Disappointed that they didn’t use the new long hilt piece for Maul’s saber. Oh well, fantastic sets otherwise!

By in United Kingdom,

The gap on the Mandalorian Starfighter's cockpit is absolutely hideous, the designer should have done so much better there.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It looks like Ahsoka is putting Darth Maul in the refrigerator.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Speaking of edits to lightsabers, when will we get 3L bar instead of a 4L bar for Ahsoka's dual lightsabers, or Yoda's saber?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I can already see the eBay prices for Bo-Katan and Gar Saxon ending up being as much as the set itself

Gravatar
By in United States,

Those figs look beautiful, I will definitely be ordering that one! Though I wish they could have made the underside of the wings a bit prettier

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The CGI renders of the Mandalorians looks a bit ropy: too much texture on the surfaces which makes the printing look poor.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Seems like an unfortunately high number of stickers for such a small set!

By in United Kingdom,

As much as I appreciate the new mould for Gar Saxon’s helmet, comparison with images from TCW S7 shows just how much longer those horns needed to be. It’s almost as if they want to use the same helmet for the Armourer from the Mandalorian at some point in the future and instead of getting the length right for either character they went for a halfway house that’s not really accurate to any source material. Still, at least the horns weren’t printed on but I’d argue that once again TLG has gone for the bare minimum option. Would two moulds really be that bad when they do new moulds for CMFs all the time? Or if it’s not going to be reused for the Armourer, why not just get it right?

Duel on Madalore could be so much better, with the inclusion of rotating bases of Starkiller and Mustafar duel sets. Still, grab S7 Maul and Ahsoka for $20 is hard to pass.

I must say, I ‘m not sure a larger hilt piece would work. I appreciate that Darth Maul’s lightsaber is larger in the movies, but the LEGO dual ended lightsaber already looks huge in the hand of a minifigure. I suspect a longer hilt would make the weapon about the same size as Rey’s staff. I haven’t seen the new piece in person so I could be wrong, but I suspect it would make the lightsaber look far too large in the hands of a minifigure.

She has white sabers after the Clone Wars, but S7 they're blue.

That said, if we get a Mandalorian Ahsoka (or one from her solo series), I certainly hope they'll give us white sabers.

In the 7th season of the Clone Wars Ahsoka has blue lightsabers.

She doesn't get white Lightsabres until her appearance in Rebels (and later The Mandalorian). They're green initially (although her shorter offhand sabre is slightly more yellow), then blue pretty much exclusively for the Siege of Mandalore. The book 'Ashoka' explains how she ends up with white ones.

By in Puerto Rico,

Exited child scream in play, No Katan includes the hair piece and her face print looks much better than in unofficial pictures. The Gauntlet and Duel on Mandalore fit with last year AAT (the sole 332nd Trooper) and the famous 501st Legion Pack as well that the shuttle is perfect for the other Mandalorian sets released, man I better save up for August.
Edit: Maul cage has a transparent opening!!!! It's not a sticker!!!!

I'll Grab the Ahsoka vs Darth Maul set, mostly for the Minifigs though!

On Instagram there's two or three more to be released one has Moff Gideon in it and it looks huge!!

i'm glad the front of the sarcophagus is a clear printed panel, i was worried it'd be solid. (they should have done the same thing for he bad batch shuttles canopy...)

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I might go for both of them:

Ashoka is missing from my Star Wars minifigures (and I like her, but the price for her Starfighter is insane).

Not sure about the Mandalorian fighter, but as I have Pre Vizla's Mandalorian Starfighter, this could be a nice companion. Assuming the USD price as posted translates into Euros 1 vs 1 or close to it, the price does not seem too bad for a Star Wars set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

did you see the print turned sideways on the clear panel in one of the pics for the maul/Ashoka duel? wierd.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hmm, I would be interested in the first one, but why would I want some orange person and some red guy with horns, then a little box and a chair? jk. These sets look pretty good. the Mandalorian Star Fighter looks VERY good except for the gap in the windsheild. Lego fails not very often at aircraft and that ship is proof of that. good sets but might not buy them because I wanna buy two of the imperial troop transports and Moff Gideons cruiser.

Gravatar
By in United States,

These both look amazing, definite purchases from me! Tha throne room is everything I was hoping for, and should look brilliant with some walls added. Only thing I'm not sold on is Bo's hairpiece. The bangs look really awkward, and I think the friends style Bob would be a better fit. Pity it hasn't come in Orange yet. The rest of the minigures look great though! Does anyone recognize who the loyalist is based off of? I don't recall any with that design from the show. Also it looks like Saxon doesn't come with hair, hopefully he at least has a face print since he is shown helmet less often.

