LEGO teases something
Posted by Huw,LEGO has posted a short video on Twitter that teases something that's being announced on 26th June.
Normally when we see things like this we have some idea what it is but this time I don't have a clue.
All I can suggest is that it relates to a lighting system that was teased at LEGO World Copenhagen last February.
View the video after the break then let us know what you think it could be.
Big announcement coming soon ?? It's ON! pic.twitter.com/n53RQKoEq1

And we are supposed to speculate about it FOR A WHOLE MONTH???
They figured out how to cram an entire, functional Simon Says into a standard 2x2 brick!
The animation feels very 80s?
That's all I got.

and it glitches into an alternate reality every few seconds!
It's obviously holographic lego. Why make ABS blocks when you can charge the same for a virtual building experience? Save the environment and appeal to the mobile phone crowd in one announcement!!!! Just joking (I hope!)
If they bring out good lights, it would be great. Maybe the bought i-brix... Which I still have not received so many years later... The joy of Kickstarters.
if it is...I bet the lighting for new / old modulars will be on par with their current prices :D

Maybe it's connected to that Stranger Things tease from nearly a month ago? God, I really hope they follow up on that.

I know what you mean, I'm still waiting on Psychonauts 2!!! Release date, Fall 2018. But its finally ready 3 years late.
If it's a BIG announcement, must be a disco light dance floor for that dancing Vidiyo Llama , I mean.. what could possibly be bigger than that...
I think it's some light-up bricks, that was just a two-second assumtion though

Same here! I don't think that's actually gonna happen so we just lost our money.

TRON sets based on the first movie? That would be so very awesome!
Color me intrigued, I look forward to being enlightened.
When I saw this on Facebook, people were leaving comments saying that it has to do with "Stranger Things". I don't know how this would relate to that show. (Then again, I've never watched it.)
obviously lego luke skywalker is getting added to Fortnite
I recognize that as a company, Lego needs to continue to press on with new releases, etc. But please get your house in order and fulfill your open orders and get your website sorted. *Rant over*
It has a Tron vibe to it. Which would be awesome.

Lol, the animation reminded me of something but I couldn’t figure out what. They actually have puzzles based on Simon Says in some of the LEGO video games (like the Indy and Harry Potter ones).
I couldn’t tell what the announcement was at first, I thought this was another Vidiyo-type collaboration but it’s much more likely that it’s light bricks. These are gonna cost a heck of a lot but I’d be willing to pay more if it means quality. In any case, I feel like I’m a simpler person who’d just shine a flashlight on existing pieces and pretend they’re glowing.
Although I'd be over the moon for another Stranger Things set, this feels more Tron-ish. But Stranger Things is coming out this year, Tron is probably not.
Vidiyo goes Synthwave with the reactivation of retired 80's molds.
Over a year ago there was a poll asking people several things and one was if they would like light kits for Lego sets, I do remember hearing something that Lego was going to release light kits for several sets, however that deal seemed to not happen. The deal ended up falling through because of the third party involved in the manufacturing process or something to that effect. I also heard that they were not giving up, so maybe they finally hammered out a deal with someone to finally produce these kits.
I'm so damn tired of teaser culture.

Adults Welcome.
Ugh!! Stop teasing things LEGO! My budget was blown months ago and all you're doing is showing how weak I am... Whatever... I'll take 2.
More LEGO Light Bricks would be very welcome!
this is generally hilarious!!!
I wonder if the Vidiyo Llama is related to the WinAmp Llama?
My guess would be LEGO lighting kits. Wish they'd make a 2x4 brick that could record and playback a bit of audio.
I agree. "It's On" seems like a hint to me.
Please don’t be another stupid collab.

In the show a set of fairy lights are used to communicate with an alternate dimension known as the upside down (hence the original Lego set name). With season 4 being released later this year, the tease from last month, the 80s feel and the reality glitch affects, I could definitely see this being another stranger things set, but the problem is is that we have already gotten the buyers house, where the fairy lights where from. So what does this mean? I’m really hoping for a Hawkins lab tbh.

