By in United States,

The sunflowers look great, I like the postcard idea, and the Friends sets look fantastic! I like seeing City branching out to cover things like school days, too.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I don't get why they included the clone commander in 40558 . Sure its a cheaper way to get an exclusive minifigure, but its a figure people don't really care about. There was potential to have something great like Captain Rex or Commander Cody but Lego just borrowed a minifigure from the UCS Republic Gunship and made the set even less appealing.

Wa-hey! Lovely ideas so far- a school?! A large hospital?!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Speaking as someone with a lot of young children those Duplo Tub sets look adorably amazing.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

An interesting and eclectic range, particularly the postcards which feel like more 'cartoonish' architecture skylines - and if they sell can see future cities like London, Paris, DC etc all becoming 'picture postcards'. What's also interesting is what's not there, the 2022 modular but I am happy to wait for the bigger splash announcement for that which must be due any day now.

You're a star @Huw

By in United Kingdom,

My thoughts were exactly as @MeganL. Even though I'm not a fan, the Friends sets look particularly strong.
Plus, some construction vehicles in City. And I see plenty of new parts, a nice tiger, the return of Classic Space logo on the space sets, and on and on.
It's a pretty strong line up.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is going to be expensive next year....

Gravatar
By in United States,

41695 and 41704 look like they have a promising part that I've been wanting for a while: a double door frame! I hope it becomes more widely available soon, since it's a good way to make double doors without a jamb between the two doors. It's also nice to see the chopsticks piece in a less expensive set; I'd really like to grab some of those for my ramen/sushi restaurant. Friends is really looking great! And it's nice to see City continue to offer civilian sets.

And I love 60350 Lunar Research Base!

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

Oh my god, a Friends mini-modular street 41704. I'm definitely getting that. Those colors are EXACTLY how I've always envisioned my layout to be. I bet it was just so they could use the lavender brickwork. And there's even a working elevator! Apparently the bees from Winnie-the-Pooh have also found their way into Heartlake City.

DOTS charms! Extra DOTS - Series 6! Kind of a bummer that 41948 is so similar to 41906, though. There's also a bracelet in the Disney Princess set 43203!

New bank set with too many vehicles bumping up the price, once again. There's barely much of a bank. School doesn't have the same vehicle overload issue as the bank, but there's still just not much of a school. But is the kid on a wheelchair using medium legs?

New mobile crane! 4+ mixer truck I could use the parts for a more advanced rebuild! Park set! I like 60321! And the new hospital is miles better than the last!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

After a very quick Skim I now want 48....... its just started.... 2022 will be expensive........

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I do remember a time when I would be genuinely excited for a new police station (or at least seeing all the crazy locations like swamp police) but now I am just impressed how each police station is somehow worse than the last. I didn’t think a set would be able to make 60246 look good, but here we are. I await to see what horrors await us in 2023 ;P

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like that tiger 3-1 set a lot.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Love the concept of 40518 High-speed train. Smaller trains, would be awesome if it came with matching rails. I'd collect more trains in this scale.

Gravatar
By in United States,

My initial observations:
- They are really leaning into the new neon yellow with the Fire theme.
- The 6-wide double door frame will be a hot item for buildings MOCs.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The city sets are stepping up a notch. I had given up on city after this disastrous past year, but this has renewed my faith. Prices look so much better and THOSE CLASSIC SPACE LOGO MINIFIGURES IN THE CITY SETS. Must have for my space station.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

That's gotta be the highest amount of variation for any City wave!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love the Picnic in the Park, especially the squirrels!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Lego City sure has a lot of ice cream despite not having had any cows for a while! Maybe this summer?

All around a really nice lineup, Friends and City are both looking to have a good year, I'm liking the sunflowers and am intrigued by the future of the postcards line!

