Friends Advent Calendar - Day 21
Posted by MeganL,We've checked a lot of boxes (literallly and figuratively) in this advent calendar so far. We've met each one of the Friends, had a build for each on their interests, and had several splendid small builds befitting the season. As we're heading into the last few days of the calendar, I'm looking forward to what we'll see to finish.
Today is a common build that we see in advent calendars - a lamp post along with a mail box. I like the use of printed piece for the top of the post, as well as using the newer mail piece. White pieces show an appropriate amount of snow.
While this is undoubtedly a festive build, after some of the great little builds we've had in this calendar, this feels like a bit of a let down.

I think that demonstrates how good the calendar has been this year if this feels like a let down

I quite agree, a nice and appropriate festive build of 15 pieces would have been a record in most Friends calendars. I also quite like the printed top of the lamp post, this is a rather rare piece only occurring in one other set (76903-1). Overall, I'm happy with today's suprise.
Lamp post day is always a good day.
I actually think this is a pretty good build. It's light-years ahead of whatever the lamp-post was meant to be in the City calendar, this year.
I'm not sure I like the printed piece, though. I know, that's intensely hypocritical, but there doesn't seem any point to it, or that it adds any necessary detail. They could've just used a grey or black dish. I don't understand the logic to that piece.
So which of the five girls is getting invited to Hogwarts? Both Mia and Andrea have performed magic tricks before. How about the other three?
@Zordboy:
It was available? This is one of those cases where the print doesn’t appear to add anything until you take it away and see how utterly plain the model looks without it.
@PurpleDave: Remember, Hogwarts has no need of mailboxes, they just send owls. (And now I'm picturing what a Friends owl would look like.)

A Friends owl looks like this: 6350031 (set 41688)
I think this is a good one! I am glad I chose the Friends caneldar this year. My Wife bought the Harry Potter, and we both think the friends is the better one this year.
The owls live inside those red boxes, I guess? Better than some other calenders today... Especially considering the prints!
I'm not certain I like the printed lamppost piece. But it does keep the little built from being plain.
Overall I like it. Festive, cute, and appropriate. I'd be ecstatic if the City calendar got something like this.
@TheOtherMike:
Owls just deliver the mail, however they can. What if you have no chimney or letter slot? Do they bust down the door, throw a brick through the window (what’s the airspeed of a fully laden owl?), or give up and drop it in an outdoor mailbox? What if your mailing address is a PO Box? Do they get that, or your actual street address?

YES! That’s exactly how I imagined it!
@Kynareth:
Like if the clockwork owl from the original Clash of the Titans met the Blue Fairy from Disney’s Pinnichio?

From what I've seen, the letters can even show up in the eggs in your fridge...
Not clear on how that happens;
is it the owl's magic or the sender's or is the magic contained in the letter itself?
@YanVanLan:
Well, from what I understand, owls are birds, and...that is as far as I’m going to go down that line of reasoning.
Holy smokes, two printed non-figure elements on a single day?! I really should have gotten this calendar.
@Alatariel: Yeah, that's pretty much what I was picturing. I figured it'd have adorable big eyes.
Another fantastic build! This calendar has really put the other 2021 calendars to shame.
Also, we got an extra printed dish, anyone else?