If we get more Stranger Things sets, which seems likely at this point, I hope for Starcourt Mall. The bright neon lights from Lego's teaser makes me hope, especially with the other teaser they made. My wallet has the opposite reaction, of course, but my desire to get a Steve Harrington minifigure overpowers that logic.
Perhaps it's as simple as going to announce they've replaced the lightbulb in the warehouse where they keep all the VIP Rewards and Black Card freebie sets..... and they've used a Philips Hue colour-changing bulb hence the teaser.
Maybe an announcement about the implementation of bright colors in the next series of black box art design ... O_o
I'm not interested in teasers. Show me the final product or leave me alone.
Especially can't stand LEGO teasers, because every one of them over the last few years disappointed me when the final reveal happened.
If you build up tension, be sure to follow it up with something that lives up to the hype. Nothing LEGO revealed over the past two years or so after doing some teaser before got me to buy the product.
Better do something like the cool "Everyone is awesome" set. No teaser, just a direct full reveal, bam, in your face!
Clearly following the positive feedback from the announcement of 31203, Lego have decided to push ahead with version 2, which replaces the sea tiles with flashing led bulbs.
A Stranger Things set that uses coloured lights (the first of many lit kits)
Whatever this is teasing I’m keen to see it, hopefully it’s those official light kits they were talking about. Really want to see what kind of lighting solutions they’re coming up with.
LEGO is finally celebrating their biggest fans birthday. Yep, June 26th is my birthday.
Not related but I had to say it because I am so very happy to see this development:
In the set "Warsaw brand store opening set" 6384342-1, there are mixel towball elements in black! (the shoulders)
Up until recently, these parts were only available in light and dark blueish gray - and were most of the time a serious eyesore on many otherwise very nice model. If we start having these pieces in other colours, that should improve the aesthetic of many models in the future.
My initial thought was Stranger Things with the 80s neon feel. But more I look, perhaps it is a light kit.
Considering how expensive some light kits can be and then I have to hide wires in a set, a Lego sold kit might actually be cheaper. Or at the least close to it, and make a good profit.
This teaser gave me some serious flashbacks of "9V electric" and "light & sound" sets like 846 : Lighting Set, 9V , 6484 F1 Hauler, 6482 : Rescue Helicopter, etc.
The 2x4 plate Part 4757, for example, if larger could be built into the structure, just like before.
We could *literally* build the wiring into the walls.
Maybe I'm reading to much into this, but I hope not.
Looks like maybe it has a clear stud tops and then the sides of the stud are regular non transparent but still shows some bleed through. Or maybe I am looking at the image in too discerning and eye.
If this is an official light brick in official sets then I might get a few for the 2017 UCS Millennium Falcon, for the Dayli Bugle and possible more.
I would anticipate a regular 2x2 light brick, more versatile than the ones we have now which require pressure to be applied to create a circuit, so this one could have some kind of simple on/off system. Possibly even just pressing down on the studs turns it on or off. If it’s more of a set of trailing cables then I hope it’s more usable than the Power Functions lighting. With such a big potential announcement I rather suspect this could be a whole sub branded theme for TLG with a variety of kits, though whether they’re designed as generic kits or set specific ones remains to be seen.
I have no idea why people think this teaser relates to Stranger Things, even if TLG were going to do more Stranger things products, this isn’t the teaser for them.
I think that it's Starcourt Mall from Stranger Things! The animation looks very 80's and the neon lights!

Lost my money there to. Gave up on that project actually producing anything.
It's clearly another app no one needs: Look at your set through the app and see it lit up. Works only with latest iFone.
If this is lighting related, we better also be getting trans-red and trans-green along with that orange light-blue, dark-pink and yellow.
Or maybe this is UV blacklight reactive bricks?

Is "teaser culture" a… thing?
I mean, from my perspective as a 30-year-old AFOL (which I know is still considerably younger than some of y'all), LEGO teasers don't really strike me as anything new. The main difference I see is that the teasers 20 or so ago were usually in print formats like magazines or catalogs, rather than online.
A couple examples that spring to mind are the Life on Mars "sneak preview poster" from the November-December 2000 issue of LEGO Mania Magazine ( http://www.miniland.nl/LEGOclub/lego%20mania%20magazine%20nov%20dec%202000.htm ) and the U.F.O. teaser from the Dutch 1997 brand catalog ( https://worldbricks.com/en/catalog-year/1990/catalogs-1997.raw?task=download&fid=2932 )

It's tricky for me to tell right now if those are actually black or just a poorly lit render that makes it tricky to differentiate between Black and Dark Stone Grey parts. I feel like we've seen something like that happen before that briefly misled some of us into thinking we'd be getting a new recolor.
But you're right that it will be very exciting if it is in fact a new recolor for those parts. LEGO designer Mark Stafford previously shared on Reddit ( https://www.reddit.com/r/lego/comments/7xwik2/stitch_achieved_10000_supporters/ducvgql/ ) that the limited colors of Ø5.9mm ball cup pieces are because it's a connection point with extremely precise tolerances even compared to other LEGO parts, so any recolors would need to be tested all over again to ensure that the different dyes don't compromise their structural integrity, longevity, or coefficient of friction.
I know some folks might be skeptical about this, but as a Bionicle fan, I am all too familiar with how many different iterations of the Ø10.2mm ball cup it took for LEGO to come up with a design that wasn't prone to either losing most of its friction after just a few years of normal use, or breaking just from connecting or disconnecting them from other parts. So it doesn't surprise me one bit that an even smaller joint would have be even less forgiving towards small changes in its design or material.
Gabbo! GABBO! GABBO!!!

