Edinburgh brand store opens tomorrow
Posted by Huw,Scotland's second LEGO store opens its doors tomorrow and there will be several promotions running:
- Free 40145 LEGO Brand Retail Store when you spend over £120, until 4th July.
- From tomorrow until the 27th June, the first 250 people to spend over £75 each day will receive this store associate figure complete with 'LEGO Store Edinburgh' tile.
It's bound to cause a crowd first thing in the morning, which doesn't seem to be a particularly good idea in a pandemic...
It's situated in St James Centre, and it opens at 9am. Will you be visiting?

Tehát head looks creepy..
Can't wait to get this GWP, glad I've been saving for a visit to Edinburgh!
I expect the store to be packed, not only is the LEGO Store opening but the whole shopping centre its in, St James Centre, is opening for the first time tomorrow.
Wish I could go but way far from me.
Wonder which part of the UK will get the next store?
I think there are a couple areas of the UK that could benefit from a new store
- Belfast - No stores in Ireland or Northern Ireland yet, I think Dublin also could do with a store (Ik its not part of the UK)
- Norwich (Chantry Place)
- Peterborough (Queensgate)
- Plymouth (Drakes Circus)
- Aberdeen (Union Square)
Is that a tile on the case? It doesn't look like it to me.
Edinburgh might be a little far for me to road trip to (from Edmonton Canada :P), so I hope the instructions for that buildable figure make it onto Lego.com. Looks like a fun build!
Also for anyone going to the Grand Opening, have fun!! Its always a good an amazing event!
Case closed. The ball joints are not black recolors, but dark bluish gray.
@Alatariel
Yeah, its probably a 1x4x2 panel.
@dontfeedthebrickster, You mean most of the width of one of the largest countries in the world, an ocean, a deadly virus and quarantine requirements are stopping you from attending a LEGO store opening? And you call yourself an AFOL. Shame on you! ;~P
I’m planning on going but I’ll have to leave home early. I haven’t been able to find where the store is in the new centre, I’m a bit concerned it’ll just be a mad dash when the centre doors open and I’ll be running round in circles.
Awesome. Good to have another here in Scotland. I'll probably try and get in there early tomorrow
RIP me with no Lego store closer than a seven hour round trip lol
Nice to see Edinburgh get a store. Wish one would open in Nottingham

Even worse for me, 8.5 hours (though i live in an area with not many people, next town over 10k pop is 135 miles to the south on the highway)

I believe it’s the same base build as the giant man from the civil war airport battle, and Ares from the wonder woman set. So if this set doesn’t end up with instructions, you could use those sets instructions.
@Zander:
Eh, I’ve got at least half a dozen already. Except mine are minifigs. And they’re dressed in British attire, even though they were exclusive to North America. Then again, they’re LEGO Store employees, even though they were also only available on LEGO.com.
@Isabella_and_Lego_Liker:
45 minutes, but the freeway that goes past it is partway through a construction project that’s supposed to run over a decade.
@Cooliocdawg:
Most of it looks similar, but the head and hands are different. The previous heads were never styled like real minifigs heads, but were of comparable size with 2x4x2 half-cylinders for faces. The hands were some sort of Technic part.
I'll go visit eventually but those GWPs aren't anything to rush for imho. I'm surprised it's already opening, I didn't think the new St James Centre was finished rebuilding
Very very long queue outside. Over 300+
We are getting the same figure, but with NYC on it later this month when the newest Lego Store opens on Fifth Avenue/Rockefeller Center.
they still havent done any opening offers for Bristol yet :(
@MrMouth1117
New Rockerfeller store? Is that as well as the store on Rockerfeller plaza, or is it relocating?

Bristol store is a bit of a damp squid. Felt they missed so many opportunities with creating some awesome displays too (such as the suspension bridge), felt like we got some left overs taking up storage space.
It makes me appreciative and thankful that a store opened in my home town of Southampton just 3 months after I emerged from my personal "dark ages"!

The “new” NYC store will open tomorrow as well. It is more like a relocation from the one on Rockefeller Center but the new store is now “on” the expensive 5th Ave at 51st St.