"30625 Blue milk Luke, depending on how expensive it is. "

It's supposed to be included in the long delayed video game - if it's ever released :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Police car, Creator tiger, and City Moonbase and Rocket Launch for me! The Friends canal boat has really awesome hull parts like the ones in Bowser's Airship but I think I oughta get those from Bricks and Pieces instead, if possible.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Has the City theme used NASA branding before? It's interesting that 60351 has NASA branding for on the SLS but the rest is classic Space. I guess NASA needed TLG's help to finally get the SLS off the ground.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Is that neon-highlighter-yellow in the City emergency sets a new colour?

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Excuse my vent but I got an adrenaline rush when looking at the new City stuff so I typed this behemoth. Enjoy or get annoyed, it’s up to you. This is pretty accurate to how my mind would sound at such moments btw.

Big dome piece oh my gaaawd! Wot, does that walkway tunnel thing elevate up? Since when do City have inventive play features? Ooh Astroneer/No Man’s Sky astronauts! Blegh what is that new color? It’s so ugly, it looks like toxic glow-in-the-dark urine! Why are they using it so much? Not a single use I’ve seen looks good! Hey there’s another glass-enclosed surgery room, good thing it’s so high up so the kids won’t see inside! The hospital is actually really cool, not even that upset with the pee vehicles here as the teal somewhat neutralizes the look. OH MY WHAT IS THIS A DREAM? Is that a SCHOOL in City? This is revolutionary! School bus awful tho lol Ooooh a beach set! Solid builds and accessories there, love the road system pathway integration. SQUIRREL!!! Gulp! How is there a non-yellow crane truck in LEGO City? Actually, what was the last time we got a crane truck at all? Most importantly, why does this look so good? Oh huh that race car is 4+, doesn’t look too bad! Yuck, why do the fire brigade have urine on them as well?!! Is this some new form of recycling? I’d rather not find out! That fire station is thinnn but with a very interesting design. Aha another bank! This looks pretty good, for some background scenery anyway. Hey and it’s a helicopter without wheels for landing, surprisingly effective to create a distinct look! Oh that new angular design is on the police building as well, neat. WHY DOES THE POLICE HAVE PEE ON THEM TOO?!! Hahaha it’s an actual ice launcher, very well integrated too! Amazing to see more variety in the crooks every year. Oh hey that police car is badass, looks almost like one of the 6-wide Speed Champions! Wait hold on, how is City suddenly great? This goes against my programming! Stop this madness now before I *nuke explodes*

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

As for Ninjago:

Oh that’s a pretty temple

Wow that’s a weird dragon but sorta cool I guess, awful color choices tho

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

@patch said:

Looks like it! It's neither quite spring yellowish green nor cool yellow. It's much more vibrant. I think it's meant to evoke high-visibility gear.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Yet more Police sets for the City range?
Yawn...

Where is the Modular?!?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Lots of really fun stuff to look forward do, thanks for sharing!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I love the sunflowers. I'm guessing they will go out of stock very quickly, like the roses, as people will want at least six!

I'm constantly refreshing the various IG Lego-leak pages in hopes to see the 2022 Modular.

Let's see some pictures! :)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'm impressed with City! Lots of variety, and it's great to see subject matter we haven't seen in a while (that hospital!) or indeed ever (a school, finally! it's tiny, but better than nothing). I like the unusual colour schemes, too -- the mobile crane stands out in particular.

Love the look of the Lunar Research Base! The dome especially. Closest we'll get to a proper Space theme this year I suppose.

That's quite possibly the worst police station ever, though. I appreciate them trying a different design, but... yuck.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The combi-mech looks amazing

Gravatar
By in United States,

A+ from Creator - Tiger, sunflowers, and postcards all look great

A-B range for Friends, City, and Monkie Kid

Low marks for Ninjago. Really disappointing wave other than the dojo

Gravatar
By in Italy,

the new police and fire stations are awful!

It's incredible, but 6386 Police Command Base (my first police station) had half the parts of the new one and looks twice as big! What happened to Lego?

