Doesn't seem to be that much good on its own.
I challenge someone to make a moc using these prominently.
Trigger the shooter barrel boys!
For a Technic part, it sure seems to be exclusively used in minifig-based System sets. Also, I bet getting shot with a net really hurts.
@WesterBricks:
I was just thinking how cruel it would be for this to be revealed as an Iron Builder part.
Description word logic sense makes perfect.

I don't think getting shot with a net hurts.
It looks like it's got one of those SpongeBob anchovy's mouths there at the bottom
@Lego_mini_fan:
I’m not saying it would hurt like Grid from Alien Vs Predator, but for a tired net to actually work, they have to add weights to the edge so they’ll stretch the net between them as they spread apart. You’ll probably get hit directly by one or two on your legs, and as the top edge of the net wraps over and envelops you, you’ll possibly get hit by more. The inertia of all these weights on the net will probably knock you off your feet, and the net will inhibit your ability to break your fall with outstretched arms. So, not Grid, but not a foam pit, either.
9 sets, 9 net shooters, very specialized piece here.

I just went through the experience and thought I would share my findings: getting shot with a LEGO net was painless. Now you know.
There is, of course, always the potential to be bored to death by a Lego net in the wrong hands, so care should always be taken.
Two-thirds of the sets this part is included in are police sets.
I’d hate to know how much tax LEGO City citizens must pay if this kind of tech is widespread.
Do the net shooters actually work well? Looking at them, I kind of don't get the impression that they would; but I've never seen one in person, so I could just be making undue assumptions.
@ThatBionicleGuy:
I don’t have a net-shooter to try out, but the nets themselves aren’t going to fly very far. Nets that small don’t really need weighted edges to cause them to open up, but without weights there’s very little inertia, and a whole lot of surface area creating drag. You could give it a gentle toss, and then really put your arm into the next throw, and not see much difference in distance. Between fighting physics, and difficulty aiming a net cannon, it’s probably best if the target is only a few inches away.

It's taken out of the healthcare and education budgets. Just look at the ratio of Mobile Police Command Centers to hospitals or schools.
ANd that's basically all I think you can use this part for. All the sets with the net launchers looked pretty stupid, and removing them is a huge improvement.
I seriously question why the net shooter exists when in the past net shooters were an empty jet engine or brick-built like in 8633 or 5883.
@Norikins:
I’m guessing the previous solutions didn’t perform as hoped.