What we want: an official lighting system
What it will be: Vidyo videos
It's their own version of a lighting system.
So many small companies beat them to the punch so they had to do this.
Hopefully not too expensive and easy to set up.
So far they got one for the Ford Mustang (15 LED lights and 2 expansion boards), The Tree-house (32 LED lights, 12 expansion boards), Hogwart's Castle (74 LED's, 11 boards), and Andrea's Pool Party (24 LED's and 8 boards).
Too late Lego if it is a lighting system, I've already got one, it's called Auduino and it will probably still be cheaper and have more features than Lego's version.
This will be cool for younger fans though if it is a lighting system.
Only one month away seems really close, as i'll still be waiting for Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga OVER A YEAR AFTER ITS ORIGINAL RELEASE DATE
> The animation feels very 80s
I, for one, am so happy the 80s are back in full force. Height of human existence, that decade.
It looks like something we recorded on a VHS cassette in the 80's. It makes me think of 'Stranger Things'.

I currently have a large number of Light My Brick kits for my Winter Village. Will be interesting to see if Lego brings out products to compete with this. The light kits Can be fiddly with all the wiring and small lights, so would be good if the lights were incorporated in to the bricks.

After seeing your comment and rewatching the video. I think your right.
Judging by the video, I think Lego is going to try to combine their building bricks with some sort of digital platform that is full of technical glitches.
If it is a lightning system then maybe Lego will start doing train stuff like in the 80s- level crossing with working lights and barriers. Would be great.

My only source of information regarding LEGO is Brickset (and LEGO newsletters of course).
Not partaking in fluff like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and all other such useless time-wasting, privacy-invading tat is bliss.
It may be related to the Daft Punk set which won the contest "Music to our ears!" one year ago:
https://ideas.lego.com/challenges/8e778633-2524-42d0-b3f8-3b1921b2dbdc/application/49e5f2d1-c80e-4c52-a1a6-a9cb8123ec6c
Maybe Lego created a new light brick to improve the original effect...
the Dimensions subreddit speculated that it could be a new Dimensions game with a tenuous link: https://www.reddit.com/r/Legodimensions/comments/nn51fy/its_happening_lego_has_officially_teased_a_sequel/ - they're a dedicated lot over there ;o)

I hope not. Dimensions was great while it lasted, but I think the way that they mention “ON” suggests lighting, like an on/off switch.

And yet you clicked on a story that begins--in the preview--with "LEGO has posted a short video on Twitter that teases something" only to comment how much you hate teasers and Twitter.
Just because the Brickset team didn't post about the 14 teasers for Everyone is Awesome doesn't mean they didn't exist--and that's clearly for the best given how much you complain about almost every single thing Lego does.
Why hasn’t anyone mentioned the obvious yet? Lego is coming out with a new theme based on neon lights allowing you to faithfully recreate a Budweiser or Miiler Lite sign to hang in your bar. And the best part, since it is part of the new 21+ line, no more colorful set on a black box, it will just be a solid black box (think Spinal Tap’s Smell the Glove album cover).
My guess is that they want to tap into the "light my builds" market and make their own lighting accessory kits, since they know that there are so many companies out there who make lighting packs to go with our sets.
@Aanchir:
Are you kidding? Deadpool 2 was releasing teasers to announce the impending release of teaser trailers...not even full trailers, but just a quick hint of a taste. Movies are rated based on how many times their trailers are viewed in general, or within the first 24 hours of being released.
I literally just bought my first light set for the Treehouse ! So now I have to wait before building it and using the set to see what Lego comes up with as a comparison.
Either way if it is lighting sets, I am very excited. I wouldn't put lights on all my sets (as I have seen some YT's do), but on select sets, absolutely ! Hopefully they won't be a Lego exclusive, and go to retail so we can take advantage of discounts. The prices need to be lower.

@AustinPowers never denied the 40516 teasers existing, he was merely unaware of them. He wasn't attacking you, the unpleasant words in the second comment were his rather opinionated reason of why he missed those teasers. Putting it more politely, he was revealing that he doesn't follow social media and thus missed the teasers. And viewing and commenting on the article might have been primarily to say he is jaded of teasers, but at least he praised the lack of teasers for 40516 Everyone is Awesome (or so he thought) giving it as an example of what he would appreciate instead.
There is no reason to be mean in this situation, unless you really feel like arguing over social media in a LEGO comments section (where its not going to be allowed), or have a chip on your shoulder against AustinPowers because you think he complains too much.
The twirling, flashing and jumping reminds me of Pokemon Go!

