Is it a bad thing that I thought at a cursory glance that this was one of the overabundant specialized parts from the early 2000s, only to realize that it's one of the more recent juniorised pieces?

Depends upon you having an actual late '90s juniorized Town set. They had stuff 'similar' to this but never looking like this. In 1997 Large plates were realized by - surprise, surprise: base plates.

Only available in Juniors sets, but the cutouts make for great interconnectedness. It might be specialised but it is useful all the same.

Unsure of the 4 Megametre designation though.

That is true - recent specialized parts are at least a lot more repurposeful than the late '90s/early 2000s ones.

The juniorized sets later introduced huge basic bricks, like the 8x8 and 8x16 to act as chunky bases.

I don’t remember any W-Wing. Which movie is that from?

Probably one of those pointless spinoffs Disney keeps barfing out.

By in Singapore,

To this day I haven't owned a single Juniors/4+ set with one of these. I've come pretty close — I'm still searching for a good deal on 10686. (I know 41398 exists, but while I like LEGO Friends, I just prefer this set.)

I'm glad the new road plates have a similar design language to these so they wouldn't look out of place together. These are just those with more studs.

It’s two U Wings in close formation.

U-Wing? Like J.R. or Patrick? Nah, I don’t recall any of those being in a Star Wars movie. Sounds like what someone would come up with for a rank amateur fanfic.

I actually really love these! They look really cool, and the flat surfaces are surprisingly useful to me :)

Sets from the late 90s to early 2000s used big chunky brick-thick bases as well :

6097 : Night Lord's Castle - 1997 has 2 x 12x24 bricks
6093 : Flying Ninja Fortress - 1998 has 3x 12x24 bricks
6091 : King Leo's Castle - 2000 has 1x 12x24 bricks (and some 8x8)
4709 : Hogwarts Castle - 2001 has 3x 8x16 bricks (and some 8x8)
4730: The Chamber of Secrets - 2002 has 2x 12x24 and 1x 8x16 bricks

Haha, yes it is definitely the same plate mould used... maybe the height is slightly lower if I'm not mistaken...

Can I be that person to say that I really dislike this part... XD

By in United States,

I love this family of parts. They make a great base for modular landscaping. The 2-plate thickness adds enough rigidity so they can be supported at corners alone, while allowing a solid connection to Duplo at the corners. Also, the sparse studs make it easy to build AND unbuild on top, or even cover the whole thing with plates. The "wing" isn't usual necessary, but not too hard to work around either.

Sure, there are a lot of ST haters, but I thought that everyone liked Rogue One?

Oh, heck no! The instant I saw the droid get shot, I started a mental checklist of all the main characters getting killed, and even called that the guy who “dies” offscreen would come back to save the day...and then die. The only halfway decent movie Disney has released is Solo.

That's fair, but if you keep reading you'll see that I rescind that statement.
