Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 1

Posted by ,

LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendars originate ten years ago and several enjoyable calendars have followed. 75307 Star Wars Advent Calendar may therefore achieve similar success.

See what is behind door number one below...

Snowbound planets, including Hoth and Starkiller Base, have frequently appeared on the packaging for LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendars. The Mandalorian introduced another such location, named Maldo Kreis, which inspired this artwork. The fissures from the onscreen planet are present here, but the design otherwise appears rather dull. Covering it with minifigures and mini models should rectify that!

75279 Star Wars Advent Calendar, released last year, contained a good rendition of the Razor Crest, but this example is significantly better. The proportions are notably improved, especially as the engines are positioned further from the fuselage. Moreover, I like the dark tan highlights decorating either flank.

The texture across the top appears excellent too, combining light and dark bluish grey parts to good effect. The laser cannons also compare favourably with the onscreen vessel, replacing black elements which were employed previously. However, the cockpit remains unchanged, capturing the shape with reasonable accuracy as well.

Overall - 5.0 - This model faithfully recreates the shape of the original Razor Crest and features splendid detail, considering its tiny scale.

I'd love to see more compare/contrast photos with past AC models in the future. I had to Google an image of last year's Razor Crest to see what changed. It's mostly the same, except for the fuselage attachments and a few color swaps.

By my count, there's going to be a few repeats/remodels this year.

I was also quite impressed when I put this model together this morning. Plus, 7 extra pieces because of all the 1x1s in the model.

Am I the only one who thinks these mini razor crests are too long? Maybe the scale is just thrown off for me from promotional images, but it seems like it's been stretched out.

Yes! Would love to see visual comparisons when they're mentioned in the writing.

The tan cladding on the sides is definitely an improvement over the exposed holes from last year. This has a more finished look (rarely seen on the show). Agree completely with the mounting of the engine nacelles from the top, allowing them to sit wider.

5.0 to start is going to be a tough act to follow, no wiggle room.

Since this is Maldo Kreis, going to have to add a spider to display (to scale).

I know these micromodels are not for everyone, but as one of the people who really digs them, this was an excellent start to this calendar. A nice little build to start the day, even if it doesn't necessarily add to your wider SW collection.

I see he rebuilt it after last year.

Too soon?

Some people would still call that a spoiler.

Those spare pieces are the pieces to make the 'battle damaged' version ;)

No razor crest behind number 1 for me, got a scout trooper instead. Wonder if I get the razor crest in the scout trooper slot or another scout trooper. Or maybe I've got 24 scout troopers, I'll have to wait and see.

A noticeable improvement over last year's version, but that wasn't a very high bar.

Your tray may be in the wrong way round. Perhaps your Razor Crest is behind 23? And our 23 is a Scout Trooper?

I wonder if lego planned the microfighter razorcrest to be revealed on today, where the razorcrest was the build of the advent calendar, would be pretty cool

An excellent start to the Advent Calendar. Clearly this is the way!

I’m happy with it. Of course the stars of the ACs are the minifigures, but it’s nice when the mini models are well-done, too.

By in Australia,

I’ll take this over the new micro fighter any day!

By in Canada,

I always take a quick glance at the brickset pictures back in early August, just to see what is in it, then forget about it, thus am completely surprised come December, when I actually open the calendar. Unfortunately, this year I have still not forgotten the [spoiler alert ahead... stop reading if you don't want to know] fact that there is three ****ing gun racks in this years calendar. I am glad that today was not one of those days, and I WILL be disappointed on all 3 of those days when I do open and build them.

Check out @minifiglife on Instagram - he compares each day's build to that day's build from all the Star Wars calendars.

I'd say out of all the licensed themed advent calendars, Marvel won the first day.
