By in United States,

Other than Holiday Mando, Grogu, and the scout trooper, a pretty disappointing calendar.

Especially since the past two years we’ve gotten 0 weapon racks; now we get 3(!) in this one.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

This is not the advent calendar i’m looking for…move along…move along

Gravatar
By in United States,

Lego, if you're reading this, I would absolutely buy a Winter Village Razor Crest.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Holiday jumper The Child is so damn cute :D

Defo getting this calendar just for the little baby. Rest is meh, why another Razor Crest and X-Wing again, only had them last year.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I only want this for the minifigs. Not into the micro build vehicles. Guess I'll wait to find it on sale somewhere.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Lego seemed a little desperate here in material. they put 3 gun racks? crazy. but some of the micro builds are ships that are not very important but are a part of the show for like 3 minutes, I sort of like that. the figure selection is good, but seeing builds being reused and more than 1 gun rack makes it not as desirable as it could be

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Is the stormtrooper's "mouth" thinner and pointier than before?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Maybe too many gun racks, but baby Grogu and the micro ships selection make me want it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Holiday Grogo is the only thing I want.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Normally I pass on these but they've got the kid!

Gravatar
By in United States,

A full speeder! Awesome! Standouts for me are Mando, the hoverpram, speeder, and, my favorite, the cruiser. It does suck that 3 of the days are weapon racks though.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Also, the Razor Crest looks much cuter than last years!

Gravatar
By in United States,

With only 4 traditional minifigs and 7 total figures, this is the least populated Star Wars Advent Calendar ever. I would have really liked at least one more figure in here, like Cobb Vanth, who's already winter-ready with his scarf!

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Kinda wish they'd make a real big build out of those advent calendars, instead of just micro builds. Be it a full scene for Harry Potter, or a battle scene for Star Wars... Or *gasp*, a 200$ box where you slowly build a full modular or winter set...

Gravatar
By in United States,

What ship is that yellow nosed one?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Three weapon racks?
The mini figures are good, but in my opinion the choices of builds could’ve been much better. Maybe they were stretching themselves thin just going off the Mandalorian.

I think I’d rather have a cheaper yearly set. I can barely pull the trigger on a $40 for a set nowadays,. The only Advent Calendar I’ve bought it recent years was the 2020 one after it went on clearance.

Riot Mar's starfighter from The Gunslinger.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm glad Lego went all in on a Mandalorian calendar. As I've never seen the show it's an easy pass. And if you do like the show then it's good the calendar is based on that one show.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'm a Mandalorian fan, and I like this very much.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Suddenly, I want to listen to Xmas music and put up the tree! I will definitely be getting this.

Ooof that’s some deep cuts. I’m sure people would rather have a cable knit sweater Mon Cal minifig instead. AND MAKE IT A CHRISTMAS SWEATER!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Ah Lego Star Wars advent calendar, always at least a year behind on content.

And how many more of that exact X-Wing build will we have to endure?

Gravatar
By in United States,

There is more to Star Wars than The Mandalorian.

I love the show too don’t get me wrong, but…sigh…

I miss the visual genius of George Lucas as the focal point of Star Wars… I honestly do. Let’s sing…”I’ll have a greeeey (and sometimes sand or black or white but mostly greeeeey) Christmas, without you…”

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I like the Mandalorian theming, but this is such a letdown compared to last years, which had appealing, uncommon minifigures and interesting builds.

The least they could have done would be to include more minifigures, especially as the show’s character roster hasn’t yet been satisfactory in LEGO. I’m thinking Kuill, Cobb Vanth, The Client, Moff Gideon, Death Trooper, Luke Skywalker and Doctor Pershing. The figures here are mostly forgettable throwaways.

What's Riot Mar's starfighter from The Gunslinger?

(Only half sarcastic, honestly don't know what the Gunslinger is, and my head is stuff with Star Wars trivia.)

Edit: Oh geez, that's the name of a Mandalorian episode. I've seen them all and still didn't recognize that ship

Gravatar
By in United States,

Every year, I want to like the Star Wars Advent Calendar.
Every year, they make it harder.

THREE weapons racks?
Targets??
Mando's special, exclusive print is...a scarf?
The same X-wing we get every year?
The same interrogation droid?
They finally give us a Lego Baby Yoda pram and it's...meh.

Remember back when the exclusive holiday minifig was a highlight of the year?
Arg, Lego. You're killing me.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

This calendar would have been sick (and much more timely) with a Christmas themed set of Dad Batch and Omega figures as well as their ship in a micro build. And a Clone Shock Trooper with their red stripes seems very Christmassy all on its own. A missed opportunity!

Gravatar
By in United States,

My first time being critical of TLG and of a set here on Brickset. This is a crappy letdown! Saving my money. The micro builds are lame and it has 4 minifigs? You suck! And 3 weapons racks? Barf. I love the show, but this is a joke. Pile of rubbish. One of the worse SW advent calendars.

