[Europe] New Year brings new prices!
Posted by CapnRex101,
Happy New Year!
2022 has arrived, bringing over one hundred new sets and the promised price adjustments across Western Europe, intended to achieve greater pricing parity between different countries.
Many sets have therefore risen or decreased in price, depending on your location. In advance of more comprehensive analysis later, we have identified a couple of notable examples...

Note: Any countries not shown above, such as Hungary on the lists for 21325 Medieval Blacksmith and 75252 Imperial Star Destroyer, are because the Brickset database has not currently recorded the previous prices, so I am unsure whether there has been a change. Do let us know in the comments though.
Prices in the Czech Republic have also been updated, but there have seemingly been some mistakes with decimal places. 10280 Flower Bouquet, for example, is currently available to order for 64,90 Kc, which is the equivalent of about £2.19 or €2.61!
The changes are surprisingly dramatic in certain instances, revealing how inconsistent prices have sometimes been across Europe. We hope to publish further information about the adjustments shortly.
What other changes have you noticed and have any price reductions prompted you to consider unexpected purchases?

Aw man, Norway and Hungary, what did you do?
I've cut back my Lego collecting. It was fun while it lasted (40 years!), but with so many sets in the hundreds, mobile phone requirements, and so many annual releases it made me re-evaluate the hobby. No more Technic or Star Wars. Trains died out on their own. Will continue with Modular Buildings for now.
5% ! That may not seem like much, but with the prices of some sets…
That is a big increase in price for the Assembly Square. On the other hand, in the UK, the VW Camper, Pickup Truck, Fiat 500 and Colosseum have all decreased by £5 or £10.

I’m doing exactly the same. I’m even selling off a whole lot of my collection. It’s remarkable the stories I hear when people come to pick up models of how much they wanted them and for how long. So, it’s good that the hobby can generate some joy beyond being in your own collection and the money is great! Now I know what Lego feels like with their billions.
Medieval Blacksmith down from € 169,99 to €149,99 in the Netherlands is a pleasant surprise. This has increased the chance of me getting it in the short term!
And in Czech store there seems to be some mistake, because 10255 now costs 279 CZK (~11 EUR) and 75192 849 CZK (~34 EUR):
https://www.lego.com/en-cz/product/assembly-square-10255
https://www.lego.com/en-cz/product/millennium-falcon-75192
It would be nice if they removed ANZAC too. (Australia and New Zealand Auxiliary Cost).
$319.99 for a modular building?? What kind of price even is that?
I'm deeply concerned about the price hike with the modulars both here in Australia and for our European friends. $300+ should not be the new price for modulars.
$250 AU (roughly) is the acceptable price (I believe this was around $150-200 US if I'm not mistaken). I understand more expensive modulars for large, special sets like Town Hall and Assembly Square but there's no way Corner Garage is worth $300 AU. We had CG, then Police Station ($300 AU) and now Boutique Hotel ($319.99 AU). And at the same time we have a significant decrease in the quality of Lego pieces. In my own opinion I would also argue the modulars aren't as amazing anymore and for newer modulars like CG and Bookstore, have had rather lacking interiors.
Netherlands: 10290 Bookshop went up from 159,99 to 179,99. Elf club house 10275 down from 94,99 to 89,99 and 10293 Santa's visit down from 99,99 to 89,99.
I can't check my order status, every time I login it says something when wrong in the order section. Anyone else having that problem?

Yes and it covers all the order history too. I assume it's a glitch from the price adjustments

Thank you for the confirmation. I noticed that last night but was honestly uncertain whether I was somehow misunderstanding Czech pricing!
I wonder whether LEGO will honour those prices.
Scanning through the UK prices it seems a lot of older sets have got price increases and a lot of newer ones have price decreases. Most of the price movements are in more expensive sets (£90 and up).
I feel sorry for the people in Finland. Why are the prices so high there? €900 for the UCS Falcon?
Jeez!
These prices are high!
The only one on my wanted list is the assembly square, it's literally £50 more :(

I gave up on the official Lego store, we used to have ToysRus but they went bankrupt. Thankfully we do have another store here that seems to be getting Lego from somewhere and selling it below the official price. I got my ISD for €450 and Ninjago Gardens for 209. But the official store is a waste of time.

