Posted by Huw,
Ahead of its official reveal, details of the Queer Eye set were briefly available on the Malaysian pages of LEGO.com earlier today.
10291 Queer Eye – The Fab 5 Loft
Rated 18+, 974 pieces. £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99

Calling all fans of the Queer Eye TV show on Netflix! Get ready to be your true self as you join the Fab 5 for a rewarding building project with this LEGO Queer Eye – The Fab 5 Loft (10291) set.
As you recreate all the details that make up the interior of the Fab 5’s original Atlanta loft, you’ll discover lots of features from the show with tributes to each of the Fab 5’s special talents. There’s a kitchen island for Antoni, a clothing rack for Tan, Jonathan’s swivel salon chair and Karamo’s couch and scrap book. And this space is Bobby-approved as he helped design this very special LEGO interior.

No episode of Queer Eye would be complete without a makeover. So, as well as including minifigure versions of each of the Fab 5 (plus Bruley the dog), this buildable model includes 2 Kathi Dooley (a very special guest from a very special episode!) minifigures. There’s also a transformation chamber feature to recreate Kathi’s emotional ‘before and ‘after’ reveal.
- Measures over 3.5 in. (9 cm) high, 13.5 in. (35 cm) wide and 8.5 in. (21 cm) deep.
- Includes minifigures of Tan, Jonathan, Karamo, Antoni, and Bobby, as well as three outfit changes, and Bruley the dog.
- Also includes 2 Kathi Dooley (a very special guest from a very special episode!) minifiures and a transformation chamber to recreate the ‘before and after’ reveals.
- Uncover a host of details reflecting each of the Fab 5’s talents, including a kitchen island for Antoni, a clothing rack for Tan, Jonathan’s salon chair, Karamo’s couch and Bobby’s interior scheme.
- This set is the result of a close collaboration between the LEGO designers and the Fab 5 themselves. The coffee-table-style instructions give an inspiring insight into the collaborative process.
The official press release will be published later today and our review this afternoon.

The "Yaas Queen" in the back is kind of cringe in my opinion and I don't know if they had to mention how special Kathi Dooley is twice (frankly I don't know who that is they could be very special)

It makes much more sense if you watch the show.
Oh wow they did such a good job of the mini figures here! I mean damn they literally look just like the cast! ??
Eventually! The black box is gone! Hurray! Glad to see the return of bright color and themed frames and decoration on the box arts. It still looks sleek and simplistic yet matching the vibe and style of the set more. Hope the original Lego-style themed box arts return for the 18+ sets from now on, instead of being just as a special case. Perfect now. The banner is enough to distinguish if a set is 18+, to be honest.
I never even heard of the show before this, so easy pass. I do like the colorful minifigs. Also, is this the first 18+ set without the black box background?
Interesting use of torsos without hands to represent shirts that are not being worn. Has that been done before? Does LEGO expect you to put hands in to make them usable as tops? If so, that would be new.

We're gonna need a bigger filing cabinet for those comments
I recently got into this show and think this looks great, the minifigures are perfect and as with most of the TV show sets, looks like we get some good parts and interesting build techniques (like the black chair)
I'm sure it won't be everyone's cup of tea but if you don't like it, you're not obliged to buy it...
Truly a set of historic firsts: white masonry bricks, handless torsos, and a YAAAAS QUEEN poster in Lego form. Nice work.
I've also never seen the show (the first I have heard of it was the teaser announcement here on Brickset), but the set doesn't look half bad. And the figures look nice enough to populate any LEGO City layout even if you don't know who they are supposed to represent.
And if this set turns out to be a shelf warmer like the Vidiyo line, all the better, because then it will be a nice heavily discounted parts pack for me. Win win scenario.
I don't have any knowledge of the TV show, but purely as a Lego set this look very good. That's a really nice interior and excellent figures; they're so characterful.
That photo of the set where Kathy is walking in and everyone is greeting her just oozes positive vibes. Nice one Lego!
Spectacular minifigs and torsos! Happy to see this set from an inclusiveness perspective as well. Judging from the comments on the last article, these kinds of “statements” seem to still be needed sadly. Accepting that people are different isn’t too hard if you give it an honest try
I love the design of this, but given I didn’t here of the show until a few days ago and my Christian beliefs, this is very low on my want list.
I’m also estimating some apartment fatigue coming soon, especially since this is third TV Show based apartment this year, after Friends and Seinfeld.
I still really like it. Unforunately, it’s just not my thing.
EDIT: Also, I hope we see this style of box for 18+ more often. Also, why is ‘minifigures’ misspelled in the third dot point?
I'm with @AustinPowers on this one. Don't know the show or much care, but looks like some interesting details & at the right price would make a good parts pack.
These have to be some of the most accurate looking minifigures to real people I’ve ever seen.

