City Advent Calendar - Day 17
Posted by MeganL,Yesterday's present was the ninth microscale of the calendar accounting for over half the builds thus far into the calendar. With a week left, hopefully we'll start getting some other kinds of presents behind the door.
Today we have our fourth minifigure, Top Hat Tom. While Tom is featured in several episodes of LEGO City Adventures, this is his first appearance in a set. I like the face print, though because of his top hat, this is not a double sided head. So far of the four minifigures, only one has had an alternate face print. Tom comes with a list to be checked off - perhaps it's his Christmas shopping list?
Festive watch: at least Tom is dressing for the season with a red scarf!

I really like this fig. He's got a lot of of personality, and I'm always happy to get more scarves, although I'm starting to want more colours than orange, lime and red.
Are any of these pieces exclusive?
That's a nice printed tile!

Same here. Outfitting minifigs for my winter village is tough and repetitive.

Yep, the torso and head are. The printed tile is the newer version of the ticked list that's only in one other set according to Bricklink.

I think the torso and head are (at least for now).
Btw am I the only one who doesn't prefer double sided printed heads?
I find the single side printed ones much more versatile in use (with various headgear, not only hair pieces) and would welcome more variety in expressions but then with single sided heads spread out over sets...
Mr. Scroodge?
Is he singing a checklist?
Maybe that's list of places he's caroled at.

Not at all! I agree about the headgear, that it makes it easier for minifigures to turn their heads without being concerned whether the other side shows, and in some cases when the faces have significantly different emotions (like the smile/scared on a law enforcement officer in 5969), it can represent a side of that figure's personality that maybe he or she would like to keep hidden.
(30230 has an example of how dual-sided at its best can represent "gearing up," but usually I'd prefer just one face on the head.)
Only downside is that the top hat can't be stacked to give Tom's characteristic huge pile of hats.
Best thing so far out of this calendar! Caroling away!
Classy fig!
Who wears a scarf without a coat or jacket?
Not to mention that tache.
@MisterBrickster:
Send me your extra red ones! A few years back I made Snoopy with an aviator cap sitting on top of his doghouse. Two concessions I had to make is that they don’t make a regular green aviator cap, and I apparently don’t own a single red scarf.
@gunther_schnitzel:
When I was in grade school, I had a classmate whose winter gear consisted of insulated gloves, and maybe a stocking cap. I don’t remember ever seeing him wear a coat back then, and I don’t remember seeing him after maybe 4th Grade. Some families can’t afford such “luxuries”.
I also knew someone in college who grew up at the northern tip of Wisconsin, and didn’t think our lake-effect winters on the east coast of Lake Michigan were cold enough to warrant wearing a coat most days.

It's like the guys from Yellowknife, NT I met while spring skiing in Alberta. Nice warm day as far as the were concerned so they conceded to a light bobble hat: -25C and I got frostbite in my toes, even with the extra lined boots.
@DoonsterBuildsLego:
There was an episode of Flying Wild Alaska where one of the pilots claims he won’t wear a coat when prepping the plane unless it’s below 0°F, because he’d just end up sweating inside the coat while doing all the physical exertion involved in that process. And he’s got a point, since you never want to sweat in sub-freezing environments. On those occasions when I have to go over and shovel my parents’ driveway, I usually drop my wool coat inside and either do it with a fleece vest or a South Pole hooded sweatshirt over a t-shirt, because otherwise I’d worry that I’d have to mop out the liner of my coat afterwards.
Hmmm...have them even made a figure of the crooks' 'boss' yet...I mean they made one of his step-son (the Doorman)...
Whoops...'them' should be 'they'. as in TLG...
i really loved this one. its mainly why i love the advent city calendar because of this kind of minifigs.
