One word: Castle

@morvit:
That’s a pretty weird looking castle. I don’t see any horses for the carriage, the keys are all just sitting out in the open where anyone can walk off with them, the wall down one side is low enough to step over, and it kinda looks like they put the smithy in the most protected part.

@PurpleDave
Reading your perfect riposte at three in the morning here, so thank you VERY MUCH for possibly having woken my household with me laughing out loud at "horses for the carriage".

If you change your region to somewhere in Europe, you can see what they currently have limits set at.

I've gotta say, I was stunned to be able to log on a minute before 9 PM (I'm on the West Coast of the United States, so I get to enjoy not having to stay up until midnight for a new set), and just buy a Typewriter (and get a free McLaren Elva) with zero lag and very fast email confirmation after my order. Either there is almost no demand for this (which is a shame but understandable) or LEGO has seriously improved their website.

In Italy:

Price199,99 €
Disponibile ora (now available)
Limite 2

But i'm not interested, i prefer the set that i can play or change, like creator expert modular building, creator 3in1 or Ideas like Barracuda Bay or Blacksmith

@dmikester:
It’s June 16th. This is the only set being launched today (and only for VIP members), the Elva can be purchased at retail (and has been available as a GWP for a few days now), and there’s nothing going on with the VIP Rewards Center. If it was a UCS SW set, there _might_ have been enough demand to cause problems, but even the Discovery only had problems because it launched right on the 1st, when themes get refreshed, and a new coin was up for grabs.

Having battled with the LEGO website during release day for probably about ten or so sets over several years now (I got back into LEGO at the end of 2019 after many years away), it's very notable to me that this is my only release day purchase where I had zero tech issues of any kind. While it's likely that the factors that you listed are a big part of the reason why, it's interesting to consider why LEGO would have released this for VIPs at such a downtime for promotions and other releases; it seems a marked change from their usual strategy, and a welcome one if it results in the smooth experience I had last night.

The five times each year I know to be trouble are January 1st, the May 4th event, Black Friday Preview, Black Friday weekend, and the launch of the second Holiday GWP. Beyond those instances, it’s really a case-by-case basis, but it’s more likely to happen on the 1st of the month (when lots of products are rolled out together) or when a highly desired GWP is up for grabs.

They said that this year they were going to overhaul their system, but no timetable was published. We know they were still nervous in April and May because they pushed back the releases of the Ulysses and 5th coin so they wouldn’t overlap the launch of Discovery or the start of the May 4th promo respectively, but I don’t recall any hiccups on those days. June 1st was a breeze as well. The system did crash on the day the Ulysses was finally released, but it didn’t help that many people were trying to load the site on as many devices as they had available, but the final coin was easy (possibly because they’d already announced they would reissue them later this year). Now that they’re past May 4th, maybe they’ve started making these upgrades so they can be completed before November brings Black Friday.

So, when they do a VIP-only launch of a single non-licensed set that a lot of people have expressed little to no interest, or outright hatred for, I would have been shocked if the servers couldn’t handle the load, and even more surprised if they had turned on the queueing system because they were worried about server load over this set.
