not just sell the set? I don't understand why these BrickHeadz multi-packs are being rolled out as GWPs when they seem like normal sets with broad enough appeal to be on shelves.

In the fine print of the calendar, they say the ARV is $29.99.
I'm guessing dragon heads on the swing?
My guess is the PWP is based on VIP feedback but is really a way to see how the bots react. Since it goes all month, it should not be scarce. Thank goodness.
I'd love a big Creator swing ship for my fairground!
Love that big CONFIDENTIAL watermark on the DuckTales BrickHeadz

They are indeed selling the set. $30 normally.

The counterargument to that is that any sale of "pride-specific products" during Pride Month is for the sake of maximizing profits (which it is, but that doesn't mean they don't care either), and that any advertising is merely there to entice people to buy it. Personally, I think intention is the only thing that truly matters at the end of the day, for anything.

Wait - is this set going to be available for purchase? I would much prefer that, as the only Ninjago set I have any interest in is the Gardens. I feel like I'll be able to get better value elsewhere then an opportunity to get a $10 coupon with a $400 set...
I’m a bit underwhelmed by these offers tbh. Guess I’ll be waiting to put down the cash on the Daily Bugle until some other promotions strike my fancy.
Wish they would do anniversary stuff for Bionicle, be a lot more interesting to get then Ninjago honestly.

My thoughts exactly. May was a let down, so is June. Guess I’ll keep saving.
As long as 40490 is all three BrickHeadz for $10, I'm ok with the purchase-with-purchase deal. As someone else said above, maybe this will keep it from going out of stock so quickly to those who aren't specifically interested in getting it, and it's a great discount for those who do want it. I'm not happy about this being an 'in-store only' deal, though. I hope, at the very least, this set is available for direct purchase online at a normal retail price, if not eventually offered in a similar discount deal.
No interest in Ninjago, Minions or the square wheel arched Elva, but the Swing Boat looks quite interesting.
I don't really care about Brickheadz but I do think it's a bit gross that you have to pay $85 just to have the opportunity to buy them. They are definitely more substantial than a typical GWP, but I think they should really have just been a regular set. I also find it kind of strange they're doing this now considering the sets don't release until August in the US.

To tide us over. Also, you can buy it for $30 MSRP.
The Brickheadz being a "purchase with purchase" annoys me greatly for a few reasons:
1. I already own every Ninjago set that is currently available to purchase, and no new sets are being released June 1st in North America (they're supposed to come out August 1st here).
2. Can I buy it outright? Probably not.
Ugh. Looks like I'm going to have to buy some duplicate set or two, and then sell it/them on the second hand market, probably at a loss, just to own these Brickheadz for my BH Collection.
I don't mind the PWP, especially since you can get it for full price without the promotion. What I DO have a problem with is them making it in-store only. They have been having in-store only promotions for the last 6 months as stores have started to open back up, and I find that pretty shocking and infuriating for a brand that clearly wants to be as socially conscious as LEGO to be running in-store ONLY promotions while we are STILL in the middle of a pandemic. Once we reach critical mass of vaccination and the pandemic is over, fine. But to keep running those kinds of promotions in the meantime is just irresponsible.

How do you know they are selling it separately? Just because they list the "ARV" as $29.99 doesn't mean you can buy it. It's an "approximate retail value", and every promotional item gets one.
As a reward for spending money... you get the option to spend more money! What a deal!

I understand what you're saying, but they've been running in-store only promotions for as long as I can remember, and its primarily to keep site traffic down and spread out the distribution of sales. Far from the only company to do so too.
Also slight side note, but I doubt we ever reach critical mass vaccination. At this point you're either vaccinated or you don't want to be and after the few who fall in between are vaccinated that'll be that.
You'll be able to buy it (online, even) for $30. Fear not.

You're right, I got two similar things mixed up again. This is the type of stuff that happens when you're on under four hours of sleep lol. Regardless, I'm still sticking with my guess that it will be retail though. And even if they aren't, I agree with the others that the experiment of "GWP having to be bought" is at least worth a shot with regards to the short supply they have for those sets, for now.