Gravatar
By in United States,

^ TLG consider droids and grogu as minifigs, so we're getting 6 minifigs here (not that I find that satisfactory either as the anticipation is to have at least 5 traditional minifigs included and maybe a droid).

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

I am better buying bulk Troopers with their weapons on BrickLink to army build.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

They're getting worse and worse. I've got each one since they began back in 2011 so I guess I'm obligated to get this one...

They consider droids and Grogu as figures, not minifigs. But, yes, that's 6 figures (7 if you count the interrogation droid).

Gravatar
By in United States,

Improved printing on Grogu. Previously it was a smaller circle but now there is a larger square.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Only 6 minifigs.
Usually it's 8 - 9.
They should've gotten rid of two weapons racks and include a Kuiil and a female Mandalorian fig.

Gravatar
By in United States,

A Stormtrooper hitting both IG-11 and a target? It’s a Christmas miracle!

Gravatar
By in Spain,

29,99... over priced.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Not one, not two, but three weapon racks! What! I cannot wait to open those doors. ??
Why isn’t IG-11 in brown?

No other Scandinavian country celebrates Christmas quite like the Danes, so I do not understand on they have shied away from the Santa exclusive figure that used to come in these sets all those years ago. Where’s our Leia Mrs. Claus?

Gravatar
By in Mexico,

Merry July 9th, everybody!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Extremely disappointing - only six minifigures in this. 2020's calendar was an all-time high for minifigs. They're the only reason for AFOLs to get these.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

This is not the way.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Holiday Baby Yoda and Mando will make a fine addition to my Hogsmeade winter village.

Gravatar
By in United States,

How festive! Big manly guns, soldiers, and war machines of all kinds. Truly an inspirational representation of the Christmas spirit. It’s easy to see why this violent franchise is such a traditional family gift — I’m getting teary just looking forward to December already.

I find it funny that Lego would choose a ship that had about a minute of screen time before being destroyed. This could have been an opportunity for another minifigure.

They are one year behind with this. So maybe we will get Bad Batch next year. And I guess they wanted to avoid spoilers. Too bad the result is kinda disappointing because of that.

Gravatar

Half of the builds I don't recognize.

Hits:
> Mando print
> Grogu print

Misses:
> IG-11 without bandolier print (make Xmas or like in show)
> Tuskin could have been variant of some sort (print or hands or waist...something)
> Scout Trooper should be Remanent print
> Storm Trooper should be Remanent print or the Blue Xmas Sweater with Imperial Logo they did for Hallmark LEGO Star Wars Ornament or the LEGO Flashlight Key Chain
> 3x Weapons Racks
> Mostly... same old, same old builds...

Redemption:
> Kuiil
> Boba Pre Paint Job

This.

To me this one looks very watered down. Hardly anything exciting, lots of obscure or filler stuff.

Remember when Star Wars advent calendars were filled to the brink with good stuff?

Funny also in the official images to see this little girl playing with the set. She absolutely looks like your typical Star Wars fan... these days. After all, it is Disney now ;-)

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

3 weapon racks. 2 stop signs. Only 6 minifigs. Not a great year. Still gonna get it for Christmas Grogu.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

4 real figures + 2 brickbuilt figs.
Sad to see when most have 6 real figs and there once was one with 8 figures + 3 brickbuilt figs. I loved 75146 , I got that one 12 times because it was a great army builder and had an exclusive TC-14 fig that was useful in-universe, not just a winter themed exiting character.

By brickbuilt figs I mean IG-11, Astromechs and tiny stuff that needs no in-factory assembly like BB-8 and Baby Yoda. In terms of manufacturing these are just normal parts, some with special printing.
Gonks, Battle droids, mouse droids and IT-0s are worth even less, just another minimodel with no prints or pre-assembly from the viewpoint of the manufacturer.

I can understand some extra cost for double molds and the arm prints but when the Lego Star Wars magazine have a Stormtrooper as a regular extra just cut on the size of some mini models instead of halving the important content like that.

Lego had contracts in place that were active beyond 2012, if Disney is the cause of any decision it started either in 2014 when they actually began making new tv/film content that necessitated sets, or in 2018, or 2020. Both of those two years were end dates for Hasbros license and Lego probably had similar end dates in place, just like how 2007 was the end point of the original Prequel era license for both Lego and Hasbro.

Gravatar

Scout Trooper & Tusken - I can use more of those.
Wasn't a fan of The Mandalorian but there's some nice bits from it here

You can buy the Cantina and start building on the December's 6th... if you build a single group of numbered bags each day... you'll be done on the 24th. ??

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I wonder when a Ninjago calendar will be released….

