Marvel Advent Calendar - Day 9
Posted by CapnRex101,Yesterday's model took an unexpected seasonal turn, which is definitely welcome because I think previous designs from this Advent Calendar have seemed relatively bland.
Hopefully the high standard continues today...
The festive theming certainly continues, with a Spider-Man present which looks excellent. The colours are certainly suitable and I like the pearl silver robotic spider on top, resembling a bow! However, I am even more impressed with the second model, inspired by Pepper Potts' creation using Tony Stark's original arc reactor and famously surrounded by the words 'proof that Tony Stark has a heart'.
Despite comprising only four pieces, the mounted arc reactor is immediately recognisable and looks good, The onscreen display case is a cube rather than a dome, but this remains a fun addition to the Marvel Advent Calendar.
Overall - 4.0 - These accessories are appealing and I love this reference to Tony Stark's original arc reactor, which appears throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Love the present for Spidey, and the arc reactor is good enough for the minimal parts involved. Another MCU nod as well. Pretty satisfied with today.
I'd have liked a glow-in-the-dark stud but otherwise pretty good!
What is this spider piece anyway? What was is used for, originally?
@darthnorman:
It’s a robotic spider, but I don’t remember if it originated with Marvel, or some other theme.
I researched it in the database... it was ammunition for an evil faction in the nexo knights universe but was later used as a small spider drone for spider man.
Would’ve loved an arc reactor print on the blue tile
The first time it was used was in some Nexo knights sets in 2018 where it was always a loose piece with a colored transparant 1x1 round tile on it.

Nexo Knights
Oh! The snowglobe was the arc reactor! I had no idea what it was. I just thought it was a weird Christmas snowglobe.
See, this is why I come to Brickset during Advent Calendar time.
Ok, so I want next years Marvel Advent Calendar to be based off of the Disney+ shows. Especially Hawkeye! There are so many things that would make great advent calendar days.
These are neat accessories, and nicely add to the developing Christmas party atmosphere.
As an aside, I think the arc reactor-under-glass is delightful - an immediately recognizable, masterfully executed, minifig-scale LEGO representation of an iconic piece of the MCU,.

That would have been nice. It would probably have been something they could have reused. But I understand why they didn't do that.
ARC Reactor - Avengers Remember Christmas. Strong 4.0, with a trend upward.

I would expect next year's to tie in with the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, but who knows?

Ah, I had forgotten about that! I don’t think any one show or film would be enough for all 24 days. I can think of several things from each show that deserve the “Holliday treatment”. I totally can see them using the GotG holiday special as inspiration for it.
Here's the BS listing for the part for the spider:

Maybe we'll finally get another Drax minifig
Yep, a great day. The spidery themed present is perfectly realised, and the arc reactor is the kind of thing you're shocked wasn't an accessory in an Iron Man set already.
Well, you say the arc reactor is easily recognizable, but I had no idea until I looked here. It does make sense, though, and it is a nice design.

"Love the build for the arc reactor, and the present is cool too, but PLEASe STOP WITH THE IRON MAN STUFF!!!"
Who are you shouting at? The calendar has already been designed, produced and sold; yelling at it won't magically change the content... (should have bought the HPAC for that)
And what exactly did you expect? Batman stuff? It's an Avengers calendar,
Iron Man kinda dominates the team, at least in the movies and on the AC box.
Also: half of this gift is Spider Man themed!
I really hope next year’s calendar is based on Hawkeye. GotG Holiday Special would be good too. Between those two, we should be able to have a good calendar.
@YanVanLan:
I would have bought five copies if it was Batman, instead of the zero that I got of this.
@SlimBrick1:
Patience, young one, we're not even half way through :-)
@PurpleDave :
Really? I wouldn't, I already have enough pieces in black and really, really dark grey ;-)
Meanwhile I welcome more Iron Man stuff since he is the only Avenger I really care about based on the MCU. I liked Thor only with Ragnorak on. Hulk, meh. Spidey is okay. Cap'n is okay, but really only later on. *shrug*
But then again, I don't part sets like this out, so it doesn't matter what's in the box.
For the record, I have a friend who lives in America who's also following this calendar along, and he sent me another message this morning, asking what the snowglobe was? So I don't think it's *that* obviously-recognisable. Some printing on the tile might've helped, but it's an advent calendar, I don't expect too much from them.
I made a similar glass case with arc reactor, but used part 65578 for the mount and part 6223718 (1x1 round imperial insignia) for the arc reactor. It actually didn't fit inside the dome legally but I pressured it a little bit and the result looked very good. It would be cool to get a printed 1x1 for the arc reactor.

I think it's first used in Nexo knights sets
