What is your favourite set of 2021?

Posted by ,

LEGO produced an outstanding selection of sets during 2021, reflecting their growing focus upon teenage and adult fans. Selecting a favourite has therefore attracted nearly 500 nominations!

From those nominated sets, fifteen have proven particularly popular, so have advanced to this final poll. Vote for your favourite set of 2021 after the break...

What is your favourite set of 2021?

10278 Police Station
10281 Bonsai Tree
10283 NASA Space Shuttle Discovery
10294 Titanic
21325 Medieval Blacksmith
21326 Winnie the Pooh
21327 Typewriter
21330 Home Alone
31120 Medieval Castle
71738 Zane's Titan Mech Battle
71741 NINJAGO City Gardens
75313 AT-AT
76178 Daily Bugle
76391 Hogwarts Icon Collectors' Edition
80107 Spring Lantern Festival

Sets which narrowly missed out on reaching the final poll include 42128 Heavy-Duty Tow Truck and 76193 The Guardians' Ship.

The nominations were extremely close, so I anticipate the voting proving similarly even!

Which set received your vote and are you surprised by any sets which did not reach the final? Let us know in the comments. The results will be published in the New Year.

No doubt Home Alone gets my vote, an amazing IDEAS set and seen as The Simpsons House is my favourite set of all time its no surprise I love the Home Alone set.

Love all the amazing details captured and all the traps incorporated into the build, everything about the set I love. I have no regrets getting it for Black Friday for £174.99 using some points VIP points plus getting some promos and double points back.

Now, other sets I love would include the amazing Castle sets, love the Blacksmith, also Winnie the Pooh and Seinfeld.

Good to see the 2 castle sets in the finals

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This is a great selection of sets but 10283 is an easy choice for me. Just about perfect, I certainly couldn't find any way to improve it. The features are great and for a model primarily aimed at display, it also has great play value. It impresses anyone who sees it.

By in Netherlands,

31120 , might not have the Castle "army" or horses, but the Castle itself and the parts are fantastic.

"Good" - more like "predictable" ;-)

Ninjago City Gardens hands down

Gravatar
By in Slovakia,

While 80107 Spring Lantern Festival has been great, the vote is no brainer: 10283 Space Shuttle

Gravatar
By in United States,

Although the set itself stands on its own merits, going to again put in a plug for the lower-priced range here and select 10281 Bonsai Tree.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

My vote is for the 80107 Spring Lantern Festival. It's so much fun!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

80107 Spring Lantern Festival is the stand out for me

Gravatar
By in Germany,

What else could it be? Hedwig of course! So beautiful. Such a nice letter.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Botanical Collection - flower Bouquet: 10280??

Gravatar
By in United States,

The 10283 Space Shuttle is a terrific model, but after seeing my nieces and nephews playing with the 31120 Medieval Castle that I gave them for Christmas, I have to vote for 31120. Apart from a dire lack of minifigs and horses, it's a splendidly old-school set that's every bit as good as any other castle Lego has ever made.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Daily Bugle gets my vote. Great building and so many awesome characters (Punisher anyone?!)!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Has to be the Bonsai tree for me! Some cracking sets in there, but I can't get over what a beautiful little set it is, and so unique.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Tough call, I voted for the Police Station, but Ninjago City Gardens was an amazing surprise. Daily Boggle as well, didn't expect so much support for the modular lines this year. Hopefully they keep doing stuff like that!

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Mid Evil Blacksmith (Gets My Vote)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Spring Lantern Festival is clearly the better 2021 modular than the actual modular for the year.

Gravatar
By in Brazil,

Keeping my vote for 71741. Absolutely stunning and beautiful set, it is like a piece of art. I really wish to get the other two Ninjago City sets someday, but I'm so glad I own the best one so far (hoping for more Ninjago modulars in the future!). Couldn't have asked for something better to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Ninjago.

Disappointed that the Guardians' Ship missed the top 15. I own it and it is such an amazing set, definitely deserved a better placement.

Gravatar
By in Norway,

None of the above, as Seinfeld didn't make the cut.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Gonna go with the Blacksmith. So many good sets to choose from, but as a huge fan of the old Castle theme, this one has that lil twist of nostalgia.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Three sets on the list I've actually purchased - Blacksmith, Castle, and Lantern Festival - with one more one my wanted list - Daily Bugle.

My nomination was for Blacksmith so that's where my vote is going. Though Castle and Lantern were both really good, especially Castle. I love 3-in-1. If the Castle set had more minifigs (even at a greater cost) I think it would have been the clear winner.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Blacksmith by an anvil.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I am surprised I only own 2 of the sets in this list.

I went with Blacksmith shop. While there are changed I'd make to the set, I think castle needs a push sometimes to get ahead of licensed stuff. Although everything seems to be pointing toward castle these days.

Gravatar
By in United States,

As awesome as the Space Shuttle is, my vote has to be for the Daily Bugle, the 75290 Mos Eisley Cantina of the Super Heroes (combined) theme. It’s fulled with references, boasts 25 minifigures with several exclusives, and is packed with action.