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Wow - the minifig count just keeps dropping year after year. I’ll probably still get for a few of the figs and the the rest just as a parts pack.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I love this.. but I will probably open it all at once just to display the figs and little builds for Christmas! No Christmas Ahsoka or Cara though?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I haven’t followed the advent calendars amazingly closely, but is this one of the first ones not to include a single lightsaber? Was originally going to add Jedi/ Sith then remembered Grogu was there

Gravatar
By in United States,

That mini Razorcrest looks pretty good

Gravatar
By in United States,

What a waste.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

You know what we need? An advent calendar, but its an alternating P1 and P2 clone trooper every day, with a Rex and Cody as the last two minifigs.

Gravatar
By in Finland,

Finally a proper helmet for Mando

Gravatar
By in United States,

My children are very upset that Lego has broke its tradition of always including a battle droid in the Advent calendar. Its a special cause of celebration in our house when the battle droid pops up. I tried to tell them that IG-11 was 2/3 of a battle droid but they're not buying it...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Do I see a nano-scale x-wing or green glow from Moff Gideon's cruiser?

Nobody's wearing the Santa hat this year...

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is a pass for me. I'll pick up the holiday minifigs of Mando and Grogu on BrickLink, since I have almost all of the previous holiday minifigs, but that's it for me.

2015 also didn't have one

Gravatar
By in United States,

That's a pretty nice BOBA FETT'S STARSHIP

Gravatar
By in United States,

Nice Xmas Mando but the rest very underwhelming.
For SW advents...
- 2011 had 8 full proper figs, with a nice Santa Yoda exclusive, 2 weapons racks and even the battle droid wasn't the common one with a blue striping (Pilot Battle Droid).
- 2012 was great with 9 figs, with 2 exclusives (R2 Snowman and Santa Maul), and 2 weapons racks and even the Battle Droid was a Security one with dark red torso.
- 2013 had 9 figs (Santa Jango) and 2 weapons racks.
- 2014 9 figs with great exclusive Darth Santa an R2-Xmas Tree figs. One weapons racks but technically 2 with the hearth w/2 lightsabers mounted.
- 2015 only 7 figs with nice Santa-3PO. I don't count the other two droids since they are brick built (no exclusive mold and/or print on them). 2 weapons racks.
- 2016 9 figs (really nice Abominable Xmas Chewbacca fig), and possibly 10 figs if you count the snow man with white AT helmet). ZERO weapons racks.
- 2017 8 figs with BB-Santa, one weapons rack. I don't count the Luggabeast since it's all brick built.
- 2018 8 figs (including the X-Wing Snowman with printed helmet and face), maybe 9 figs if you want to include the micro Rathtar, only one weapons rack. First time no real Xmas figure but Xmas Moister-Vaporator Tree.
- 2019 9 figs (maybe 10 if you count the brick built Xmas Package GONK Droid), I count the Mynock as a fig since it has molded wings. I didn't count the Mouse Droid. ZERO weapons racks.
- 2020 11 figs, the most ever (I counted the GONK snowman w/top hat but not the all brick built Tauntaun). ZERO weapons racks.
Now 2021...with the last few one to none on weapons racks, it came back with a vengeance.
7 figs (nice Xmas Mando and Grogu) and I counted the IT-0 Interrogation Droid w/syringe but not that little droid for the transport sled. THREE weapons racks and 2 are completely sparse and two target builds. If not for Grogu w/cradle and Mando, this can be considered a dude of a SW Advent.
BUT, your kids will still enjoy opening each one up, each day.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I don't hate this, but admittedly many of the builds are weak sauce.

I think we're increasingly seeing the upper limits of the price-per-brick ratio with these sets. Lego is already straining to keep these things at $40 and the Star Wars theme is wearing out, as is City's. (Although last year's calendar was largely gold, and it helped that it explicitly tied into the animated holiday special.) I wouldn't complain if the SW Calendar retired next year for other themes.

Looking forward to the Marvel one being fully unveiled, hopefully soon? We've now had 3/4 calendars exposed.

I suppose it's to confirm that they are included? And to be used as snowballs, per second picture.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I can't quite decide if I think this Christmas Mando has an exclusive leg print or not. His right thigh looks (I think) different from the thigh print on the recent Tatooine Mando figure (which was effectively season two Mando with the Zero droid panel on his right thigh). Does anyone think this version looks like it has a different thigh print, more like season one post-beskar-upgrade Mando, where his right thigh was a durasteel-beskar looking plate?

LEGO, Just Give Fans What They Want!

While I offer my criticism... I do not want to see this theme canceled from the Advent Calendar range as some have advocated. I think a "Mando" Themed Calendar is a great idea... but where are:

> Kuiil
> Boba Fett (Pre Paint job)
> Cobb Vanth (Pre Paint job
> Dark Trooper

There are so many exciting opportunities available to explore for the future of this product / theme. Since LEGO claims they are so connected to the fanbase... Then why not conduct a Poll (via their own platform or across fan sites, such as Brickset)?