And, in the past 10 years, all police stations have gotten worse! please compare:
7498 (2011), 60047 (2014), 60141 (2017) and, of course, the new 60136 (2022) ...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Not sure how to feel about the 'Creator' train.
It's not even a 3-in-1, in fact per the packaging it's really a 0.5-in-1 as you need two for a full train.

On the other hand, trains are cool, more trains is always good, and great to see trains in a new scale.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

The picnic in the park set is pretty, with its brown and black squirrels and acorn tiles!

The only previous Town/City playscale space set to use NASA branding was the very first one, set 1682 Space Shuttle Launch way back in 1990. Everything since then in Town, City, and Creator (not Ideas, Discovery, or Creator Expert) except for 60351 has used generic logos that don't represent any real-world space agency. TLG has always been open and PR-proud about collaborating with NASA to design and promote their Town/City playscale space sets, but traditionally the sets themselves haven't had any explicit NASA branding.

Gravatar
By in United States,

These new Friends sets are incredible! Both (1) adding the darker brown to compliment the brighter colors a few waves back and (2) adding multiple minidolls to the Advent calendars have really paid off for the line.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Minecraft sets are so good! Axolotls!! But what on earth is going on with that red creeper??

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I like the moonbase. The tiger is nice, as is the little train. Have to say that the friends' designers have excelled themselves!

Gravatar
By in United States,

42134. Megalodon. That is all. :)

(I do like the Sunflowers too!)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Lunar Ice Festival, City of Lanterns, and Majestic Tiger are 3 good ones for me. Moon base has potential too.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Friends architecture continues to outpace the empty shells of City. Including road(base)plates with city(town) sets should not necessitate the elimination of roofs or even walls. They've done it before.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I think I would’ve liked for that train to be minifigure scale so that’s a little disappointing.

But on the plus side, we have our first official Town/City school, which is fantastic. A bit odd it’s missing a wall (add ons to come?) but I’ll take what I can get.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Those DUPLO sets really tug at the heartstring...!

I think a lot of MOC-makers are going to be interested in those Friends sets.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

ooh look! Lots of new Police and Fire sets! Just what your Lego town needs, we haven't seen them for ages!!!!

Not.

Did you see that Mech? It looks fantastic. Obviously the fact that half of the Ninjago sets are aimed as intro products will make them look weaker, but the Dojo and Mech are brilliant :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm happy to see a hospital on the list. My town needs A LOT more ICU beds because nobody is masked except for the space men in helmets and a bunch of animal cosplayers.

The train set number starts with 40, so it's like the recent Yellow Taxi and the Tuk-Tuk. Creator 3-in-1 sets start with 31.

Gravatar
By in Brazil,

There's a few Ninjago sets (the smaller ones) that I can't identify if they are Juniors or not. On other hand, the larger sets look fantastic, especially 71765. Loved the Super Sentai aspect of it, a must buy for sure.

About City: FINALLY A SCHOOL! It looks great, as does the Hospital and the Space sets. The Police and Fire Station look terrible on other hand.

And lastly, such a shame that 40518 is a promo set! It should have been a large scale 31xxx Creator set. The Shinkansen style of it is very nice.

Gravatar

A bit of a Squirrel invasion in Lego city

Gravatar
By in United States,

I don't think I've seen a mention of this yet.

According to the listings on the Lego website, 42137 Porsche 99x Electric and 42138 Ford Shelby Cobra, which seem like they're intended to continue the theme of small-ish licensed Technic cars from 42123 McLaren Senna GTR and 42093 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, have pull-back motors and app integration. I have generally totally steered away from any app-integrated sets, but the real bummer is the presence of the pull-back motors seems to have resulted in a noticably reduced part count. Same price as the Senna and Corvette though, of course.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I was really happy to see a Formula-E car in the lineup and then disappointed when I saw it has the pullback motor.

I'll probably still get it anyway, as it does look great.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

The creator train is hideous! What were they thinking!

Most of the city line is just there because of the new road system. I get that it's a kid's line, but do we really need a new police/fire cars/stations EVERY year ?

