LEGO VIPs can now redeem their VIP points for the five collectable coins in the rewards centre at LEGO.com

Here's the press release containing more information:

LEGO VIP collectible coins are back!

We’re making our LEGO VIP collectible coins and coin holder available again on January 11, 2022 in our VIP Rewards Centre. Each coin (as well as the coin holder) is only available to VIP members who didn’t get any coins or weren’t able to complete their set last year. We expect supplies to run out quickly. If demand is lower than we expect, we may open the promotion up so VIP members can get a second coin. Keep an eye on the VIP Rewards Centre for the latest updates.

The coins 'cost' 1,150 points each, the holder 700, so the set costs 6,450 points. 6,400 points could also get you a £40 discount.

page won't load for me, what a surprise its looking to be another disappointingly run VIP offer already

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

got them all except pirate coin that is not on the rewards site

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

They’ve loaded for me but oddly no pirate coin ?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Now working but no signs of the Pirate coin at all, but the rest are showing plus the case.

Gravatar
By in Spain,

Secured my space coin without much trouble! Yay! Complete set!

There was one coin missing in the reward centre, though…

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

The coins don’t seem to come with the individual cases?

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Why no pirate coin????

Those are just promo images - the packaging will likely be the same.

I just redeemed the 5 coin case which was the only thing I didn’t get first time around. Very bizarre that the Pirate coin isn’t there - but hopefully that was less likely to be missed by people who were collecting them during last year because the supplies were a little better until the Space and Gold coins.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Managed to get the Logo coin but like others have said, no sign of the pirate coin. It's annoying you can only redeem one code per order because to complete the set I would need to make six separate orders in the next 60 days which, as much as I love Lego, I'm just not going to do.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Talking to Customer Service now and seems to be an error, they seem confused why its not on the centre as well, will update they are still looking into why.

I suspect either error or the Pirate Coin didn't come in stock.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Stonewars.de claims that the pirate coin is available in eastern European countries. Let's hope that this is just a bug.

Gravatar
By in Czechia,

I can see all 5 coins and the case.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

its a joke you can't redeem all coins in one go. I have redeemed for all 4 coins and holder. if I don't redeem via order for a few weeks, is the coins held for me, or can you go out of stock and i lose out

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Very sneaky that you can’t redeem more than 1 code per order, as others have said you’d need to make multiple orders to get a full set.

it can go out of stock and they will just say they are sorry and give you back vip points

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

will my code stop working if i don't redeem and they go out of stock, or this that coin reversed for me

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

pirate coin up

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Pirate Coin has been added to the list!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Got the last one I needed. Finally. Only waited 7 months but all happy now.
Weird that the pirate one isn’t showing.
Been a bit of a debacle but hey, they will look nice on my shelf.
No scarcity or value for resale required.
Have a lovely day if, like me, you’ve just filled a gap

Gravatar
By in Italy,

In Italy store they were all present. I have a feeling that the pirate coin will go up in price...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Pirate coin just gone live on UK. Completed my set today no issues

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Just got off from Customer Service who contacted the VIP team and they added it, seems they either forgot to add it or there was a bug. Finally got my complete set after almost a year.

It’s reserved for you for 60 days.
So add the code to an order within 60 days

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Stonewars.de mentioned that there will be 8000 available of each. Just hoping that the Pirate Coin will remain for a one or two days, when I get more VIP points.

It should be reserved for you for 60 days.

However, on Black Friday I reserved a Fiat Art Print but then, when I tried to claim it, i got a message stating it was now out of stock. It could have just been that some of the prints somehow got damaged or, more likely, that their stock control system is as unreliable as the rest of Lego's IT.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I took the £40 discount instead :)

The memorabilia items never interest me as much as actual LEGO, but I hope you all get the coins you want despite the odd way it seems to have been set up.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Got all the coins and holder, but I didn't realise that you can only use one code at a time. I spoke to customer services just now and they confirmed its 1 redemption per order, though others have complained about this too, so hopefully this may change. I don't really want to order 1 keyring+delivery per coin and I don't generally do 6 proper orders within 60 days....