Pretty sure it’s 2 studs wide (look at the hands) so probably just a regular black ball joint.
@Norikins : thank you very much.
Indeed, as I don't follow social media I wasn't aware that the Everyone is awesome set had been teasered before. Mybad.
I also admit that I complain quite often about LEGO, or rather TLG, because while I love the product itself, TLG offers many reasons to complain in recent years imho.
But I also had many reasons to be happy about new sets and in those cases I don't complain at all.
Members like @FuddRuckus apparently only see my complaints plus might take some general criticisms of mine as personal attacks, which they are never meant to be.
We are a great community of brick building fans, there is no reason to attack one another, even if we feel differently about certain subjects.
@AustinPowers:
But many of the things you do complain about are very popular with the masses, so it's not even that they "offer many reasons". The vast majority of your complaints seem to start with, "Because this isn't popular in Germany...." If it's not popular in Germany, but a privately-owned company has managed to vault past both Mattel and Hasbro to become the top toy manufacturer in the world without any outside investment, while also regularly appearing towards the top of the "most trusted companies" list, it's a pretty clear indicator that they're now doing things better than ever before.
Maybe they are going to start making bricks in all the current colors, not just some of the colors. One can wish.
Got burned on the ibrix, so lighted bricks would be great. But something that big I feel would have a huge preview campaign, not just a teaser video. Hopefully I am wrong though.
Most likely it is a release of a new set, maybe one of the ideas sets. I've lost track on which ones have not been produced yet.
It could easily be a new orginal theme to replace Hidden Side!
@JCouss:
It’s Donkey Kong! Well, not actual Donkey Kong. More something _like_ Donkey Kong.
@HOBBES:
On both arms there are parts that are a lighter shade of black than the black used for the rest of the shirt. I agree with @Aanchir (but perhaps a bit more confidently) that these are probably just poorly lit dark-bley.
@Aanchir:
It’s worth noting that it’s not the towballs that are the problem, as they have appeared in multiple parts in a range of colors, even before the Mixel theme was proposed. The towballs also get subjected to compression force, which ABS has no problem handling. It’s the sockets, which have to withstand pressure pushing out, plus the added stress of being repeatedly snapped together and pulled apart. Even a minor tweak to the plastic could mean disaster.

"I can't stand teasers, Lego's are always disappointing, they should do more things like XYZ that didn't get any teasers!"
"Actually XYZ got 14 teasers"
"Well, uh, it's uh, social media doesn't count"
How can you possibly claim that all of Lego's teasers are disappointing if you clearly do not see even half of them? Brickset isn't a terrible source by any means, but they don't track 100% of Lego-related content and if you're only basing your opinions on information from a single website then you are going to be incorrect.
It's like if I said that I couldn't stand Christopher Nolan's movie trailers, and I only ever watched them in heavily compressed Youtube videos with no sound. Your stance isn't justifiable because you are choosing to ignore the information
@BrickToBasics : you misunderstood. I didn't mean the teasers themselves are disappointing. Like you said, I never saw the actual teasers (unless they were accessible via Brickset), I only read about them here.
I meant I was disappointed by the final products associated with the teasers, as for me none of them managed to meet the expectations drummed up by the supposed hype before.
That's why I said I thought the Everyone is awesome set was such a welcome difference. I simply didn't know it had been teasered before. When I saw it here on Brickset for the first time I was blown away by it. I had never heard or seen any mention of it before, so it came as a very pleasant surprise and I therefore thought that was the way LEGO should go about announcing new sets.
And @PurpleDave: of course my complaints come from a German perspective. Isn't that natural? Wouldn't it be natural too if it were the other way around, i.e. if LEGO's products were tailored mainly to German tastes and you would feel like I feel and would hence complain.
It might well be that we are the "odd one out", but currently over here LEGO definitely is far from as popular as it was until the turn of the Millennium, or even as ten years ago. The past few years have seen a massive shift that surprised even me, and there is no sign of it changing again.

There's rather a lot of unfortunate backers in this thread apparently.
@Lukasz64
A lightning system would be really cool indeed ;-)
Generally on this topic: maybe there will be really spectacular teaser in a month, one that will make us go like: wow, now I really don't have a clue what they're up to :-S
My guess it's the roll out of lighting kits with a Stranger Things vignette to kick it off.
