Year of the Tiger will be the GWP from Monday
Posted by Huw,
After a couple of disappointing GWPs at the start of the year, things are set to improve next week when 40491 Year of the Tiger will be free with purchases exceeding £85/$85/€85 from Monday until the 27th of the month at LEGO.com. That's the same day that the Chinese Traditional Festival sets are launched in the USA.
Additionally, 30562 Monkie Kid's Underwater Journey will be free with Monkie Kid and NINJAGO purchases over £40 during the same period.
The Chinese zodiac animal sets are highly collectable and once I have the tiger it'll be a good excuse to get all the others out again for a group photo. View last year's one after the break.

That’s great news. I’m planning on picking up both of the Chinese Traditional Festival sets so here’s to scoring two!
Not so good when put in an order yesterday for over £85 doh!
Fab, have been "holding out" on a couple of items that I can make into an £85+ order waiting to hopefully pick this GWP up, also have a reward code for the Spider-Man Comic Print to use so win-win.
I already waited until Stores open after lockdown, so this will be a great bonus.
The Sheep/Goat is not correct there, the plinth it is standing on should be Brown with rocks etc
when the Dragon hits this theme people will wake up to how nice these are, you've gotta
have them all!
I was hoping the spend threshold would be adjusted given the changes to RRPs recently, but never mind!

You would like the spend threshold to increase? I don’t see any other change likely..

I know it's unlikely to happen but spend thresholds used to be different depending on currency. UK has 'overpaid' for the last couple of years so would be nice to see parity here as well as with the set prices.

You are right but if you read my earlier reviews of these sets you'll know that I made one to match the standard set by later ones.
But does it have a butt?
I really would like this as I was born in the year of the Tiger, but all the big items in my wish list are out of stock at the moment, so I'd be adding random stuff just to get to £85! Hopefully some more stock will come by Monday
Now hopefully the 2 sets (Traditions/Ice Festival) won't sell out before that date in Europe.
Checks part list - no pink 1x1 round plate :(
At least one good tiger though!
I was hoping to get both these GWPs with a well timed purchase of 80036 but it’s now out of stock!

My thoughts exactly!
Got the Rooster one for my son, hopefully Tiger one for me and if I'm lucky the Dragon for my wife (I imagine that one will be extremley popular)!
Damn, would have been a good opportunity to buy City of Lanterns (my most wanted of the 2022 sets) with two GWPs but it's "Temporarily out of stock" in the UK, not even marked as on back order. Will check on the date but not holding out much hope.

Yep, I was waiting to order, but clearly waited too long.....I think its going to be a gamble now, not knowing how long to wait for a good GWP vs something going out of stock!
Unless they plan to manufacture to order, or _waaaaaaay_ overproduce these, I wouldn’t count on it lasting long enough to fill every qualifying order on CTF launch day.
@lee1980:
We may not be seeing a published calendar anymore, but the timing of seasonal offers are a little easier to predict, even if you have no idea what the items will be.
@dbbunny:
It actually makes sense the way it is. If retail sets are 1:1:1 for $:€:£, the declared value of the GWP will probably also be 1:1:1, and therefore it will cost more to earn a set worth £10 than one worth $10, even when it’s the same set. Blame the higher cost of living in the UK. If everything costs more, _everything_ costs more, including the handful of products you’re more likely to price-compare with the rest of the world.
Shouldn’t have ordered the entire MK wave on day 1, completely slipped my mind that the New Years animal is a GWP. But oh well, what are ya gonna do?

I had never seen the calendar before, its ok got plenty to build, just annoying miss out by a few days. I had ordered the Fender guitar as soon notified back in stock as its been out of stock in UK for a while.
Very glad I just read this before placing an order for 10297 Boutique Hotel and 10278 Police Station, I'll wait until Monday now, thank you! :-)
Thanks Huw! The pic us fabulous. This information is all the more appreciated since the demise of the monthly store calendar.
And there was me hoping to go the whole of January without a Lego purchase!
Exciting. Though I really wished Lego didn't bundle the tiger minifig with its most expensive New Year's set -- it's pretty obvious why they did, and it feels pretty sharp
Nice! Was hoping to make an order with the Lunar New Year sets around then anyway, and I'm glad i saved a lot of the Ninjago sets from my wishlist to buy later so I could get that Monkie Kid polybag as well!

