Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 15

Posted by ,

After withdrawing some money from Gringotts, Harry purchases differing items he will need for studying at Hogwarts. I anticipate this shopping expedition will be represented today.

Find out which shop we visit below...

Ollivanders and Flourish and Blotts are probably the most famous shops in Diagon Alley, hence a wand box and a book arrive today. The wand box is undoubtedly the highlight because this dark brown element is only otherwise available in 75978 Diagon Alley! Harry's wand is placed inside and a spare is included on the sprue, as always.

The opening book is welcome too, but I was disappointed to find no printing on the tan 1x2 tile inside. Perhaps one of the designs from the Hogwarts Moments series could have returned here.

Overall - 4.0 - While these accessories are not necessarily exciting in isolation, the wand box is extremely appealing!

What, no signed copy of Gilderoy Lockhart's "Magical Me"? Clearly TLG and I differ in what constitutes a trip to Flourish and Blott's...

Wrong book/film; but yes, any magic textbook print would have been nice...

Hey @CapnRex101, I normally agree with your assessments and ratings, but a 4.0 score for a couple of accessories seems pretty generous. I agree that the wand box is a rare part, and is exciting to see one here, but it feels like today could have included a few more parts and pieces.

I wonder why the lid isn't a standard 1x3 tile but a double jumper? Looks odd.

This is one of the times I'm okay with an advent calendar minifig not coming with their accessory

Boring. What's with the top of the wand box? Should've been a tile instead.

Also known as the Hogwarts Accessory Pack

what about cauldron (pewter, size 2) ? or are we getting 3 days of accessories == and I'm guessing here... to build up on a cart

Should be at leat the feather printed tile inside, not just blank one :// or smth alluding to Fantastic beast as he had to get that book first year (had to check, but would be nice to have that book in lego form)

I am so glad I passed on the HP calendar this year. It's just not measuring up.

@maaboo35 :
Magic, indeed, if he was able to find a copy to purchase one year before it will be released. This is the beginning of Year 1, not Year 2.

Fair enough, but I was taking into account that the wand box will be new to many people, given the expense of 75978 Diagon Alley. Regardless, the scores simply reflect how I feel about an item as I think defined ratings are essentially useless, fun though they can be.

Fair enough on why you give the set a 4.0. It's like giving the inexpensive Mandalorian set with Grogu a high score because it's a far cheaper way to get the minifig than the large ship (and it's a decent set, to boot).

The studs are there to make it so you can stack the boxes or other items on it without them slipping off. Would a tile have made it look better? Arguably, yes.
Should it have been a tile? Not necessarily.

FB would have been superb! A History of Magic by Bathilda Bagshot too.
I would have been thrilled with any of the other six as well, tbh... (althought they don't really feature in the movies, so I'm not getting my hopes up they'll ever turn up in a set)

Yeah, I'm not seeing the value with this one. A second book and printed covers/pages would have made this a fantastic day, but this is just extremely barebones. The wandbox is definitely nice though, and I hope we see that part used a lot more!

This year’s calendar is such a step down compared to 2020 :(