The school bus is nice, but would've been so much better if it was under "great vehicles" sub-theme by its own. Cement truck is 4+, which sucks, as I was hoping for a "great vehicles" one. Crane is good.

Oh well, better luck next time.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Darn you LEGO for tempting me out of yet more money that should be going towards the mortgage - my wife is not going to be happy!

Some great sets, my favorites are the Tiger and Postcards and the Chinese New Year ones - it's also great to see a City hospital and school even though the execution could've been better. Horrible police and fire sets (minus the car) as usual.

It makes sense to me for them NOT including Commander Cody - he's quite unique and you wouldn't want lots of him in your clone army...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Some great sets in there! I got super excited seeing Castle in the Forest until I remembered/realized it's from the Bricklink Designer Program, not an actual mass-produced set.

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

Honestly, I am only interested in: Moon Base, Friends Main Street, Doctor Strange, Wolverine, AT-ST, SnowTrooper BP, Rebel Troopers, Crane and Cement Truck with somewhat eying the Monkey Kid City set.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

80109: Lunar New Year Ice Festival is on my Chinese New Year want list. Next years Winter Village under my Christmas Tree will look Epic with a skating Rink added.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Excluding the Minifig Series and the Bricklink sets I have 19 added to my list. The City sets are amazing for 2022 with a great variety - 60322 Race Car, 60324 Mobile Crane, 60326 Picnic in the Park, 60327 Horse Transporter, 60328 Beach Lifeguard Station, 60329 School Day, 60330 Hospital plus more Space sets 60350 Lunar Research Base and 60351 Rocket Launch Centre. The Space sets are surprising as there is currently a Space wave. We haven't had sets this good in years.

Another great batch of Creator sets - 31129 Majestic Tiger, 40518 High-Speed Train, 40524 Sunflowers. The stripes on the Tiger are fantastic.

I like the addition of 40557 Defense of Hoth. Expected considering the Imperial battle pack but the numbering is odd. I'd have expected a set in the 75XXX range.

Overall a good batch of sets and I'm ecstatic about City. 2021 at $110 was my lowest outlay for City sets since 2008 when I bought zero sets (and, therefore, zero dollars of sets).

Gravatar
By in Portugal,

@Huw
42138 is not a Shelby Cobra, but a Mustang instead;)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Also want to give a shout out to the incredibly strong Friends line, especially 41703 Friendship Tree House, which will make a dynamite addition to a minifig City layout for those not normally interested in minidoll Friends sets.

And Police and Fire continue to be near trash-level.

Gravatar
By in Norway,

One of my favourite sets from my childhood in the 80s was the fire- and poilce stations.... I feel really, REALLY sorry for todays kids. I'm talking about 60316 and 60320. Omg..., what ARE those?!? On the other side I looove the The Friends Street Food Market 41701 (with some modifications), the Canal Houseboat 41702, the Friendship Tree House 41703, the Main Street Building 41704 and the ice cream truck in Ice Cream Truck Police Chase 60314. And lets not forget the AWESOME The City of Lanterns 80036, Lunar New Year Traditions 80108 and the Lunar New Year Ice Festival 80109!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Squirrels!

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

It appears "China" wins hands down: Monkie Kid sets, Chinese New Year sets and the only truly amazing set for me: 40540 Lion Dance Guy.

Gravatar
By in Italy,

Overall great stuff, considering the last few years' offers.

Now a question to the much more informed ones in the community: about those Bricklink Designer Program sets, does it mean they'll be available to anyone for purchase or will they just be sent to whomever preordered them?

I think that the app won't really be necessary for the functionality of the model, but more like an extra. Looks like it's meant to scan the vehicle with your phone camera, probably to show the internal workings or something like that.

By in Australia,

Definitely excited for the Hospital and School. Love that Friends Treehouse and the Creator Postcards. Disappointed in the Marvel and Star Wars offerings so far.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

On the back box art for 60350 it is also showing that it will connect to an as-yet unannounced space rover vehicle 60348.