This is the question we all came here to find out. Sadly, it seems it does not have that.
There's barely anything left on their store, not sure they'll be providing a lot of GWPs...

My thoughts exactly. I have 20+ sets in my wishlist and ever single one of them is out of stock.
Well that is disappointing! I was hoping the Monkie Kid polybag would be sold! I suppose paying only $5 for that would be too good to be true though. Let alone I live in America which means I still wouldn't be able to get it.
Nipper 1 got the pig and some of the bricks cracked when he assembled it :(
Excellent. I hope to get the 2 Chinese New Year sets. Fingers crossed!
Looks like I'll have to be a completist and buy the missing ones on Bricklink.
I guess I'll go to the store Monday for either 80034 , or 80031 and 31129 , to get both GWPs. Assuming they don't sell out before I get there!
Is this the one with or without the butthole?
And this is one of the reasons the calendars were helpful, because I already made my big purchases a few days ago and will now miss out on this. Which is probably part of their marketing strategy of reducing the ability for people to plan out purchases to maximize awards. :(

I really wish people would just get over this already
I've been falling hard into large brick-built animals but the Creator Anatomically-Unnecessary Tiger already filled that niche. idk.
If you live in Australia, the Tiger is free when you spend over $88 on Lego on the Toys R Us website.
a tiger ? Tigga please
Haven't gave a crap about gwp since Darth Revan. God that was a long time ago.

Probably since that opinion is just as valid to post as the "omg, I can't wait to get it" or the "I'll keep on avoiding anything associated with china" ones.
Aw dang, last year the chinese new year GWP could be stacked with the V-day one, no chance this year I guess.
I’m surprised you don’t have the Snake in that shot. I just assumed you have, well, everything! :)
40491 Year of the Tiger is not available here in Portugal. So i'll keep the money on my side for now. The other GWP, itself, don't represent enough value.

Yup.
I wonder if it's just a site glitch, as usual with LEGO.
Because it still shows the banner announcing it for purchases above 85€.
Anyone able to buy 80108 Lunar New Year Traditions? It disappeared from US site then reappeared as "Coming Soon Jan 10th", which it already is seeing as how I just bought an Ice Festival. At least I got my tiger...rawwr.

Am in Canada and am waiting to buy it. It also disappeared here around midnight, then reappeared as "Coming Soon" around 12:10m. Around 12:20am it has disappeared again. Hoping that means they noticed the error and it will come back available to buy soon!
Yep, it's gone again here too... I hope you're right, I can't wait to get one!

Lunar New Year Traditions available as of 12:40am EST (after coming back as coming soon at 12:30)!
Ooo, you got one? nice! It keeps alternating here between "Coming Soon Jan 10th" and page 404 not found. I think this is a quest for another day...zzzzZZ
Yes, I see it's back to "Coming Soon" now here as well. But I did get one, plus a few other things so that I could get the Year of the Tiger GWP. I can go to sleep happy now. Good luck tomorrow!
Not added to the shopping cart at Spanish site yet...
Delayed?
This GWP hasn't showed up in my shopping cart in the UK yet, I have been trying since last night £89.99 spend. Any other UK people having the same issue? Cheers

I tried several times last night and it eventually added. Can't get it to add now.

I had tried for hours! It's adding quite happily now every time. I went to Customer Service in the end at 9:30am before ordering to make sure that it would be added. It seems that from 10am onwards its been showing in the basket.
Finally got one! :D Good luck to everyone with New Years set and the tigers!
Site glitch, yes :-) Encouraged by some comments, i decided to take a chance, and it worked, it appears in the order confirmation and in the account.