On top of all that, it can be added to a modular building display to spice it up with some big-city flair and super hero mayhem.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

None of these sets appeal to me, but I'll probably go with 31120 to show the need for the castle theme.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ninjago City Gardens vs. Daily Bugle vs. Titanic is a tough choice, but I've gotta go with the Titanic. The Bugle and the Gardens were sets I hoped LEGO would make but didn't have high hopes for, but I've wanted a LEGO Titanic since I was 9 years old and this set really delivered. There are just so many awesome sets in 2021! I'm excited to see what comes in 2022 but I kinda hope LEGO makes fewer expensive D2Cs.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Ninjago City Gardens, although I did hesitate when I saw the modular Police Station.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Has to be Winnie the Pooh for me. Great value for money, with a brilliant display piece that is instantly recognizable, and fantastic minifigures - all with new molds, which isn’t too common for Ideas sets. As a huge Disney fan, it was a dream come true. My second favorite would be the Daily Bugle, which I unfortunately don’t own yet. Hopefully by next Christmas!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Had to be medieval blacksmith for me.

Gravatar
By in United States,

None of these really do it for me, but going with the Bonsai Tree. There are a lot of great sets this year, but none I was super-passionate about unlike the previous couple years.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Medieval Blacksmith for me, but if I'd been able to purchace Discovery or the Daily Bugle, those would be my first votes.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It says so much about the year that only one of the game changing botanical series makes it into a top 20. Equally off the scale sets like colloseum or nou camp...
I think there are sets in the smaller category that are strong contenders for the grand title. Everyone is awesome was a game changer, and the tuk tuk was just the complete opposite of the gargantuan sets that appeal to an adult market/budget but sublime for its simplicity.
Great year tho ?? what will the year ahead bring.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

NCG is by far my favorite!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Daily Bugle for me. I’m a sucker for skyscrapers and super heroes. It’s the only one on that list that I bought (and at full price). I do love the Titanic though. Hopefully purchase it in 2022 sometime.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Among the many cool sets this year, the stand-out best was 31120 Medieval Castle. Sure, it could have done with more minifigures, but it’s still a great looking build with fun play features and versatility. I can only afford one of this set, but if my LEGO budget were larger, I’d buy two or more!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Had to decide on Titanic... it's the set I'll never have, as it is WAY too expensive. I've dreamed of one for almost my entire life (5 years old and watching a Night to Remember almost every week will do that to you), and now that it exists, I'll never be able to own one.

It's the Ship of Dreams, in a quite literal sense.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Bonsai Tree for me for sure. It just looks way too nice standing on my PC.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

In 2020 it was the Temple Fair, in 2021 it's the Spring Lantern Festival. Unfortunately, the 2022 CNY sets don't look quite as good.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Well, my nomination was the Chamber of Secrets and thats not on here. I also have no interest in any of these sets so I don't know what to vote for.

Gravatar
By in United States,

42128 was mine.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@TheBrickPal:
Well, no, that was a recent policy change. Steamboat Willie was the first Ideas set where we noticed first use of new molds (their hats), but it was quickly revealed that the CMF line had actually designed them, and just got beaten to the punch. Sesame Street was the first set where they actually created new molds that have not been used elsewhere, and announced the new policy. I think Pooh is only the second Ideas set to take advantage of that policy change, and I’m not sure if there is a third such set.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Ninjago City Gardens was just so enjoyable to build that it has to be my choice.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Ninjago City Gardens gets my vote.

As for my final comment:
Happy 2022 to all of you, and all the best!
Take care and stay safe.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

A lot of winners here, but for me it’s the Daily Bugle.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Has to be the Blacksmith really, lovely set. Home alone in a close second.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I loved the Blacksmith but I wonder if splitting the castle vote between the blacksmith and the Creator castle will hurt it in some way, the same might be said of the Spring lantern festival almost being an add-on to the Ninjago City set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Titanic is great, but Ninjago City Gardens really really deserves it. Don't forget it just because it came out early in the year.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I pick Spring Lantern Festival. Amazing display set which I plan to keep built for a long time.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ninjago City Gardens, extremely fun build. Great to look at and tons of Easter eggs.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

The Discovery for me.

Medieval Blacksmith is a very close 2nd.

My wife would certainly vote for the Bonsai tree,

Gravatar
By in Malaysia,

Ninjago City Gardens, Spring Lantern Festival, Medieval Blacksmith, Bonsai Tree. There, 4-way tie for me.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Once again, Ninjago City Gardens.

I love the Modulars but they unexpectedness of Gardens shot it through the roof for me. I always hoped we’d get more after Docks but lost hope. Then it happened.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

The AT-AT- that thing's a masterpiece.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

The Home Alone set was just enjoyable to build from start to finish. How the design incorporated so many references to the original film. Maybe it wasn't the best set in terms of design, clever techniques or parts usage (although it did have a few), but this isn't a vote for the best set of the year, it's the favourite set of the year.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I don't own any of these sets due to their prices so I'm abstaining from the vote.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

I own Medieval Blacksmith, Bonsai tree and Ninjago Gardens. But I vote for Spring Lantern Festival. Simply because I would love if Lego would finally make modular terrain sets. And this Festival is the closest to that idea.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The Home Alone Set Is One Of The Best Lego Sets In Years On My Opinion

Gravatar
By in United States,

My vote goes to the 21325 Medieval Blacksmith. The build, finished product, figures, and overall value are fantastic. I have no nostalgia for "Classic Castle" (I was a late 2000's/early 2010's kid) but the Blacksmith shop is my favorite set in my collection (proving that it's more than just "nostalgia bait"). It even usurped my previous "favorite set in my collection" (10188 Death Star).