Gravatar

DOUBLE DOORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gravatar

A NASA rocket with Lego Space badges in the same set.

Duh- already mentioned!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm not sure about the new fluorescent yellow color. I's kind of close to a couple of existing colors. And are they discontinuing an old color? Last time we got a new color (vibrant coral) (not counting additives/variants like the opalescent colors) transparent fluorescent blue got discontinued, and I think Lego has a policy on stuff like that. Next time we get a new color, I would like it to be a reddish orange color. IMO, that is one of, if not the, biggest gaps in the color palette.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is "Gargantos Showdown" the official name of 76205? Is the movie really going to change Shuma-gorath's name for no reason?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Loving 910009-1, but think yours, Huw, is the original and best :-)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I can't seem to find any colors missing from the color palette, and I just realized that there is an interesting new piece in a couple of the Mario sets. It looks like part 11458, but with the pin hole rotated 90 degrees.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Just the 3-in-1 tiger for me, out of those. That looks stunning.

But I'm also looking forward to the modular building, and above all, the Ideas globe. Possibly also Sonic Mania, depending how it turns out. And any good Iron Man sets that appear. And...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I haven't scoured the pictures yet but initially it looks like a great start to 2022.

*Monkie Kid - look very good (much better than the last wave)
*Chinese Traditional - look great
*City Space - really like what I see but want to go back to see how well these fold in with the last series
*City City - outside of the very nice looking hospital and picnic, these continue to bother me. It looks like they gave up on the actual builds for City once we started adding the faux roads to every set. Police Station, Fire Station and School are unfortunately easy passes.
*Creator Tiger - looks wow
*Creator Train - looks ew
*Sunflowers!

The coup de grace for me, though, was seeing the BLDP sets in that query. On one hand, I got really excited remembering that they were coming and on the other hand, I got sad that I passed on that darn boat. :o)

Gravatar
By in United States,

It looks like Creator is spawning a "tourist" subtheme of sorts, that started last year with the Yellow Taxi and Tuk Tuk. Like, intended to be souvenirs from distant Lego stores, maybe? That would explain the city "postcard" sets and the bullet train could be another foreign vehicle too.

It also looks like Lego is using the 40XXX number series as a catch-all, or maybe just smaller exclusives.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Well, I just checked the "I want this set" box on a lot of stuff! =-)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I see some Pigsy's Food Truck influence on that City egg truck.

That Friend's treehouse echoes the Elves treehouse from their final wave.

Love seeing Dots / Disney crossover. And also Dots resuming innovation with this new set of charms, I cannot wait to see how I can MOC them. btw Dots bracelets are the ideal octopus tentacle, don't know why the Dr. Strange set didn't use them: https://www.instagram.com/p/CW_Sp6NJ1ey/

And it's nice seeing Asian architecture mixed in with Western architecture. Hopefully that will start putting an end to commenters assuming that anything vaguely Asian are made to appease the Chinese market, as if Western architecture were "normal."

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

I might just get myself a 60314 Ice Cream Truck Police Chase! Two loveable villains, nice costumes, and a nice ice-cream-truck to finally introduce the ice-cream-gang in the all-out food war going on in my modular display.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The new Friends sets look gorgeous! But with the change to 2022 in Brickset's drop-down menu, Friends seems to have left the list of quick links. Could that be fixed @Huw?

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Apart from some sets we've already seen before not much that stands out:
* Tiger looks, well ....... pretty Majestic!
* Technic rather disappointing (I wonder if that Porsche has more stickers than parts?), only the Megalodon looks great for such a typical play set.
* I do really like the idea of those postcard sets, but the Beijing one simply doesn't remind me of Beijing and both rely way too much on stickers. Looking forward for more of these though.
* The high-speed train.....looks very plain and makes me wonder even more why Lego hardly has any normal train sets anymore (let alone affordable ones...).
* I do like both Space sets and the Mobile Crane (though pricey....), most other City sets look just okay, nothing special.
* The big Friends sets are quite nice.
* Ninja Ultra Combo Mech looks like a very cool set, other Nijago sets a bit meh.
* Robot Inventor is great, don't care much for the other figs.
* I will get the Singapore set, but only when it drops below 40....

