Looks great, but it is also so much... stuff. Personally I am only interested in the figs, and the comedy club vignette, which is small enough as a conversation piece on my desk.

Ordered even though I said I needed to save, who can resist Newman?

By in Germany,

It's quite good value actually, even at RRP, but I don't really need it, so will hold off for now. I like these types of sets in general, though I am not a particularly big fan of Seinfeld.

Just don't put Kramer on the comedy club vignette.

Well played.

It makes me think that a set design Star Wars set could be interesting… especially if we get Grand Moff Tarkin in his slippers!

Never heard of this show before was it popular in the states?

@huw, with the Olympics beginning this Friday, why doesn't the Brickset team review 21051 Tokyo if you haven't already?

By in United States,

Dang! Fell asleep early last night and didn't have "The Talk" w/my wife about this... Hope it's still available tomorrow. Daddy never really did get his Father's Day gift. Btw, screw you eBay fake sellers! Thought I'd bought 31026 MISB for 75.00, then waited, and waited, and nothing. If it's too good to be true, it's probably a jerk in his basement selling expensive air hoping you don't ask for the refund. Eventually got my refund and an empty 1 square foot of floor space in the basement where 31026 should've been. Oh well, maybe I'll get the go ahead to pull the trigger on this, if it's still around tomorrow. I'll start holding my breath now...

Oh I'm putting Kramer up there, and taking the table out to make room for Mr. T from Dimensions. I pity the Kramer Minifigure fool that gets shipped w/my set.

By in Australia,

Picked this up today from the Dreamworld LEGO store, looking forward to building it (I spent time building the Vidiyo Boom Box and Duck Tails Brickheadz instead so I haven't opened Seinfeld yet)

Does anyone else just want to take all the old tv show apartments and stack them on top of eachother?

It's the most successful and lucrative sitcoms in history. Jerry Seinfeld has a net worth just shy of a Billion with a B dollars largely due to the show. It also defined, for a large part, the culture of America in the 90s. I didn't love it, but had funny moments. I remember it was THE talk of TV other than Friends and perhaps a couple other sitcoms. It has continued to be successful in syndication and in streaming. I literally saw an add for the show in my city just yesterday on the side of a bus.

Seinfeld was the second highest rated show in the US from 1994-1998, after only ER. Bigger than Friends. It’s highly watched to this day due to syndication. Definitely worthy of a Lego set. I understand it may have not been huge in every country, but there are plenty of things that Lego has made (Caterham, Aston Martin, London Bus) that cater solely to the UK and US fans haven’t complained.

is Newman really the only one with an alternate face? George's hair wouldn't cover the back but everyone else could have had one.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is that a muffin top on the counter? It's a well done set, that's for sure, but I still don't get the whole Lego sitcom thing lately. Also I prefer Jerry's earlier season compact Mac.

By in United States,

I can't wait to pick this up. So many details.

Got. to. love. the. Sein.

It was definitely a top show in my house growing up. I was likely underage to watch it, but I loved it. So hilarious. Even Jerry's stand up in real life was funny after the show ended (I saw him twice). But anymore, his humor is a bit dated and he does come off as pretty arrogant in real life. But I guess being that rich, it comes with the territory.

Normally I would totally agree, but one has to admit the price is quite good. And if you don't care about the figures, sell them, and afterwards the pieces in the set will have cost you next to nothing. Quite a good idea to get a cheap parts pack with many interesting pieces.

As for the show itself, the funny thing is that I normally love comedy shows from Britain and some from the US too. Examples for American comedy shows I really like are TBBT, Home Improvement, Simpsons or Married with Children. But Seinfeld I never understood what was supposed to be funny about. To this day I can watch episodes of it and not even manage a snigger, let alone a hearty laugh. It's just not my kind of humor I guess.
Nevertheless I like the set enough to consider getting it some day.

This set destroys the argument that Lego is a kids toys. What 8 year old kid will want a Seinfeld set?

Very surprised this exists, but being a huge Seinfeld fan I won't look a gift horse in the mouth.

Actually that would be neat, David Prowse's face under the Darth Vader mask, Peter Cushing in slippers, a roll of duct tape to the side near Carrie Fisher's changing room (if you know you KNOW); and a big director's chair with George sitting in it. Would be perfect for a Lego Store exclusive or something like that.

This show came out when I was 7. I likely started watching it around age 10. So you're right, at age 8, tough call. However, the box is designated as 18+, therefore it isn't marketed toward 8 year olds, so your argument isn't valid.

And considering this isn't the first 18+ set, let alone this year, it hasn't been a "kid's" toy in a while. I just received a booklet in the mail talking about as an adult I should be interested in the new LEGO sets. LEGO is fun for all ages.

Please. Nobody uses that stuff on set. The adhesive tends to turn slimy over time, and eventually you’d need to use harsh chemicals to remove it. But I suspect there were a few unused rolls of gaffer’s tape that mysteriously ended up in the trash...

Can't believe this set doesn't include a Phase 2 Commander Cody!!!

Yet not that many toxic 'fans' here in the Seinfeld comments.
Maybe they just stick to the Star Wars articles comments...?

I did research and gaffer's tape is what I am referring to, regarding the whole "there is no underwear in space" bit on George's direction.

Not quite as wild as Roddenberry's belief that there was no chest hair in the future on Star Trek, but it still ranks up there.

Wake me up when we will get BONES or X files set.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I was never a fan of Seinfeld, but I do love Larry David's Curb your Enthusiasm. It's probably too niche for a Lego set, so I'm not hopeful of ever seeing one though!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Just a heads up, I had issues checking out using SK11 code yesterday (US Lego Online Store). Looks like the code has changed to SK29 or MG29 (again, at least in the US/lego.com). YMMV

It... doesn't. The vast majority of LEGO products are still targeted at children. The reason it seems like everything is targeted at adults is because this is a website by AFOLs for AFOLs, who presumably don't care too much about the latest 4+ release or umpteenth Police Mobile HQ, and therefore Huw and co. choose to report on and review adult-focused sets. Just because a company diversifies its output doesn't invalidate its previous and current releases that hew closer to their traditional product. Just because Disney distributed a few Wes Anderson films and owns the rights to Die Hard doesn't mean that they can no longer brand themselves as a family entertainment studio.

What, no Mulva minifig?!

Gravatar
By in Poland,

I am quite surprised that Jerry Seinfeld is not involved in any way in promoting this set. I mean, not even a tweet about it from him. Does he even know how big of a thing this is?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Finished building this and it is amazing. Lets hope this set is a smash hit and we see another set (probably the diner/cafe) similar to how Friends got a second set.

I think you mean Gipple.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Why would he promote the set? He's a near billionaire. I'm sure he doesn't care about a toy. And since it is licensed, his property would already be getting paid either way.