Happy voting!

By in Sweden,

Surprised to see 10278 Police Station and 10294 Titanic in the list as I didn't see many nominations for these. Also surprised that none of the below $40 sets is included, as several of those received loads of nominations.

Gravatar
By in France,

Really hard pick this year... I chose the Space Shuttle, but I hesitated with the Medieval Blacksmith and the Spring Lantern festival... It goes without saying that I already own these three amazing sets :-)

I know, but in the original nomination article it says:
"Sets costing less than $40 can appear in the overall poll, should they receive enough nominations."
https://brickset.com/article/68514/brickset-awards-2021-nominations

I'm pretty sure sets such as 40499 Santa's Sleigh, 40516 Everyone is Awesome and 76239 Batmobile Tumbler: Scarecrow Showdown received more nominations than 10278 Police Station and 10294 Titanic.

Edit: Those rules somehow must have changed or been forgotten, as 40516 Everyone is Awesome received more than 50 votes while 10294 Titanic got as few as 14! (Both sets also received some secondary choice votes.)

I won't be voting for any of the sets in this poll, which should be renamed "What is your favourite set costing above $40 of 2021".

Gravatar
By in United States,

Where the results?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I had some trouble deciding on my vote for this one, like most of the other votes this year.
The three sets I liked most were Ninjago City Gardens, Daily Bugle and the AT-AT.

Ninjago City Gardens because it was really a fantastic set from one of my favourite themes with all the little easter eggs, it felt like it was really designed by a Ninjago fan.

Daily Bugle because of the impressive array of minifigures (even though quite a lot aren't exclusive) and sheer scale, and how accurate it looks.

The AT-AT, which I finally chose, has an impressive accurate interior as well as size, and basically accomplished the impossible by letting the four legs support the full weight of the cockpit and the troop carrier and making a UCS set that a lot of the community have wanted for the longest time, albeit with the introduction of one new piece.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Like many other commenters, I really admire several of these sets, but in the end, since we're voting for "favorite," I had to choose Spring Lantern Festival.

Gravatar
By in United States,

2021 was a good year for some impressive sets. My personal favorite was Ninjago City Gardens so that gets my vote, but respect for all the other ones here.

Gravatar

The RMS Titanic.
Not even a competition :P

Just realized that I misunderstood the rules - below $40 sets that were nominated as "Favourite set of the year" could qualify to this poll, but if they were nominated in the below $40 category, they could only qualify for that. 10294 Titanic gets my vote then, even though it received so few nominations! Sorry...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I picked the bonsai tree, becauase its different, and shows the range of things that can be build with lego. I love the castle, for example, but there have been lego castles for decades.

I just was looking at NCG at the store though, wow thats an unbelievable set

Gravatar
By in Austria,

some close ones, but if there is space, I vote space. and if space is as good as 10283, I don't feel bad about it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I wish we had at least three votes, to really make a ranked order of the top three best sets. The reality is there were so many good sets this year, I suspect some sets that would have easily been in the top 3-5 may be low-balled with the voting of just one set.

Hogwarts icons, blacksmith, Winnie the Pooh, Ninjago Gardens, Spring Lantern, Bonsai…. All amazing sets.

I don't think the rule was forgotten by Huw, I think a lot of people didn't realise they could vote the same set twice as most comments at a glance are specifying "best Set" or "best set under $40" as per the directions, I don't think anyone can take the under $40 and add them to the Best overall category unless specified by the person commenting as it was 2 different categories.

By in Hungary,

So much great sets!
If I must to pick up one, it is HOME ALONE, which is the one of the biggest attraction (see as size, as item numbers, as its cultural importance).
My favorite themeline is Creator / Creator 3in1 soI hesitated a lot to pick the Police Station to mark the best. In other hand, Titanic is a meaningful, valuable (not money-valuable only, but human-valuable as well) but its brutally big for me. I can imagine how many working hours in planning of this set, but I dont like it.

Gravatar

Creator Castle. The return of a proper castle with a good price and fun build. If you've purchased three of them then well done, must look fantastic clipped together.

By in United Kingdom,

There all pretty good but the Ninjago City Gardens has got to be the best this year.
I mean come on, its beautiful!
Second for me would probably be the Daily Bugle (because who doesn't like Spiderman) its a huge step up from all the other Spiderman sets before, and has a lot of great minifigs.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

31120 Medieval Castle, but the Blacksmith is a really beautiful set. Unfortunately I had to pick which one to buy. A hard choice, but finally I decided in favor of the castle - always wanted to have one.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

What an amazing year for sets. There were several that would have been my favourite in any other year, but I had to go for 71741 Ninjago Ciy Gardens, which has the best build experience of any set I have built to date.