Yes, I also feel that the store opening in Bristol was dull with nothing special going on but the kind staff there told us that this was to avoid crowds gathering which seemed the right thing to do back in December.
Most people are vaccinated now so I suppose it's not too bad to do this in Edinburgh.
They managed the queue and entry to the shop really well. The new shopping centre opening generally didn't seem to have a huge buzz except for the Lego Store, but potentially there was in other areas that I couldn't see. It's a regular workday so I'd expect Saturday to be busier. A lot of press around today as well.
Promotions!
Polybag 40402 was being given out in the queue if you posted a selfie with a brand hashtag. It's two Legoland-style minifigs.
6373620 swing set with purchases over £85, same as currently online.
The Lego Store associate with Edinburgh 2021 case 6384339 is free for the first 250 people making purchases over £75. This is 250 people EACH DAY from today until/including Sunday.
And the single-storey Lego Store 40145 was for purchases over £120 as well.
Also they gave out Lego passports for stamping, which I've never seen before :)

They're calling it a tile but you're right, it's not, it's a panel piece
^ It's unique in yellow, according to Sariel's review of the same figure from the Poland store opening.
@glawie:
They’ve been doing the passports for at least ten years, I think. You guys just switched from EU-colored passports back to the pre-EU British passports color. The trick is, they don’t often promote them. For big events like this, they will. On a daily basis, they don’t see much action, so nobody is likely to mention them if they don’t know you’re from out of town. Ask, and they’ll give you a newpassport (unless they ran out) or a stamp for your own passport in any LEGO Store.
@PurpleDave, I have one of those passports. At first, I would bring it with me to each store I visited but eventually stopped bothering. Mostly, the staff knew what the passport was but didn’t have a stamp, so there was nothing to add. Seemed pointless. It’s possible that I was unlucky with the stores I visited or there are regional differences in stamp availability - I don’t know.
@Zander:
Every store should have their permanent store stamp on hand (though it’s possible that the stamp got lost, or the ink pad dried out and was never replaced). Event stamps are a lot more rare. I think I only managed to get one, which oddly enough was for the anniversary of the mall, not the LEGO Store (they requested a LEGO build, and got the last of three Millennium Falcon sculpture builds). I don’t chase all over the country to get event stamps, and that MF build is the only event they’ve held since the grand opening in 2010, before the passport program started (and last year would have been the store’s 10th anniversary, but...).
I swung by this morning, and agree with posts above. Well managed queue, and the GWP’s already listed. It’s a nice little store. No Monkie Kid sets in stock which was a shame, that’s what I was planning to buy. Probably not great for my wallet having a LEGO store in my home town, but great to have one here. All we need now is an Edinburgh architecture set. Forth Rail Bridge or a Skyline would look great, I think.
Got there early as it's only a couple of miles away and ended up being 3rd in the queue. It's both great but also dangerous to now have a local LEGO store haha. Amy and her staff were great, creating the brilliant LEGO Store experience, most fun I've had since pre-Covid

Thanks for all the info! Yeah, its the good reddish colour of passport like the old UK ones. Neat wee thing :)

Were you one of the 3am folks mentioned in the EEN?
The Czech Republic??!
Most people: planning to visit the new LEGO store
Me: lives on a different continent

Nope, just 6am :) Was also the first local, the 2 in front of me were from Chester and Newcastle respectively

I laughed way to hard at that, when the store opened here, I called in sick- er- took the day off, so I won't push my luck with the boss this time! That's my excuse and i'll stick too it!
@Cooliocdawg
Thank you! I will look into those sets!!

True, very disappointed but also strange. Have a look at this: 6384342
The set is Warsaw seems to have black ball joints which I was very excited about
as this could pave the way for all sorts of recolours (I know, apparently the moulds are different to allow for the required friction and somehow colours plays a role - ???) "

Upon seeing the review by Sariel, the ball joints are also dark blueish grey. Bummer...

Sounds like a really good opening!
to those of you who went, how early did you go? I’m planning to go to the reopening in nyc and should be there about 30 before opening, is that risky?
@jperlman
I went to the Watford opening and got there about 2 hours before opening and was about 5th in the queue. I was in NYC for the Flatiron opening and just wandered in during day 1 and day 2 and managed to get all the relevant offers.

I went to the Leicester Square store on its opening day but didn’t arrive until mid-to-late morning. They could only let a limited number of people in at a time so I wound up queuing for 4.5 hours before being admitted. Longest I’ve ever waited to get into a store.
Was it worth it? Difficult to say. Queuing that long was an experience but there was no particular benefit (to me anyway) of going that day. I have been back since and had to wait 30 minutes or less on later visits, and the experience inside was much the same or even better than on Day 1.

Not the same. Different color.

I was there from about 8.30am yesterday. I went today again around 12.30pm, and was still able to get my hands on the wee person and the store models, although the swing set had ran out. (No scalping - getting a present for family elsewhere.)
But keep in mind that Manhattan alone is 3x the population of Edinburgh, and New York City has more residents than the entirety of Scotland, so it's probably not a good comparison!