An issue is probably how pointy these horns are and that they didn't want to switch to rubber material for a Mando helmet.

I can't imagine them pulling such bull since they have realized the need for accurate molds and parts the past decade. They should know that especially with these arguably main characters they should be making accurate parts like they did for the Knights of Ren that are basically on the same level.

Then again, Saxon doesn't have a 3 pronged jetpack and Mando himself still has no middle stripe molded...
I see that there will still be a need for custom Mando helmets. Especially when Lego now randomly molds details on the sides for the horned helmet which makes the detail missing on the regular mold really apparent.

Ahsoka too has too long head tendrils. They should have designed a new part last year for her Season 3-7 look. They could even have reused it for Mando, the Shaak Ti part is just sooo big.

@captaincassianandor:
As I said in the other thread, standard lightsaber hilt, matching telescope (this does limit your color options quite a bit), and two 3L blades. 4L is way too long to begin with, and looks like they were trying to out-Hasbro Hasbro’s first batch of action figures where a standard lightsaber is as long as the person wielding it is tall.

Anyways, this build is about the same length as the lightsaber they show Maul with here, BUT, he can hold it in a 2-handed grip. I came up with this back when they made Santa Maul and I realized they made 3L blades in trans-red and trans-bright green (perfect for Christmas, and the green is also a better match than TNG).

Gravatar
By in United States,

I really just want the figures in each of these sets. Buying Bo, Gar, and the loyalist on secondary is probably going to be unreasonably expensive relative to the set cost. Ugh

I think if they used the new hilt, with 3L bars instead of 4L, it would be a good length. If I remember my specs correctly, the blades are slightly shorter on saber staffs.

Duel on Mandalore reminds me of 79005 with the two important figures and small throne build. Looking at the price of the two shows 75310 to be a little expensive for what it is though

I was really hoping that they would make a new headpiece for Ahsoka this time around, the same for Bo-Katan. The ones they used are pretty unfitting. Oh well.

Bo Katan official Lego minifig and helmet ! That makes my day !

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Oof £18 for two (admittedly really nice) minifigs, a chair and a box is not looking like value for money in my opinion. The fighter just looks awkward to me, I'm not familiar with it from the tv shows, but it looks really hard to display with the wings "up". In its landing mode the undersides of the plates looks very messy. In "flat" mode it seems too flat and lacks any sort of definition.

I'm clearly an outlier based on a read of the comments, but I honestly can't see the appeal of these, outside of the figures.

Except 79005 was more robust and half the price. It also offered a more complex play feature with 30 less pieces. But I guess Lego knows that a $20 price tag won’t stop anyone from buying this set, they know it contains the two characters that every Star Wars fan is willing to overpay for.

I’m sure these sets will sell out instantly when released just as the 501st and Ahsoka AAT did, but I got both of those when they went on sale for the holidays, so I’ll be doing the same with these two. Unless there is an awesome GWP, no need to pay full price.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Duel on Mandalore could easily be worth $20 if the windows and sarcophagus pieces were printed. That's really a big bummer! And, as much as I love the fighter…the underside and build are really strange. I wonder if you could make one really good one if you buy two?

" [...]. Would two moulds really be that bad when they do new moulds for CMFs all the time? [...] "

CMFs are kinda their own thing, as far as I'm aware. They are (or at least were) made pretty much separately from other Lego production, and with their comparatively short shelf lives, I assume each series is produced all at once. Storing parts during production and packaging (a major cost factor for introducing new parts) is probably less of an issue for them.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

That Duel on Mandalore set is shocking for the price.

I wonder how long before these £17.99 Star Wars sets contain one minifigure and a single brick...

Gravatar
By in United States,

That hair piece is great for Bo - Katan, but I would have gone with the older hair piece that was used for minifigs like Luke from the first UCS Death Star, since it is flatter.

They really went full mask-off with the price of that Maul/Ahsoka set, huh? Not even pretending they arent just price-gouging because they know the minifigs are highly desirable. I wouldnt pay $20 AUD for a set that size, much less $20 USD. Hopefully it at least gets a regular retail release so maybe it'll see some discounts, because the AAT with Ahsoka *didnt* here in Australia, and I can only think of one reason why...

Gravatar

Both look good to me. I’ll take Maul vs Ahsoka any day. The fighter is also impressive for the figures.

@ @Chemistry2101:
CMF is its own beast. They get unprecedented leeway to make new molds for the CMF theme, and for a long time any other theme that wanted to make use of those molds still had to pitch it like an original design, because they still had to cut a second copy of that mold. Things _may_ be a little different now (see below*).

