Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 14

Posted by ,

The entrance to Harry Potter's vault underneath Gringotts appeared on day thirteen, but nothing was provided within. Hopefully opening the next Advent Calendar door will rectify this!

Find out below...

As expected, a generous heap of gold arrives today. I would certainly rather this had been supplied with the door, but understand the need to divide the model because both already contain a fair number of pieces. That has also allowed the designer to provide a suitably large pile of pearl gold 1x1 round plates and ingots.

Additionally, these golden pieces are attached to a 2x6 bracket, which enables easy connection with yesterday's opening door. The two models certainly work nicely together.

Overall - 4.0 - While I dislike splitting the Gringotts vault across two days, I think the completed assembly looks superb for its size.

the gold pile is quite sad... would harry have enough for even some simple robed and wand?

Should have been a purple stud on the bottom to really show how rich he is.

While the complete vault is certainly nice looking, the rating for today's 'build' is rather generous, IMHO.

I think I have a small PaB cup full of those somewhere. Or it might be one of the PaB bauble ornaments.

Regarding yesterday, if they actually completed the frame, the door is small enough that the minifigs would have to crawl through on hands and knees. Open top means they can walk through like a western saloon gate.

Oh, man. I didn't realize the sideways studs were meant for attaching the build to yesterday's... I feel quite stupid now.

And this is an instance where Chrome Gold is severely missed. Pearl gold just doesn't have that same appealing sparkle, at least not to me.

You didn't think your parents would leave you with nothing, didja Harry?

I just watched this movie the other day for inspiration for a MOC.

I think this adds enough appeal for an Advent calendar, but I would like to see a larger pile of course.

I sympathise. I seem to be making a lot of dumb mistakes building this advent calendar

I quite like this. Having multiple bits that join together to form more substantial builds is a nice idea I've not seen before in an advent calendar.

Assuming that each 1x2 represents a 400 troy ounce "good delivery" bar, at today's gold price of ~£1340 per troy ounce, each bar is worth about £536,000. As there are four bars, with a total value of £2,144,000, that should be enough for some very fancy robes indeed :)

Not the most secure idea for a bank vault, I feel

It’s been done quite a few times. Marvel already has a chain thing going with their first calendar, HP had a threefer last year, and I think the record was four days to build a gatehouse one year in City.

@bemahan:
Keep in mind the place is infested with goblins. They’ve got 2d6 hit points each, and tend to attack in large packs that make melee combat difficult. And you never know, one of them might be friends with a Balrog.