Gravatar
By in United States,

I really like 71767 Ninja Dojo Temple, but I’m kind of confused where it fits into the timeline... it looks a lot like the one from 2014 but the characters look modern.

Also, I’m just loving the Star Wars battle and minifigure packs, as well as the Ashoka BrickHeadz. I may not purchase the latter because I’m not a huge BrickHeadz fan, but if I buy any of them it will be that one.

Gravatar

The list is cached for 24 hours or so, and as the Friends sets have only just been added they'll appear when it is next refreshed.

The list normally contains only themes with >= 5 released sets to avoid it being too long although in December it shows next year's themes rather than this year's so I remove the requirement for them to be released.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Love the look of some of the Friends sets - the street food market is a definite for my food truck collection. I might be tempted by the treehouse and street and canal boat well, they look so detailed and fun.

Not much of City that attracts me (some of the set names could have been written by AI/machine learning based on previous City set names) but I assume all the police chase/fire rescue stuff sells well to the target audience. The picnic in the park is cute but I was hoping for some more farm sets after this year's excellent tractor. I suppose that the horsebox sort of counts but it's not one I want. Give us some sheep, cows and goats LEGO.

Also loving the sunflowers. Hope they come up with some more for the botanical collection too.

Woah, that red Creeper from Minecraft is neat. Is it a variant from Dungeons? I don't recognize it...

The Banana Pencil Holder seems a bit derivative of the Pineapple one we basically just got.

Monster Jam Megalodon is neat. We need more stuff like that to spice up Technic!

Given how much the Ninjago fanbase memed that Jay Mech I'm surprised they made a new one for Lloyd. Speaking of Ninjago, I don't know if it's how they did the CGI renders this year but they look WIERD!!! Love the idea of a Ninjago Voltron though!

Reading through that tweet thread someone attached about Ninjago, making a System equivalent to CCBS is a bold move. Not a good move, not a bad move, but certainty out there!

Man I really want Gargantos Showdown. Not a big fan of Marvel, nor Doctor Strange specifically, but that eldritch beast is SO COOL!!! You know... with stuff like the Preeminent from Ninjago and The Maw from Hidden Side LEGO has seemed more open to depicting cosmic horrors in their media. This is a long shot, but the BIONICLE fan in me has to ask... please give us a Tren Krom set! It will without a doubt cause controversy among Bonk fans but like.... we gotta get a visual depiction of him someday...

Pretty clear that there is no pandemic happening in Lego City, and that's great to see. I think most of us enjoy this hobby to escape from the real world, not to be reminded of it. I would hope that TLG has a firm policy of treating the pandemic in the same way as modern conflict, i.e. not a topic for children's play.

I love the zany colors and designs in the new City and Friends sets; I'm excited for the mobile crane and all of the vehicles at least look different from one another, if not entirely realistic in some cases. They do seem like they're really going for kid appeal in the evergreen themes, and honestly it's really cool to see how they pull it off aesthetically.

EDIT: Also, did anyone else notice the return of the classic hazmat guy in the fire station?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Pretty nice stuff! I can't speak for the piece to price ratio, but I'll defend the police and fire station aesthetically by pointing out the use of diagonal elements. They add a lot imo.

Also that one criminal with the ice cream disguise wearing a prison stripe apron is hilarious.

Tiger, Dr.Strange's noodly dood, and Nehza's Fire Ring have my attention!

CITY COMMENTS:

TOP MISS: The school is the greatest disappointment, especially for the price (I was looking forward to this one). The bus, I mean most of us can do better. Too bad and I do want that teacher fig - I wore almost the exact outfit the other day at work (as a teacher)!