Finland is quite sparsely populated. 16 people/ km2. Compare that to our 423/km2 and you can assume that logistics is a factor. The population is also relatively wealthy so Lego probably has the same 'your gonna pay more than poor countries' tax we have/had.
In top of that, Finland is more of an "island", we can jump in a car and get cheaper sets from Belgium, France or Germany. For Fins this is harder. Making comparisons less likely and thus less dissatisfaction with price differences.

Luckily Smyths still have it on their shelves at £179.99 (Checked this morning) but that is certainly some price hike.
In Czech shop, it seems like the price shown is in Euros insted of CZK - so 75192 is priced CZK849 instead of CZK equivalent of €849. Quite a lot of sets is affected. This will be a headache for LEGO, since the mistake's been there for 10 hours now.
Over £200 for Assembly Square? BAHA!
Ouch re: Assembly Square in the UK, glad I picked it up mid-2021 but as @Calv has noted, still £179.99 in Smyths but £50 is a big rise. Looks like the Bookshop just went up by £10 too in the UK. The drop back to £129.99 for the Blacksmith is welcome and while only £5 does make me reconsider it (and I expect it to win Favourite set) but with so much choice it just hasn't wowed my nostalgic younger inner self like Barracuda Bay did.

Fixed now, I can see that my boutique hotel is in the warehouse. I'm glad brought those sets before the price adjustments, looks like I got better value for money back then.
There are some errors in the Swiss prices, Assembly Square used to be 299chf but has now dropped to 279chf. The UCS falcon used to be 999chf, also the current isd price is 749chf (can't remember old price) not 949chf. Small downwards shifts but generally still more expensive than the rest of our neighouring countries. To be fair, the rrp of sets have been getting closer in the last 2 years although there are still sets like the Blacksmith or chamber of secrets which are price 20 to 30% higher than others in EU.

I used to only buy sets when they had reached at least a 30% reduction in a sale but now I think I need to make that benchmark closer to 40%. Or I am simply not going to be buying sets anymore.... I'm so done with Lego as a company. Good product, terrible company, awful customer service, contempt for their customers.

You must be getting a very different experience with the company than me. I find them to be very good, thoughtful (if sometimes a little misguided) in their treatment of customers and their customer service I find to be exceptionally good.

Yeah, exactly.
The price in Sweden for Medieval Blacksmith is 1899:- sek, not 3399:-.
Vidiyo is obviously selling very well - they've put the price pf the bandmates up! /s
I thought this might be a good opportunity to slash the Vidiyo prices by 50% without losing face. Obviously not.
But really, when you buy a new set these days, I haven’t felt that any justifies the price.
I can’t recall a single brand that suddenly felt so overpriced as Lego does.
Fully satisfied with what I can buy on secondary market, but it is a bit sad.
Enjoy it if you are in one of the affected markets. Prices in New Zealand seem to be going up year on year, making it harder to justify buying sets. We certainly get less than we used to.
I once asked Lego why their prices were higher here, and they said they compare toys and expenses globally, and being a 'luxury' brand they charge accordingly. Add on to that that we pay an additional increase for shipping (all Lego in NZ is first shipped to Australia, then over to us) and 15% GST on top and it sir is an expensive hobby :(
I certainly look to some European and US pricing in envy...
Is there a comprehensive list of all sets affected?
Remember, friends: Never pay full price for a Lego set.

I had only extremly good Customer service from lego over the years. Any other Customer service I had contact with is subpar compared to Lego's own. I also find it quite funny when random guys behind a keyboard make bold statements about business strategies of the biggest companies in the world. How naive is to think one random individual knows better how to run a global leading business than the people who are top managers who made It a global success running strong for so many decades now. Fascinating audacity.

i did order lego worth almost 2000 eur for 120 eur, so lets see xaxaxa
but frankly, i am expecting them to cancel those orders and issue vip points compensation instead
So sorry for Europe, suddenly being brought in line with the ripoff that NZ (and, to be fair, some other regions) have been enduring for years. I haven't bought a single 2021 set. Not one. Can't see 2022 being any different with prices being so ridiculous.
@AgentKallus said:

Working on it, at least for the UK and larger European countries.
It's still very odd to me that they did this rather than just pricing new sets where they ought to be and letting the older ones age out. That £50 price hike on 10255 is mad for a set that's several years old now.
31109 Pirate Ship went up €20 to €120, and £15 to £105.
However its not just all increases everywhere, a lot of prices went down €5-€10 on sets in Netherlands to be the same as Germany.
Ah, totally forgot about this. Was wondering why the spare train tracks for my sons Christmas present suddenly went up a few quid from yesterday. Yes it’s only a little increase, but reflected straight away in price on Amazon and elsewhere that was also cheaper yesterday. Just wish I’d ordered 24 hours ago when I first thought about it
Looks like 32 x 32 Baseplates, here in the UK have gone up by a £1 to £7.99. I’m sure they were previously £6.99
@CCC said:
"I doubt Smyths will get away with charging significantly more for the same set, so will they increase it and have permanent discount or just leave it ...?"
I expect Smyths will reflect the change the price when the existing stock is used up and they order in at the new price.
Ah, the new years price change, a good ol' lego.com tradition in Hungary.
Ninjago City Gardens went from 99000 Huf to 109990 last year.
Now these appear to be on the same caliber again.
Inflation is getting just a "bit" out of hand.
@huw You missed the PAB increases to £7.99 and £14.99 small/large cup £3 increase on a cup is crazy and pure greed iMO. The pick a minifig is now £5.99 for three from £4.99 and base plates £6.99 to £7.99 ...
^ I was just at a Lego store but missed the PAB / BAM increase. It really does make those a lot less attractive unless there are some really really good parts / figures.
Happy new year lego, i hope they will need it :P

It’s still £179.99 at Smyths and John Lewis - though stock is patchy.
TLG has now managed to have a worse price-performance ratio than Apple.
Happy to see that some prices in CHF have been finally corrected.
Before I was afraid that they will once again increase.
A long time ago the SNB tried to keep the € to 1.20, but today it is nearer from the parity.
But some have anyhow increased like the 10274 which was before 209 CHF and now 219.
or the 10270 from 169 to 199 CHF.
"intended to achieve greater pricing parity between different countries" - apparently the countries with the very highest prices - Sweden, Norway and Finland - are excluded, as those prices are kept the same or even increased.
€149.99 vs €179.95 for 21325 Medieval Blacksmith, €799.99 vs €899.95 for 75192 Millennium Falcon...
Time to sell.

Complete agree and same here. Several years ago was collecting different lego sets from different themes, around 20 sets per year, now only collect modulars, and not even all of them. The prices are just insane and sets are less attractive than before, plus the mobile phone requirement you mentioned and the revised vip points thing making it harder to get and redeem points (with expiry). Been 2 years since my last lego purchase.
More LEGO greed.
Quality control keeps dropping while prices keeps increasing.
Why are we spending these high prices on the quality of LEGO when we can just as well get some ripoff brand much cheaper when LEGO is slipping more and more, just riding on the fact that their name/brand is known for quality.

Awesome! Now it may be worth to pick up the MilF and Blacksmith at LEGO during a promotion.

Keep your eyes open for the crowdfunding round 3, the train station might be modulair enough.
The UK price was set when the pound was worth 1.40 euros. Since the brexit announcement, the pound has fallen to 1.10 - 1.20 euros. Hence a correction.

I always wondered how PAB cups could cost so little in the UK, compared to other countries. Now it seems they cost pretty much like the rest of Europe (except at least Denmark where they cost a lot more). (Unless PAB prices have increased in other countries too, I hope not!)
Too bad, I always loved taking advantage of the cheap prices when visiting the UK.
10294 Titanic in UK is down slightly, from £569.99 (I think?) to £554.99.
Just a pity it's not actually available!!

This exactly is what I thought too on most of those adjustments.
Still doesn't really explain a 20% / 16.7% increase on 31109.
Well, in the article it are some examples of mostly existing or older sets... but what about the new ones?
I went to the Lego online shop today, with the intention to order this years modular hotel.
But while last years police station was about 180 euros, which was already up compared to the 150 a 160 modulars used to be, for this years hotel they charge, without shame, 200 euro.
And that for a set that, at least on the pictures, looks a lot smaller than last years model, and comes without a nice GWP this time. ( the police station last year came with that nice convertible car).
That is, in a couple of years, a 30% increase, for a shrinking product...
I am sorry, but instead of "price adjustments", or corrections for inflation, this starts to smell more and more like corporate greed..
@namekuji said:

terrible inflation..
The infinity gauntlet has gone up £10
No matter what excuse is given for the price hike, it all amounts to greed and is totally wrong. I mean the company is making millions and continues to do so.
In Spain some sets now cost less at Lego Shop; e.g. 75980 and 75969 goes from 109,99€ at 2021 to 99,99€ curently now. This means they don't go up. Great for us here :-)!
Considering the current quality of LEGO, some of the prices are simply outrageous, especially for eastern EU countries. For LEGO fanatics prices of the big star wars sets are not a surprise, but I imagine that some family in Poland randomly entering a LEGO store and seeing that a glorified toy set costs as much as the average monthly salary might be a shock.
I appreciate that some alternative brick manufacturers, like CaDa, actually seem to adjust the prices for different regions - I've moved from Poland to Switzerland last year and compared them. Some sets cost here about twice as much as in Poland.
I am keeping tab of sets I am interested in. The price of Medieval Blacksmith has changed ever so slightly in Hungary from last year's 54989 Ft to 54990 Ft of this year. Unfortunately it is out of stock, like many other sets.
Also, Hungary used to be in a weird economic situation that is difficult for international companies to follow. This leads to prices following mainland Europe but salaries lagging well behind, with decreasing buying potential. Current global economy adds up to this making it more difficult to find the sweetspot in pricing.
I’ve just noticed that here in the uk the 2 Fiat 500‘s are showing at different prices. The blue one has stayed at £74.99 while the yellow one is now £69.99. Bizarre!
Don't get it, why higher prices in Hungary?! They have factory there!

Hi, being a Finnish AFOL myself I thank for Your symphaties and agree that the pricing here seems quite unfair! Even when ordering directly from Lego.com, I see that all sets cost a lot more in comparison to Central Europe. For small sets the difference is a few euros, but for modulars and UCS type of stuff this rises to as high as 40-50 € more. :(
I've understood that this indeed has to do with the cost of shipping: As Lego.com offers "free" shipping, the only way for them to compensate for the much longer distance is to include these in the base prices. I don't think that it's so much of an issue of being sparsely populated, but indeed of both wealth and especially the distance. Look from a map of Europe how North and East Finland actually is, and remember that a considerably larger proportion of Finns also live on the northern parts of the country than in Sweden or Norway. So even as I personally live in the Capitol of Helsinki, basically as South as one can in Finland, I'll have to pay more for my lego because the price is the same for the entire country, and the Lego collectors of for example Rovaniemi, the most northern city, need their sets to be shipped to the Arctic circle! And indeed, we're an island "behind" the Baltic Sea.
I sometimes order new sets from Bricklink's secondary market from German sellers, because it often is the cheaper option regardless of the shipping costs and the fact that they are resellers. However, taking into account lego.com's VIP point discounts, its borderline whether this is the case or not.

Hello, I just received my Lego order from the 1st January when I noticed these weird prices. I got Seinfeld apartment for 4.30 EUR (109 CZK). So they did honour those prices :).
I also did separate order to see if it affects also back orders, so this remains to be seen. After the order was placed I wrote to LEGO customer service, informing them about this bug on their website as I do not wish to exploit these software bugs, but still no reply.

I wonder whether LEGO will honour those prices."
Hello, I also received two items from the order which were in stock.
The remaining items which were on backorder now all appear as cancelled in my order. So it seems LEGO will not deliberately honour the prices and that the sets in stock just slipped through their hands.

"And in Czech store there seems to be some mistake, because 10255 now costs 279 CZK (~11 EUR) and 75192 849 CZK (~34 EUR):

I also wrote to their customer service about low prices, but still haven't heard from them.
I tried to order one item on backorder, but now it's in state "contact customer service". They haven't replied either, so far...
I am pleased to hear that LEGO honoured those Czech prices!

It seems that only happened for stuff in stock. We already received an official statement via email that there was an unintentional issue in the pricing for Czech Republic and that the prices were obviously incorrectly low. And that all orders affected by these erroneous prices have been cancelled.
Some people who received this email already mentioned they received another one informing them, again, that some of the items from their order are not in stock and will be sent later. Seems like there's still mess regarding this matter.
I went on the Lego shop website on the 1.1.2022 right after midnight to order 75321 and after putting Razor Crest into the search field I was surprised to see 75292 for 159 CZK. I ordered both and received 75321 shortly after, with 75292 being on backorder. I was not hoping to get 75292 for that price, but yesterday, Lego shop charged another 200 CZK on my PayPal account for shipping and today my 75292 arrived! I guess I used up all the luck for the rest of my life. :)
