Friends Advent Calendar - Day 11

Posted by ,

We've moved into the kitchen over the last two days, with a really nice standing mixer and a prep station. Considering the kitchen is part of the placemat, and kitchen builds are pretty common in Friends advent calendars, I think it's likely we'll see another build in the kitchen today.

The kitchen theme continues! The stove naturally fits in the kitchen. It's a pleasant surprise that today's build also includes milk and cookies - there are several prior years where the cookies with a plate would have been the build of the day. So far, I've been very pleased with the builds in this calendar.

One of the benefits of these more involved builds is that there's been quite a few spares - yesterday's build had eight spare pieces! Today's it's down to three, but I expect there will be quite an impressive array of spares by the time we're done with the calendar.

8 spare pieces in one day is impressive.

I like collecting all the spares, and then, on day 24, being absolutely amazed at so many new pieces!

The combination of stove, frying pan, milk, and cookies reminds me of this weird story involving one of my college friends. He spent some time teaching English in Japan, and one year at a local festival, one of his students offered him a free sample from their family food stall. It was octopus that had been wrapped in cheese and fried in milk. He said it was odd eating it and being less weirded out by the octopus, because cheese fried in milk develops this bizarre spongy texture that’s not really something you typically seek out for consumption.
