Interesting, it seems like a partial replacement in the set it's used in for the standard CCBS large torso shell, but with some bits on the back. I wonder if it could have gone on to do more used in other sets, but it was from the beginning of CCBS.

Oh that 2192 would be the set of the day today!

Otherwise, kinda looks like a hockey shoulder pad part for a large figure.

Sounds pretty painful if I'm being honest

Wow, a CCBS part I have never seen before. Interesting.

Huh, I don't recognize this part. One of my biggest gripes over CCBS figures was the lack of back armor, but here it is in wave 1 of the build-style. Wonder why they never reused it...

@GSR_MataNui:
It’s one of my two biggest gripes, along with the paint-by-numbers nature of the CCBS concept in general. And it’s not just that there’s no shells for the back, but that it’s a chore to even add one. The chest shells overlap the sides of the torso frame, so you’d really need a second, neutered torso frame that you could add to the first to make it thicker.

If you look at the prototypes for the Breakout wave, it seems like originally, it was supposed to be reused in the set 6283 Voltix in purple, but the finalized set ended up using the standard torso piece introduced that wave instead. So, the designers definitely wanted to use it more, but they couldn't find the right way to do so, I guess.

I have always found this part very interesting, as if you flip it around, it kind of looks like a pirate hat. Several MOCs have nade very clever use of it in that way, like this one here, for instance:

Yayyy.
Drilldozer was my favorite ccbs guy when I was younger. This piece is great.

This feels like an underutilized CCBS shell. Did a great job of covering up the "shoulders" of a Hero Factory character. Yeah, it's a little specialized but it has some good connections and could've been useful in a few other colors, but it only appeared in the one set. (And honestly that wave of villains were very lackluster anyway.)

I love this piece, got two of them earlier in the year and I’m planning a titan-ish build that uses this to great effect (I’ve designed most of it digitally already). Such a shame it wasn’t used more indeed, but hey I’m glad it at least came in the most useful color so its possible uses are still plenty. I wonder if this is a sign that I really should continue working on that MOC…

I remember the original designer video for CCBS showed a dinosaur build that used this piece as a head.

I can imagine the name 'Ball Snap' garnered a few chuckles in the design department...

I'd like to see a MOC that uses this as horse barding.

No way! I am very happy to see CCBS appearing!

I have this piece since I bought Drilldozer when Ordeal of Fire was released. It is a very good piece and it can be used very well in MOCs, I already used the piece to create the head of a creature.

I find it interesting that this piece was never used again. But like LegoDavid said, it appeared in purple in a very early on Prototype Version of Voltix. I added the picture to HeroPedia, you can see it here: https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/herofactory/images/0/0d/HERO_FACTORY_-_Voltix_%28Prototype%29.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20210916184238

It's unfortunate this piece wasn't used more. Seems like they could've done a lot more with it. Immediately, I feel it could've been used as a sort of "intermediary" chest size between the standard size and extra large chest used by Stormer XL and 2015 Onua. I also believe the 2.0 Hero chest plate fits on this piece as well.

Also, considering it only covers the chest, it would've been neat to see a new waist articulation joint be made with a second armor piece to cover the stomach and crotch.
