Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 12
Posted by CapnRex101,Griphook conducts Harry Potter and Hagrid into the vaults situated beneath Gringotts Wizarding Bank and something from these vaults could be appropriate today.
The packaging certainly provides a clue...
Matching the rails printed on the Advent Calendar box, today we receive a cart for accessing the vaults. This model is inevitably basic and shares little with the onscreen vehicle, but I appreciate the space for two minifigures and the golden lamp at the front looks perfect. However, the lights situated at the rear seem strange, visually unbalancing the cart.
I received an additional 1x2 grille tile today, so let me know if you did as well in the comments.
Overall - 3.5 - This model is appealing for play, especially with room for two minifigures, but its appearance leaves something to be desired.

Also got another grille tile (it's fun to say grille tile)
It reminds me of the old polybags, together with Griphook from previous day.
Also WHEEELS! It might not be much but it's an actual mini cart that can be played by a kid (I know one who loved any tiny car I had in my collection, even the small basic ones)
I also received and additional grille tile today. The overall layout of this little calendar is very charming. Thank you for the daily posts:)
I find the use of the 2x2 jumper plates quite strange as it makes it awkward to position the minifigs on the cart.

Two 2x2 tiles with two studs on them would've been better and still structurally sound.

Me too. Looks like the figures has to sit on off position due to the jumperplate.
Ether left or right side of the cart.
Same, also got a little grille tile, it's such a weird inclusion. Ah well, free lego?
Plus I totally had this thing backwards in my head, the pic didn't help much with orientating this thing correctly. Granted now I know it's on the box but I've taken rly hard not to stare at it too much to be spoiled.
I think having the minifigs a little offset on the cart due to the jumper plates is actually nice. That way one can look over the shoulder of the other.
I thought the second grille tile would go on the Space plate that serves as the rear headlights, but it’s not visible in the instructions. I would have expected a spare of the gold lantern long before a second grille tile. As for the mount points for the minifigs, the box art shows Griphook attaches in front by his right leg, and Harry standing behind attached by his left leg.

I’ve seen enough tiny wheelbases that I know they would have required a 2x4 something in there somewhere. For Mighty Micros, they made a 4x4 double-fender piece just for that reason.
Yes I got an extra grill. By the way, I used the train tracks from the Daily Bugle with 2 studs in between and this cart works perfectly.
So we're halfway through the calendar, and they haven't even made it to Hogwarts yet?

It's journey *to* Hogwarts.

Yes but there is already a 2x2 plate in the build that connects both "wheel axle" 2x2 plates. Another two 2x2's on top, again offset by one stud, would be almost as structurally sound as using a 2x4 up top.
@StarWarzFan7777:
So test it out, like they would. Take this model, and swap out the 2x4 with any pair of 2x2’s. Set it on a hard surface, and press down on it in a variety of different ways and see if you can do so in a way that cause one of the axle plates to separate from the rest of the model. I’ve been burned on that sort of thing before. Of the cars I’ll actually display, the oldest dates back to late 2006 or early 2007. It was almost a decade later that I discovered that if you pressed down in just the right spot, the entire front end of the car would shear off of the passenger compartment. Just one simple change of replacing two 1x4 bricks (one black, one the color of the body) with a 2x4 brick interrupted the shear plane and made the entire front end stable even when you pressed down on that same spot.
I had an extra grill tile and a clear round.
If the regular 2x2 plates with bearings were used, it would compatible with the 6-wide track system that debuted in 7199 .