Ideas...

For example, I've advocated directly to LEGO (for years) for a "Ralph McQuarrie" inspired Advent Calendar / CMF / Set Wave (s) which would offer all-new figures, builds that would sell well. Why not offer a "1977 Holiday Special" Inspired Calendar containing the cartoon Boba Fett, Lumpy and gang... this would also sell well.

Communication...

Whomever is managing the lic between LEGO - Disney - Lucasfilm needs to do a much better job at communicating what's happening and when, so that they aren't a year behind the times in releasing relevant figures / builds to properties on screen (small or large). Building on nostalgia such as McQuarrie or 1977 would prevent this as well. With upcoming D+ series to be released, why not do direct tie-ins? It's so easy to have the Calendar support the Waves and D+ series if they simply plan it that way. Or... simply make them XMas focused, like when it all started. I miss the first few years...

Final Thoughts...

I encourage LEGO to build on their success and not repeat the failures of the past. Speaking of, I managed to get the 2019 LEGO Employee Gift Xmas Wing. The set is one of my all-time favourites (awesome Xmas themed vehicle, amazing winter Yoda hut that serves as stand, really neat utility cart)! It included 3 figures, 1 exclusive, 1 sorta exclusive and the only miss was not having printed R2 in red / green. Why not release a similar type of build, each Black Friday and have the Advent Calendar tie into that set? Fans and families would gobble-up a holiday feast like this...

A lot of your post seems to be advocating for what "you" want and assuming it's a broad representation of what "the fans" want. Remember, Lego works to serve a broad market based on what's popular at the moment, and particularly, kids. These products don't exist to cater to the smaller segment of fans that might want a McQuarrie or 1977 Holiday Special set.

Also note: the Advent Calendars have *never* used new molds. Each set since 2011 has tended to represent a "best of" from the product line that year if you compare it to the other Lego products already on the market. (If City is doing a Police year, then the Advent calendar is Police themed.) So right now, Mando is hot and we're getting a Mando calendar as a result. The 2020 calendar had some Rise of Skywalker elements, because it was coming off the aftermath of 2019's movie. Such as it has always been.

The Calendar is really less a specialty product than you think. It's a children's product subject to the limitations of what the market has already released.

It's fun if you like to open each day before Xmas. Especially if you have kids. Fun little builds for 24 days. And if you collect figs, they usually try to put in 2 to 4 exclusive figs in each calendar.

Gravatar

Besides the Child minifigure, this is just another typical LEGO Star Wars advent calendar... it's boring as heck.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I guess TLG already planned and finalized this calendar before they designed the Dark Trooper minifigure otherwise I imagine one would have been included. Maybe next year, so we can get a way to army build Dark Troopers as a cheaper solution to 75315?

@ResIpsaLoquitur said:

"A lot of your post seems to be advocating for what "you" want and assuming it's a broad representation of what "the fans" want."

Obviously! That was the point of my post. To share what I want! And seeing as I am a lifelong marketer, my pitch is based on my own instincts as well as what I've gathered from the market.

My personal wants are based on 40 years of playing, buying, collecting and supporting LEGO products. 15 years of which, have been to somewhat, extreme levels...

Rather than get hung-up on what I want, did you bother to read further into my post, where I articulated "How" (Fan Poll) and "What" (Holiday Build) the product 'could' become? I prefer to push LEGO to do more vs. less.

If Kuiil or a Dark Trooper were included in this 2021 Mando Themed Calendar, would it or would it not sell a quantum more than without?

"Also note: the Advent Calendars have *never* used new molds. Each set since 2011 has tended to represent a "best of" from the product line that year if you compare it to the other Lego products already on the market."

I get what it started out as, what it evolved into and have monitored fan reaction over the years... Rather than make excuses for LEGO, it can and should become more than the sum of its parts.

Cheers!

@ronvining:
I would personally be all over a McQuarrie Advent Calendar, since I love his OT concept art (plus it doesn’t hurt that Disney didn’t get their hands on the keys until nine months after we lost him, which basically rules out any Disney Wars infiltration). However, most casual SW fans probably have no idea who he is. One of the main appeals would be minifigs based on his early hero lineup (when Chewie was bald, Luke was Leia, and Han was Luke), but I suspect that might require at least one single-use mold, and would leave a lot of people scratching their heads unless they included postcards featuring his artwork.

The tricky thing about Advent Calendars is that most people buy them based on two things. They see the name on the box, and they remember if they liked it the year before. I think a McQuarrie AC could absolutely be successful, if only because most people wouldn’t know what they were buying. The tricky part comes a year later, when they think back to that group of strange characters and decide if they want to risk another round of confusion.

By in Netherlands,

I like that Star Wars is branching out this year. Mandalorian is great.
