Links to Amazon.se added to set listings

Posted by ,

Brickset is now an Amazon.se affiliate which means we will earn a small commission when you buy anything from the site via our links.

If you're viewing Brickset from Sweden the Amazon link on the home page will lead you directly to the LEGO page at Amazon.se and the Amazon links in the set listings to specific products.

Once a number of qualifying sales have been made we will be able to access the Amazon API to gather pricing information and generate Bargain Watch alerts listing discounted sets on the home page. So, if that's something you'd find useful, please shop via our links. Thank you!

Please support local Lego stores (especially the ones not belonging to a large retail chain or Lego itself) if you're able and willing to pay a little more. Having your money go to someone who might bring his/her kids to the same school as your own kids is a lot better than the megacorporations.

(I know this is a personal decision for everyone, and this is also not an easy decision for many).

Fantastic!
Usually don't buy through Amazon, but this might change that.

I have to agree, would rather like to see links to smaller local groups or shops when possible.

I regret the presence of these affiliate-links on the BS website. I understand the interest that's in it for BS, but in the end it destroys all independent LEGO-retailers and a lot of jobs. Thus reducing LEGO buying to boxmoving instead of sharing a passion.

The unfortunate reality is that most of these sites wouldnt be able to exist without the income generated by affiliate links with big retail like Amazon and Wal-mart. Although ad revenue is productive, when you sign in the ads disappear--I would guess without it, that wouldnt be an option.

Obviously I dont know the ins and outs of Huw's business model; I am pretty confident if the site were self-sufficient without the links he would do so. It's a, for lack of a better term, necessary "evil" of running a site like this.

I don't believe for a moment that affiliate links have any effect on whether someone shops online or in a physical shop. The only minimal effect is likely to be which online shop they use. Sadly the decision of online vs physical has already been made.

I also agree with previous posters that it's better to support local stores. The problem is, LEGO in Sweden is supremely expensive and my local store rarely offers significant discounts. I do pop in there frequently and purchase small items or exclusive items that are unavailable elsewhere. When I can get a larger set 30% off on Amazon, I will go for that though, even if I have mixed feelings about it. At least from now on, it means I will be supporting my favorite website. So I'm gonna say great, much appreciated!

Amazon.se has tons of BAD reviews online though, people not getting their stuff from them. Them claiming it got "lost in the mail". And when contacted, they wont repsond or just send you a copy/paste non-answer response.
Personally, I've bought from there once and it worked out, but for some reason they only accepted direct payments using credit card, and refused to take invoice payment. When contacting the live-chat support about it, they could not explain to me why this was the case.