I think their research indicates that basically no one likes the black boxes and a lot of people have been complaining about them since they started, and this is just the first set that rectified that due to the length of the production cycle

Yeah I thought that too; I've never seen that used in a set. I had imagined Lego would shy away from anything which might encourage kids removing hands as the potential for loss and excessive wear is quite high. Maybe as this torso is supplied without hands it's seen differently (and this is an 18+ set).
That's a really nice set! Even for those not interested in Queer Eye, it looks like it wouldn't be too difficult at all to modify it into a swanky modern apartment for any minifigure to live in. I wonder how long it will take for someone to turn it into a modular moc interior?
Nice looking set with lovely, happy vibes, but the most interesting aspect to me is the hand-less torsos! I never expected LEGO to do this in a official set, but it looks very good, and it would have been weird to have clothes with hands on the hangers. I wonder what this will lead to in the future: Will the next Bespin Luke have one hand, for instance?
That Mullet... Can we expect a McGyver set soon ? ^^
As a whole, the set isn't really my thing but I absolutely love the designs of all the furnitures. I'll definitely check the instructions when they get released.
It's a nice idea, I guess, but I'm still wondering ... why?
Tiger King and Here Comes Honey Boo Boo Set when?

I think I may be alone, but I much preferred the black box - thought it looked fantastic.

Three apartment-type sets (four if you include the Thor one) in quick succession may well promote multi-buys in people who like 'sets' of sets. With a few adjustments I expect they could be displayed really well as an apartment block scene or even used as a large complex playset easily accessible to small hands.
I've yet to buy any of these myself, but if I had a non-Lego-fan friend who loved any of these shows I'd definitely consider one as a gift. Maybe that's where a good chunk of sales are projected to come from.
As someone who'd like to see a minifig scale reboot of the Homemaker theme I really like all these interior focused sets, so many nice furniture etc builds!

The show has exceptionally high ratings on IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes, but why let facts get in your way? :D
I’m just happy as Larry (whoever Larry is) that I can now finally get a grey quiff hairpiece and make a Minifigure version of myself……YASSSS QUEEN
I don't know how accurate the set is, but I exspected a more collerfull set, nad not just bland white and grey walls.

Nah. Actually, I asked for a comment just like his.
Yours, on the other hand, is just a jab at another user with not one mention of the LEGO set under discussion.
I bet all those little thumbs up convince you you did good, huh?
Designating things as gay or for gay people is as socially regressive as designating things for boys or girls. LEGO continues to disappoint me with this type of behavior.
MULLET!! nice, need to get that for my "squeal like a pig" moc
Those results though, almost 90% (!!!) don't care about this set -> ouch.

If you want to try your hand at woke corporatism and do something queer, gives us Priscilla, not some toxic third rate reality TV garbage full of obnoxious stereotypes.
I want a goddam pink bus dammit !
Or give a Rocky Horror Picture Show mansion, yes, give us a 5k pieces mansion, that'll do, make sure to have a lot of minifigs."
Ugh, now I want a Dr. Frank-N-Furter minifig, damn you.
@joedapoboy, you called it on the transformation function!
As others have said, the furniture and details are very nice. Minifig designs appear to be excellent. It will be interesting how handless torsos will play out. And it looks like the mirror is actually reflective to some degree.
Is that grey hair drum lacquered? That's pretty interesting

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I don't think LEGO has designated this as gay or for gay people, have they?
As I understand it the TV show is called Queer Eye, so naturally the set would be too. Changing the name or not releasing it because the hosts are gay would be regressive, but making a LEGO set of a TV show seems pretty standard now, right?
Never heard of the show. Checking now, I thought they would have gone for the Kansas City loft.
The set is great anyway. Minifigs too.
I sort of agree with the flat fatigue point, not ideal, but as long as these sets are available for more than a 12 month cycle, it should be ok for me.
I like that TLG tries things a bit unusual even if it is not what I am immediately after (like 'new' Classic Space, Castles, Stinger Mantis or Imperial Flagship for example :)).

"There's a reason I don't disclose my sexual orientation on comments about Lego sets, is because it's completely irrelevant, so then it becomes funny when you get called homophobic for questioning the existence of Lego set based on a reality TV show.
Most of the comments here read like Straight Guy mansplaining gay inclusion to gay people. The comments come across as "you must like musicals because you're gay" or "ask him about fashion, because he's gay". Other's come across as "I support gay rights because I bought a Lego set based off of reality TV show". I'm currently building some architecture sets, I'm not questioning the lack of gay representation in stuff that's fairly neutral.
I was a Lego fan as a child, long before my sexual orientation became apparent. The assumption that Lego need to make explicitly gay sets (that either are pride flag sets or say queer in the title) to get gay fans is entirely misplaced. When I see all of the rainbow capitalism I'm not like "oh I didn't know this hoodie was for people like me until they put a rainbow flag on it".
I expressed negative towards the Mario ? Cube, but didn't get called a bigot. There was hostility to the Fender, yet people weren't called Fender-phobic.
Last week Lego announced three adult sets, this is another (and there are a few more big sets to be announced). Lego are stretching themselves thin, and production is struggling as they are always sold of sets."
Homosexual people are normal people just like the rest of us. But western progressives seem to like painting them as freaks who need special treatment.
The poll results so far suggest this won't be flying off the shelves. I was unaware of this show, then again I am blissfully unaware of ALL "reality" TV. My main takeaway from it is that at least it seems those miserable black boxes might be gone. Yay!
Comments don’t seem quite as acerbic as some of those from the Everyone Is Awesome launch, is that to come or have we shed the haters?
What!? No Crab-People minifigures? Sorry - my entire knowledge of Queer Eye comes from South Park (not even sure if it is the same show that was referenced). Not a bad looking set though, maybe a little grey, however obviously not for me.
What happened to that dog!? …I don’t mind spoilers.
Meanwhile, we still don't have an Office-based set. Maybe The Office fans don't have money to waste on Lego sets...

