Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 10

Posted by ,

Diagon Alley has appeared in numerous LEGO sets, hence I am curious to see how the famed location will be represented in the Harry Potter Advent Calendar.

Presumably we will find out today...

Before purchasing any equipment, we must first enter Gringotts Wizarding Bank! This wooden desk looks marvellous, including attractive scrollwork across the front, with a nice blending of reddish brown and dark brown elements. The spherical lamp also originates directly from the movie and contrasts perfectly against the muted desk.

Turning the model around reveals several available studs where a goblin may stand, elevated above any visiting wizards. Presumably a minifigure to occupy those studs will be forthcoming shortly.

Overall - 4.0 - The desk captures excellent detail from The Philosopher's Stone, but presently provides limited play value.

Realizing that we're doing vignettes, there really should be a second lamp there. Argh.

Should the 1x4 brick be connected to the 2x4 plate instead? It's not entirely clear from the instructions on the door but that's how it looks on the box.

You mentioning it made me check how I build mine and for sure... I build mine differently than here and more to the way you explained

@BrickAstley:
I did figure that out from the instructions (so this is built incorrectly), but I had to intuit where to put the 1x1 round brick.

Thank you, I have corrected the model and photos. Such are the dangers of building about five minutes after waking up!

By in Finland,

I got the goblin dude today even though the instructions showed this model. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get this one instead, or maybe I'll get a second goblin.

I wish I'd scrolled down further before I spent ages trying to work out where the mistake was!

By in United States,

This looks really well done, especially for the scale. I do like that lamp. I rewatched part of Sorcerer's Stone the other night.

I also think this rubs a little salt in the wound for all the people hoping/wishing for a Gringotts in 2022.

@CapnRex101:
You should wait until at least ten minutes after waking up. Seriously, though, this particular model has the same problem as the Home Alone instructions, which are that it’s very hard to see the lines on such a dark shade of brown. For Home Alone, I basically had to rely on the assumption that all brick bricks would have the brick side facing out, and where it made the most sense to place a few 1x1 bricks (I was at a show, and didn’t really have a way to improve the lighting). For this, I peeked at the box front, made one educated guess, and relied a bit on my sense of spatial geometry. And a flashlight, because I open the end of the box, leave the days unpunched, and store everything back in the tray when I’m finished.

I have been opening mine in a more random order, but I got two of the same for one of the days (I won't spoil since its a later day than 10), sop you most likely will end up getting two goblins!! Weird why this seems to be happening a lot lately though!