Don’t believe so, in the text it says each customer can buy on of the brickheadz, and it also looks as each has their own number

Numbers for the Brickheadz are standard. For example, Batman was 1 . The recent Easter Sheep was 100 . It's just counting up. I don't know what text you're looking at, but we have pictures of the box. I guarantee you it's a triple figure set.
PWP is a great idea, and should make items available for those who actually wants them.
My pessimistic side can't help but wonder if this isn't the last Nya set we'll ever get...
Am I the only one who finds it somewhat misleading that the Swing Ride promotion runs June 21-30, but they illustrate it on the calendar for the dates of June 7-11? Is this common practice on the store calendars.
The Swing Ride picture is a bit small but I think I like it. I always have a few items on my wishlist of high enough price that I can easily get that free gift when the time comes.
First there was GWP.
Then came the Ulysses as VIP points with purchase.
Now there's purchase with purchase.
What's next? Purchase but don't get a set in return?
What a stupid idea. The only proper way to show appreciation to customers is with a real GWP. And by that I mean not even one that requires VIP points and a second purchase in order to redeem it.
Honestly, LEGO has really gone down the drain recently. Hardly any news that doesn't leave a bad aftertaste in one's mouth.
On the plus side, Amazon now throws the Vidiyo Beatboxes out at around 8 to 8.50 Euro each instead of 20, so that's kind of nice for people who are interested in the figures, tiles and brightly coloured pieces.
I've spent quite a bit on sets over the last few months catching up on other purchases, so I'm not disappointed that none of these June offers appeal to me. Happy to sit this month out and see what July/August has to offer...if anything.
Why hasn’t the daily bugle released for VIP’s yet?
Will we be able to get the mclaren elva as a polybag separate at like target?

They always have their own number, double and triple packs. The box shows all three in this case anyway

Vidiyo must be more popular in the US than other places because I have not seen any of them on sale, anywhere.
Is there any information on availability of the Ninjago Brickheadz outside of the US? We only have Lego Certified Stores in Australia and there are not that many, certainly not one I can get to. So if you are not fortunately enough to be able to get to a store or have none in your country, will the promotion be online or is it a US promo only? We've had the same Dots photo cube all month for the second time this year......yay........so am not holding my breath that any of these promos will show up in Australia :(

@TheBrickGuru24 :
Wait, the Easter sheep was No.100? What happened to that vote that inevitably went to Star Wars?
^ no. 150, I believe
I wont be par taking in any lego offers they r bad value for money considering I'm saving between 40% and 50% from purchases on Amazon and other retailers. The VIP scheme has been infiltrated by Scalpers by the looks of the amount of Gold VIP coins available on Ebay, and its just a con I gonna spend my £200 worth of points and never purchase anything direct from them again, this whole VIP scheme has really made me realise how little Lego cares about loyal customers. I'm even buying sets from Cobi now as some of the detail and range is superb, they just haven't got there with the minifigures yet.
PWP just feels insulting to me. "Spend some money on LEGO, and we'll "let" you spend even more!" Mathematically, it's a good deal, $20 off a $30 set if you spend $85, but it just rubs me the wrong way. Plus, the summer Ninjago wave isn't until August here, and I already have all of the current Ninjago sets that appeal to me.
I don't mind the PWP but I do hate the fact that I have to go to the store. There are a lot of people that aren't near a store and if it isn't available to buy at retail than they would have to get them through scalpers.
I'm planning to buy the Ninjago City Gardens come June and since that has been out of stock for ages on Lego Shop I'll have to go into the store to get it, which is a perfect opportunity to get the brickheads for the extra $10.

She will not be the only one.
I get to be doubly upset, I don't collect Ninjago but I do collect Brickheadz, so this really sucks for me. But, on top of that, the nearest 'store' to me is some 150+ miles one way. So even if I wanted it, I would have to make a 300 mile round trip to 'maybe' get one assuming that they actually have one available when I get there.
Makes me not want to collect at all some days. :(
@SteveG:
It sounds like people think you can just buy them at full price, rather than relying on the PWP promo. If that’s true, they should be available on LEGO.com.
Any word on whether the Brickheadz offer will be coming to the UK?
I really hate that they do this country based segmentation on these collectable series :(