TOP HIT: Hospital is creative and pretty cool as are the Lunar Research Base and Launch Center. Definitely the highlights.

MY WALLET: Love the Picnic in the Park - will get one or three (for my City's Parks dept), Probably the Beach Lifeguard Station for the figs and bike, maybe the Mobile Crane (looks good) and maybe the Horse Transporter (great trailer and figs, average tow vehicle, and lame price).

Precisely why we need one!

By in United Kingdom,

I *love* the 60326 Picnic in the Park set. It feels more like a CITY version of a Friends scene, and about time too. It's my only "must have" along with 80036 City of Lanterns.

I do like the layout of the new 60330 Hospital, but I already have the last one. As always, the useful CITY buildings such as the bank in 60317 are only available in a huge expensive set with a load of vehicles taking up much of the parts budget. Meanwhile Friends gets the incredible 41704 Main Street Building. I'd love to see something like that in CITY with rather more realistic colours.

Loads of torsos and squirrels to add to my Bricks & Pieces wishlist!

Gravatar
By in United States,

More people need to be talking about 41704. The City theme is what, close to 20 years old, and we've only gotten a handful of sets primarily based around shops and homes? We should have gotten something like this loooong ago. I will definitely be picking this one up, and hopefully we'll see more sets in this vain in either Friends or City again

Gravatar
By in United States,

Initial thoughts on sets that catch my eye:

Friends fans are down right spoiled. Look how big and fleshed out the Friends buildings are compared to City ones. Especially since they're not wasting their footprint space with the road plates. The 41703 tree house has an freakin' elevator powered by a windmill. Brilliant!

LEGO, just sell the road plates separate!!!

60312 - Big car, itty-bitty living space. Leave the stickers and top lights off and it's a regular muscle car (with highlighter yellow).
60327 - Brown saddle! (Not new, just few and far between.)
60328 - Didn't think LEGO was into promoting torture, putting the sun-scorched pavement between the beach and the building.
60319 - Nice muscle car, but again, narrow windscreen.
60314 - Would have preferred the ice cream truck separate.
60329 - Looks like Newbury High will have to remain my only school. Yeesh. It's mostly road plates. Expected A LOT more. Bus is just sad.
60315 - Another little tractor for farming and they throw it into a police set.
60350 - The front-end (or top) of the lander is very... cylinder-y. The side gold dishes remind me of the solar panels(?) on the washing machine craft from 6953 . Rockets on the drone resemble those on some CS small fighters. Should have put a hose (cable) on the solar drone to make it a true mobile power source + another piece of equipment to plug it onto.
60330 - The colour scheme on the ambulance is....different. Cramped interior wise, it's on par with the last hospital. Seems odd to have just that little room on the ground floor hinge open. You'd think after 21310 and 10228 LEGO would be more efficient and useful with their hinge placement, whether it's opening a whole side's wall or splitting the building in half.
60317 - Might want it, but I can never stand those prefab JUNIORIZED cockpit pieces.
60351 - People don't usually ride in the big fuel tank, but I thought it was cute them putting an Octan tank in one of the compartments. Took a couple view to see the dome contains an observatory! Not as good as the Ideas one, but I'll take it. Hard to tell if it rotates. If not, I'll make it, like I did the one in 70437.

As a collector of the Brickheadz and Architecture Theme i will certainly buy the new sets from this series. Singapore Skyline is a surprise, because i 've thought, that this series will not continued anymore. It's a bit colorful but - who cares?

The lion dance guy is a nice addition to the dragon dance guy, released in 2019, also Ashoka Tano to the fantastic Mandalorian and Grogu Brickheadz.

The two dog sets are as lovely as the other animal sets.

Could be a good year...

Last time we got a new color (vibrant coral) (not counting additives/variants like the opalescent colors) transparent fluorescent blue got discontinued, and I think Lego has a policy on stuff like that. Next time we get a new color, I would like it to be a reddish orange color. IMO, that is one of, if not the, biggest gaps in the color palette."