It might be down to the number of minifigures needed for the large cast of The Office. Big Bang Theory, Friends, Seinfeld, this one, they can all be done with 6-7. If they limit The Office to 6 or 7, then they will need to miss out fan favourites."
It won't help that there is no definitive version of the show, with the UK one being the best, of course, but the US one enjoying success on both sides of the Atlantic. Not to mention all the other versions... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Office
That's a weird Peach's Castle...
Jokes aside, I'm glad this set exists. I'm interested in how they will treat the handless torso. Do you have to remove the hands, or will they designate it as a new type of part? Will torsos be counted as 5 pieces from now on? Please don't. Removing those parts reduces their friction.
That said... ANOTHER sitcom set this year? And another week, another product reveal. Idk, lego is spreading my interest thin, and I don't even buy these high-cost sets. I used to just appreciate their contribution to the lineup. But now it's just too hard to care about the next huge thing they're churning out.
At least this set has a lot of firsts...
Oh, and the BLACK BOX IS GONE! WOOOHOOOOO

You're probably right there. I would say there are at least four characters that HAVE to be included, but that wouldn't make much of an Office set. So start including other characters and where do you draw the line? I might even say the camera crew need to be included too. And where to stop building. Big Bang and Central Perk were easy as they depict the iconic view of those sets, but I didn't like the Friends Apartment, too big to display and very awkwardly shaped.
Get ready for the steady pour of anti-LGBT comments!
Comments here are surprisingly negative…I like this even though I know nothing about the show, I like the set for what it is and not because of the other stuff
I don't quite understand some of these comments.
This set doesn't really interest me. I won't buy it. Simple.
I'm sure TLG have a team who decide what will sell well, or not. They won't get it right every time but they are a big enough company to take the odd risk.

My daughter did this all the time with her Friends - when presented with a long line of Friends torsos on her model - "it's their clothes, daddy!!!) :-)

Plastic figures representing plastic people would be a pretty good start though!
I must say even though I don't watch this show I like the building techniques. I might pick this up for all of the grey brick pieces, because those are very useful. Minifigures are ok but certainly not my favorites.
Oh dear

That’s Bruley, he was a beloved feature on the show, he died about 2 years.
I personally think this set looks pretty boring.
Also, I hate how people are automatically assuming someone is homophobic just because they dislike the set. I hate this catch-22, but I’m sure a marketing team somewhere loves it.
How about a Cosby Show set? What's holding that back? (laughing as I type it)
But seriously, The Office would have been a much better choice. Beyond that of course is the BEST choice, MORE SIMPSONS!!!

You say that, but a Tiger King set would come with heaps of animal moulds, and would be easily halfway to the City Zoo set, that the entire fandom has wanted for years.

Because the lead was a sexual predator and a monster. I'm not sure why you're comparing that to a bunch of people who've merely been born different.

I imagine 10% of a potential customer base buying *any* product would in fact be a mind-bogglingly amazing success. 10% is way too high an estimate IMO.

I'll accept that I missed a few things. I've been trying to avoid the fandom all day.
@darthmar said: "Never heard of this show but maybe that's because I am from the Netherlands."
This isn't even the first version of the show. The original version had five different guys, it came out (edit: hah. Pun unintended) some years ago now. It was a bit of a phenomenon at the time. I didn't really watch it much, I've never even seen an episode of this one, but I'm familiar enough with the gimmick.
I've heard of the original show but don't believe I've ever seen it, not into reality TV and had no idea there was a new version. Personally don't care for the white box, have enjoyed the black boxes for the most part in the way they show the set, didn't even realise the picture was of the box until a comment made me go back and look!
It seems like this is more about Lego trying to get no Lego adults to buy sets, but I guess their market research supports making this, like Vidyo (sarcasm there lol!). While I have no issue with a set that has characters that are LBGT+ it does surprise me Lego would make the sets given how much they have invested into the Chinese market and are trying to expand in the Middle East and Africa. Especially given the recent moves by the CCP it seems like a dicey move on Lego's part that could cause them issues with less tolerant countries. I hope that it is not the case, but Lego is still viewed as a toy even with all their recent Adult Welcome (creepy slogan) advertising and that move will open the company and their products up to issues around tolerance of different life styles and cultures to the markets they want to move into.
Still though, 64% of the poll say no not interested on this set, wow!
