Server problems persist
Posted by Huw,
I'm sorry to say that we are still experiencing problems with our server which has caused more downtime today.
Until last Wednesday it had been 100% reliable since we upgraded 6 years or so ago, so the current problems are particularly frustrating. I'm hoping the data centre support team can find the underlying cause and rectify it soon.
Once again, apologies for the inconvenience.

Where's Jack Stone when you need him?
It's Disney's fault.
I hadn’t actually noticed
Thank you very much for keeping us informed. Good luck finding the cause!
Are you sure Huwbot just hasn't lost it's mind?
I feel like it’s the capn’s fault. He’s secretly a lepin fan and has been trying to sabotage us this whole time...
Ori.net hosting are just amaterus playing server admins. Try to look up something more professional.
Gods know that with the amount of ads on the website you can afford it
ORI just host the email, the web server is in a UK data centre.

Just make an account, it’s free and you get rid off all the ads. Honestly please do some research before attacking people over a situation that can be easily rectified when the people in question are already having server problems. Just remember all of this wonderful content is free!

Seconded. This site is an amazing resource for the community, and it’s clearly taken for granted. Huw and the rest of the Brickset team do a great job keeping the site up, updating all of the relevant data, and producing new content.
it's those damn clickits on the loose again, must have escaped and got wedged somewhere.. don't worry Huw, still only a very minor wobble on an otherwise rock solid site.
Still better than the system where I work!
The Brickster won't get away with this...
I appreciate the news update, but actually even though I am a visitor several times a day, I hadn't experienced any problems. I thought some comments of mine had been lost, but that turned out to have been my mistake for looking at the wrong article.
As for those criticizing Huw and his team, I can only say, build your own LEGO website and try to match Brickset in terms of quality of content, ease of use, and value for money (after all it's free!). I guarantee you you will have a hard time doing so.
Don’t worry, these things happen.
Now go buy some bananas, and catch those rogue minions.
Still, less issues than the actual Lego website!
@Zordboy:
I’m not sure taping “Kick Me” signs to Jack Stone’s back is going to have any effect on this server issue.

If you hadn’t noticed, @RTPoaa posted a comment, which requires having an account. That doesn’t mean you get to live a permanently ad-free life. On my PC, I can stay logged in perpetually, so it’s not a problem (and the ads fill a tiny fraction of the screen on the rare occasion that my login gets dropped). On my iPod Touch, the ads take up half the screen or more, sometimes cover the login link, on a slow connection they cause the page to jump around so much that I can scroll past the same comment 3-4x per second, and if I do much of anything else that uses system memory it drops my login. And sometimes I’ve had it stall out during a login attempt, so even that doesn’t magically erase all the problems.
No worries. Thanks for everything you guys do!
Maybe Brickset is getting ready for being absorbed by Lego; so Huw is bringing its servers to the level of those of Lego - eventually he might have to pour water on the computers/servers and if that does not work the next step is a sledgehammer... ;-)
Personally, I have not seen any problems. And we can never say it enough: fantastic job being done here by all the team.
@HOBBES:
Mostly I’ve encountered issues around 8-9pm EDT, which are more noticeable for being the final hour of RSotD, followed by the next one being posted. The outages don’t last more than a few minutes, so if you only check at certain times of the day, or only once per day, chances are you might never notice.
I can relate to these issues. I have a fairly popular site for fan conventions and was having major issues with my hosting provider a few years back. Their support was not helpful at all. Eventually things just seemed to magically sort themselves out. I suspect that the hosting company found out what boneheaded server change they made and just didn’t want to admit it was their fault. (It’s always easier for them to try to blame me even if I hadn’t made any code changes in production.)
Hopefully Huw’s data center people are more competent than mine were. :)
Thanks for letting us know the status. Good luck. You have a great web site and I sure miss it when it's not available!
Is this why i can’t load part lists?
Im lead to believe that solving issues in data centres should be as easy as 01, 10, 11.
Huwbots gone on strike until Lego brink back Clickits :)
Thanks for all you do @Huw! It’s too easy to take Brickset for granted :)
I wondered about issues that I've had just recently that I thought were odd, as your site is so reliable.
I thought it might be my computer as pictures of sets wouldn't load for me, amongst a few other issues. Thanks for letting us know!
Huwbot sabotaged the server
@Huw Is the ultra slow speed of over a minute when clicking on a set image to expand it also due to the server problems?
Yes, I think so.
Never really noticed issue but sorry there are for some of you and Huw the owner! Hope you can get it all sorted. Love this site and all you provide to many in so many ways! Thanks to Huw and the team!

I mean why are you trying to use an ipod to surf the internet?
I did notice, because I check the site regularly every day. For the last years I never ever had any problem. So I am definitely looking at that 99,9999999% of the time instead of this once there are some issues.
I understand the frustration for you guys, but from my side nothing else than thanks! Good luck!
Pictures are taking a long time to load!
@Terreneflame:
Um...breaks at work? Beats hauling around a laptop, and I’m not paying a Winter Village set every month plus a UCS MF2 every year or two for a smartphone. Some of us would rather spend our LEGO budget on LEGO product rather than the means to talk about it.

An iPod Touch is just an iPhone without the phone capability. While it’s been a few years since Apple produced an official dedicated one, any iPhone that’s had its cell service deactivated is technically still considered an iPod Touch, so could be as new as last year’s model for all we know.
I have the latest iPhone model myself, and while I generally can stay logged in, once in awhile my login is dropped for whatever reason. When that happens, the ads tend to be glitchy and definitely cover content sometimes, and I’ve even had a couple instances where they even covered up buttons on the web page and I had to refresh it a couple times to get around the problem and log in. If someone’s on a slow connection or slightly older device, this makes using the website a lot more challenging, if not impossible.
FYI, I have no issue with brickset using ads or the amount they use. I just think they need to take another look at how and where they’re placed (especially on mobile) to ensure they don’t cover up website functionality or outright prevent logins.
@MrBob:
I just ran into a really bad one from Walmart, with a water bottle. It was a two-layer ad, and the top layer covered the “X” that would close the ad! To reveal the “X”, you had to pull the top layer down, but as soon as you released it, it’d snap right back into place. Pulling it down with one finger and tapping the “X” with another didn’t work. Hitting the top layer over the “X” just activated the link in the ad. I had to use the Back button to escape it. The irony is, it popped up when I was trying to submit a login attempt, which would have banished it. The ads are clearly getting smarter, and are starting to defend themselves...
No RSotD yet!!
Now we know it's serious: Huwbot is down.

Actually, I think Huwbot is entirely to blame. Clearly the hosting company saw Clickits come up at the same time that they got one of those reboot to install a windows update message. Sadly, they must have listened.
I had that moment of panic yesterday then recalled reading a message earlier in the week about server problems.
These glitches makes us realize how much we love and truly rely on Brickset for our day to day Lego news and shopping.
All the best with resolving this problem and keep up the wonderful work you do for us Fans.

I didn’t know this…last week the ads were coming like crazy and I had no idea, thought it was new. Then I notice that I was logged out. Didn’t even realize they went away at that time!
Hey, RSotD posted without crashing the site!
relax server had a bad hair day, dont we all.
I don't want to speak too soon, but I think things are back to normal now.
@John_Lianne:
I’m half-Viking, on my mother’s side. My hair is supposed to look like that.
Cloudflare somehow decided I was doing something bad, and now I can only access the site via VPN. :(