I definitely agree, a good terra cotta color would be nice, and very useful for all sorts of natural and architectural builds. My biggest new color want is a yellow ochre though, tan and dark tan are really the only options for anything remotely similar.

Same price as the Senna and Corvette though, of course."

I think that the app won't really be necessary for the functionality of the model, but more like an extra. Looks like it's meant to scan the vehicle with your phone camera, probably to show the internal workings or something like that. "

I predict the free app for these two sets will add a start light / countdown function. Both of the sets have a brake / trigger to launch them after they've been pulled pack to maximum power. It would make perfect sense for the app to add an AR environment including drag race "Christmas tree" start lights, and/or whatever the Formula 1 / Formula E equivalent is.

There is no timeline/storyline for this wave. There will be some animated shorts released featuring some of these sets, but this wave is designed to welcome new, young builders into Ninjago with a generic setting and generic adversaries. This has been designed for 4+ and 6+ ages, apart from the three biggest sets.

These should tie in well enough with the previous wave; they both use the 49699 element, so all the modules from 60227 , 60228 and 60229 should be able to connect with the ones from the new sets. And also:

They fit together well enough in my opinion and still look consistent enough to be from the same space agency, just with different mission colours/logos. The last wave has been Mars missions, this one focuses more on the moon. You might see these as part of an earlier mission, setting up installations on and around the moon, preparing the way for the later missions further into the solar system.

‘City’ is a catch-all for anything that’s System but not speculative fiction. While it’s true that we don’t have lunar bases and in that sense it’s speculative and fictional, it’s at least possible eventually. Other System lines such as Ninjago and Monkie Kid are squarely in the modern fantasy/sci-fi genre.

All of the students in our LEGO town attend Hogwarts, which has been forced to add several more practical and vocational courses of study to its curriculum. Not everyone can be witches or wizards - someone needs to operate the trains, the marine mammal rescue center, Imperial rollercoaster, Police Station, Corner Garage, spaceport, etc.

It's the only City subtheme that LEGO doesn't keep the colors matching more. Arctic sets are all orange, deep sea explorers were both yellow, Coast Guard was always white with blue and orange, Hospitals were always white and red (until this godly mix of teal and neon yellow in 2022.

Space is the one that matches the least."

I get where you’re coming from, but think your glasses are a bit tinted on this one; the other subthemes have just as much variation in my opinion.

Arctic 2018: orange with dark blue and dark azure accents
Arctic 2014: orange with white accents

Deep See 2020: yellow with dark blue and red accents
Deeps See 2015: yellow, lots of grey with black and orange accents

Coast guard is probably the most consistent, although the use of orange shifts back and forward between the iterations of the theme; in 2008 it was the main colour, in 2013 more an accent colour with it becoming more prominent again in 2017.

Not to mention the various shades of yellow that have been used throughout the years in the police and fire themes. On top of that the logos/badges in all subthemes change all the time.
I really don't feel the space is getting the shorter end of the stick here; the sets will match well enough, especially with the 2018 wave, probably the only one (some) kids have a few sets of today.

If you took the last two Deep Sea Explorers and stuck them together they look like the same theme.

If you took the last three Space Port themes, none of them match. Even the launch towers don't. One is red and one is dark blue. They don't match at all."

I guess it’s a matter of point of view and of how far you are willing to stretch your imagination.
I have several of sets of the themes you mention and find that the dark blue in particular on both the newer deeps sea explorers and arctic sets sticks out considerably (admittedly not to the point that it really bothers me, although I have made slight alterations here and there).

The colour of the launch towers is a weak argument in my opinion. NASA for example has had many different colours for its launch structures: the Saturn V one was red, the Titan one black, the Space Shuttle era one grey and the current Ares/SLS one has a prominent white side (that gets lighted up in various colours at night). If anything, I’d say it’s realistic…

But ok, let’s agree to disagree for now.
I’ll pass final verdict when I have the sets and connect them together to see what it looks like.