@Anonym:
They do make a ton of molds for minifigs, but there are limits involved. If the parts are going to see a ton of use, even if only across one theme, sure, they'll spring for two molds in many cases. If they're going to make _one_ minifig, it doesn't justify the cost if there's a similar mold they can repurpose. How many other themes have they used the second Ironman helmet for? It's rarely perfect, but it's saved them from having to make several molds that they'd only use once.

@captaincassianandor:
Eh, that thread has reached Lower Daunting status due to the number of comments. It's easy for me to find, because it's my post, so I get to see it with a highlighted background. For anyone else, it's just part of the sea of white.

@FinBrick
Glitter trans-clear? Opalescent trans-clear? Regular trans-clear? With the new plastic, it doesn't sound like it'll be optically clear anyways.

@Rob42:
*CMFs from S1 all the way through HP2 were exclusively made in China. Every single packet listed China as the source of manufacture, and nothing else. This means that for any CMF accessories to make it into other themes, they had to cut a second copy of the mold for use in Europe (hence where there have been so many instances where there were different mold marks). For that reason, any time they wanted to borrow a CMF accessory in to another theme, they had to pitch it to their supervisor like a new element. I attended a session at Brickworld Chicago, which was presented by one of the Friends designers, and she said that hairstyles were the easiest to get approved because they could be used across so many other themes (if multiple themes could use the same part, there was more value in producing a new mold, and the originating theme maybe got a break on calling up a new mold?).

Unikitty was its own special thing, with its own special packet design, and not bearing the CMF logo (but still sold under that header on LEGO.com). And then TLM2 was the first run of the new packet design that continues through today. From then on, production was a worldwide affair. Parts come from "Denmark, Mexico, Hungary, China, and the Czech Republic". This could mean that more general-purpose parts are being made in Europe over China, just so those molds become available for use by other themes without having to jump through so many hoops. What it doesn't change is that CMF still gets to crank out more new molds than the number of minifigs they include in a new wave. Look at Looney Tunes. Every character has an exclusive head mold except Marvin, who has an exclusive helmet mold. Roadrunner also has a new tail and crest, and Speedy has a new tail as well. That's 15 new molds for 12 minifigs. And unless they do a general Looney Tunes theme, Speedy's tail might be the only one of those parts that ever gets reused.

ok the new Mandalorian Fighter has some neat figures, but the ship itself? WOW that looks bad. The original 9525 Mandalorian Fighter absolutely puts this one to shame

All the minifigures look fantastic as always. Duel on Mandalore has a steep Star Wars tax (AKA milk Star Wars fans for more) since it's only two minifigs and completely basic bricks with stickers. I want it but I'll wait 6-9 months until Walmart does a price roll-back to $16. No, $4 never broke the bank but it's the principle of it. ;-)

Kind of wish they had one Mandalorian next to either Ahsoka or Maul (maybe Maul, since the other comes with two Death Watch Mandalorians and Gar Saxon), but definitely awesome! I've been thinking which set I should get this year, and I think my final decision isn't one, but two!

Yes, I'm trying to hone my LEGO addiction by restricting it to one set a year... this didn't help!

Oh dang. The Asoka Darth Maul set was real. It looked like a fan design when I first saw the leaks. It's still cool tho.

Gravatar
By in France,

Fan of the minifigs that are great, but not that much for the fighter. The underside of the wings makes them unfinished to me. I was expecting some improvements compared to the former Mandalorian fighter dated some years ago.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Ahsoka vs. Maul set is something long overdo for the Clone Wars line imo, up to this point we’ve (almost?) exclusively gotten vehicles without significant location builds. Granted, there aren’t a ton of scenes that would justify their own set but I’d be satisfied with more ones like that in the future.

Her lightsabers spend most of The Clone Wars being a greenish-yellow colour. By her duel with Maul on Mandalore (which this set is based on), her lightsabers are blue because Anakin messed with them. She only gets her white sabers after the end of the Clone Wars and the rise of the Empire.

While I would also like a version of her from The Mandalorian season 2 (with her white sabers), it makes no sense whatsoever for that version to be included in this set.

The gap is for Bo-Katan’s arms. Seems to be a case of sacrificing accuracy/aesthetics for play functionality. If I was a kid, I’d want both Mandalorians to fit in the Mandalorian ship

The undersides of wings *never* have detail! I’m not at all upset with Lego for this choice. The wings would be so much thicker, it would reduce the quality of the model.
