This year's Bricktober sets discovered

Posted by ,

Three of this year's Toys R Us Bricktober sets have been discovered on the toy store's Singapore site by BricksFanz, although they don't seem to be there any more.

The sets depict a scene from a fairy tale, on top of a closed book and, as is always the case with Bricktober sets, they are cute and desirable!

As in previous years they will be a gift with qualifying purchases in Asian branches of the store, with each one available for a different period during October, as follows:

  • Hansel And Gretel: Sept 24th — Oct 7th
  • Jack And The Beanstalk: 8th — 15th
  • Little Red Riding Hood: 16th — 24th
  • t.b.a: 25th — 31st

You can view images of the three after the break.

That's one seriously big axe!

I mean, yeah they are cute, but thankfully I don't desire them. Wouldn't be able to get ahold of them anyway.

I would say I like Hansel and Gretel the most.

Interesting; it's new and unique. Although I feel like minifig-scale stuff will always sell better though...

By in United States,

With the Ideas set and the Christmas Carol book set, I guess LEGO has a things for books now. These look good too

Of course, literally ever since Toys "R" Us shut down here in The States I've absolutely loved every Bricktober promotion Offered, I ended up paying $200 on eBay for the 4 seasons Bricktober sets from a few years back cuz I just had to have them.
And it looks like I'll be doing the same for This wave of Bricktober Sets,
But Hey hopefully I can find them for a good price on bricklink.

By in Canada,

These look really nice! I love the choice on Legos part to give them all a fall aesthetic even though the stories arent necessarily set during that time. Hansel and Gretel is my favorite, however, Little Red Riding Hood is actually quite unrecognizable.

Lucky it's not a big chopper!

By in United Kingdom,

I saw them on the site earlier today and they have gone now - I also saw something suggesting the missing one is Alice in Wonderland. Spent the evening compiling a list of potential purchases to meet the free delivery threshold because that's S$11 higher than the qualifying spend for the gift :)

Oh my goodness, they're adorable. I was kind of hoping that I wouldn't like this year's sets as much so I wouldn't have to get them, but I do. Alas.

By in Poland,

I hope that Lego will continue with sets in the style of Andersen or Dickens ones...

Not to mention 76391 Hogwarts Icons Collector's Edition, 30628 Monster Book of Monsters, and 40291 Creative Personalities! Honestly, I like it--the more Lego books the better!

Maybe one day they'll make a 4655900 PROFILE BRICK 1X2 corner piece to improve them...

By in United Kingdom,

Those look pretty neat, I hope I can get hold of at least one.
It would be cool if the books are hollow so that the pieces from the vignette would fit inside.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Very 'meh'.
Not very good at all actually. The book is nice though to customize stuff on top.

But… they’re a gift with purchase.

Wow, these are really cute! Nice parts usage on the chimney smoke.

Blah blah blah… UK losing out again

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

Nice, hope the last one will be a H. C. Andersen fairytales. That would be truly epic.

Considering how many things have been UK only lately, this is a bonkers thing to say ;)

TRU remains in Canada and was never under financial strain here but is independent of TRU from anywhere else. I guess only TRU Asia gets the promos now as they too are independent. We Canadians must be too small a market to be included — and probably too nice to complain much.

As much as I have to say on this argument, North America is getting the monkie kid sets discounted through Amazon. And they can order some of the uk exclusive sets like the blue fiat through zavii. As much as I hate complaining, this is checkmate.

I’d do anything to get monkie kid on Amazon uk

Not really a fan of Little Red Riding hood for some reason, but the others, particularly the beanstalk look good.

By in United States,

I know rainbows aren't always LGBTQIA+ (especially with the redesigned flag that Everyone is Awesome is based on, which adds additional colors) but I can't help but see the blanket as a pride one. Interesting builds but I've never really gotten Bricktober sets aside from the Infinity War Minifigure Pack so I'm probably skipping out on these, as well.

By in Australia,

I recently found some old Christmas decorations, and one of them was a Hansel-and-Gretel themed ornament that my parents bought on a holiday in Europe.

And I love the idea that the Hansel and Gretel story has been co-opted into Christmas. Because nothing says festive like a horrifying tale of child abduction, black magic and gory homicides.

TRU Asia was not "given" anything - they paid for these to be made. If TRU Canada wants a promotion they'll need to pay for it too. Or perhaps just get the government to pay for it - that's the Canadian way too.

They don't get these at TRU Canada?! Darn! My wife is going up in early October to visit family and I was going to ask her to stop in because her sister lives just a couple minutes from a Toys R Us.

Oh well...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Absolute zero hype. Nice miniature sets, but cost wise for many people to get them means they might as well be Comic Con exclusives.

Maybe in this version Jack stole the giant’s axe too?

By in United States,

Looking at these, all I can think about is...if TRU US was still up and running, what would the required spend be to qualify for these, and how little product would you get after their markup?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Oh my god I'm going to need all of these.

Gravatar

These are so cool, I might actually get them

I intender “get” to mean “become the TRU version on the globe to have them available” rather than “be awarded them over all others.” The process by which this occurred is not transparent to me in any case. I apologise for the ambiguity.

I am also unaware of TRU Canada getting any government-backed bailouts or financial supports as the automaking industry did here some decade ago. On the other hand, should any level of Canadian government decide to mandate that LEGO be available in this way to its constituents, they would certainly get my vote (no such luck in tomorrow’s federal election, sadly).

Qualifying spend in Singapore is S$69. Around US$51 at current exchange rates.

By in Poland,

I looked at the pics and then went back to see what the third one was. I figured it must be an Asian fairy tale because I couldn't figure it out. Some sea monster leaving a rainbow trail? I see it's Red Ridinghood now, but wouldn't have got it on my own.

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

The Red Riding Hood looks like it is turnable, I guess a little girl is at the entrance.

And the Hogwarts Moments subtheme! 76382, 76383, 76384 and 76385 - even if they lack pages.

I completely agree - brickbuilt books are awesome. I love this Hansel & Gretel set, may try to recreate it.

By in United States,

These look great! Another depressing round of reminders of TRU's mismanagement in the US.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think the RR wolf is meant to appear in bed, and the rainbow tiles are a bedspread.

By in United States,

@Igloo:
TRU US may have been given spend thresholds by The LEGO Company, or they may have been allowed to come up with their own. I would expect at least a $100 minimum, based on how high they got by the last Bricktober we saw in the US. I think those tiny little microscale vignettes were $75 minimum.

@fulcrumbop:
They weren’t mismanaged. I mean, they had a few issues, but nothing that was going to drive them out of business. They were scooped up in a leveraged buyout, used to apply for as many loans as they could qualify for, and then cut loose to deal with the debt while the former owners walked off with all the money. They were “managed” exactly as intended. Many of their stores were badly in need of renovation, but the company was carrying too much debt to qualify for the loans they’d need to do anything about it. Stores looked so run down they couldn’t attract shoppers, and they started defaulting on their inherited debt load. From the moment someone decided they were a ripe target, they were pretty much doomed to their fate. It would have taken a benevolent investor to undo the damage and save them.

Oh haha, I totally missed that. I had forgotten Bricktober sets are all like this.

By in Canada,

Just got an email from TRU Canada, they are running the Bricktober promo with the 2020 models. Free with a purchase of $65+.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

The big bad wolf is a really nice build.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I made a purchase last week at the LEGO Certified Store in Brisbane, Australia and was pleasantly surprised to get the Hansel and Gretel set as a GWP for "Bricktober".

Apparently there will be a new one each week of October, and they are free with in-store purchases of $100 AUD.

Interesting to see that at the time of posting this comment, they are listed as "unreleased"