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I reserved the 5 coin case, which I didn't bother getting 1st time around. Now I just need to decide what to build out of 5 empty individual cases!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Got them at 1 minute past, all coins except pirate coin were available, no idea what's up with that. *EDIT* just went back to check and it's there now

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Logged in 40 minutes late and bought what I could with leftover points, so got Pirate, Space and Logo. Even though Castle is my favourite theme, it wasn't my favourite coin. After-market might not be too bad after this latest batch and conscious there were paint issues with the early Castle coins.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I was interested in this and got the 5 coin case and the Castle coin last year but I was so not impressed with the finish of the coin I didn't bother afterwards. I'd rather use the points for discounts which will contribute to more sets, instead of something that's kinda sub par at best...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Got my 3 remaining coins (City, Castle, Pirates) with no issues here in the U.S!!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I got my logo coin, which was the only one I was missing before.

I should have not bought the Classic space off of bricklink. Could have saved me some money.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Redeemed all of my remaining coins + display case without issue here in the USA!

I think it's clear that it wasn't diminishing supply for later coins that made them sell out so quickly, but skyrocketing demand.

While Castle and Pirates are beloved classic Lego themes, they don't have identifiable logos the same way Classic Space does, which made Classic Space the most desirable coin. (Octan is a recognizable logo, but not remotely as beloved as Classic Space among AFOLs.)

Once people got one coin, they started to want more. And if you got two or three, then some of us started to want the entire set. (Many of us are Lego collectors, after all.)

I'm thrilled that Lego has rereleased these coins, because unlike some VIP rewards, they were never offered with a promise of a limited edition. Hopefully they have enough supply to cover the demand this time.

I got the camera on black friday, but then the order was lost forever in the warehouse. When they redid the order, they said that the camera was gone, so gave me points instead.

I checked today, and interesting interesting, the camera is BACK and available. So, the "limited time" was a lie, or the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.

Gravatar
By in United States,

So this wonderful gem right here:
"You’ll get a promotional code for the coin, which you can redeem with your next purchase on LEGO.com. The code is valid for 60 days and must be entered during checkout in the field labeled ""Enter Promo Code"". Shipping fees may apply.
You can only use one promotion code per order. This VIP promotion is subject to availability and only available while supplies last."

means that you can't just get the coins and holder in one go.

You must make a purchase for each. and. every. coin.

nice way for Lego to keep making money I guess.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I regularly use my points for vouchers so only had enough for one coin anyway. I did get the SPAAACE one though so I'm happy enough with that. Pleasantly surprised they were still available when I checked in.

Gravatar
By in United States,

What a pain in the backside but I managed to get everything and had enough small purchases in my wishlist to get the orders done. They really need to improve the process, though.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I placed an order yesterday because I was going to be short 150 points to get everything I wanted. Available sets to choose from was pitiful, seems like nearly everything is sold out or on back order, so I ended up buying the Mario and Luigi combo pack. Order has moved to the warehouse, so it cannot be canceled but I cannot use the points. So now I'm hoping the order clears the warehouse before all the coin holders are gone.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I missed the space coin last year and got it today without any problems.

Just 8000? Is that worldwide, or just for a specific territory? Either way (but especially the former), it sounds awfully low. Does anyone know what the totals are for each (including the original runs offered last year)?

At any rate, I just finally redeemed points for the LEGO logo coin, the last one offered and the only thing I wasn’t able to get the first time around. Yay! Looking forward to assembling the full set in the case together and then putting it up somewhere on a wall in the LEGO room. I was afraid there might be server issues or some other snag, but it was actually quite smooth for me here, and I was pleased to see they greyed out the options for the five items I’d already redeemed; they’re clearly doing their best now to ensure that as many fans as possible who want to complete a full set can do so.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I got all the coins and holder since I missed out on the first round (I missed the first couple and if I couldn't get them all I figured I'd just skip them, but now that I can, I ordered them).

Now I'm seeing though that I have to get them all in separate orders?! And all within 60 days?!! I knew I'd have to order something but wasn't expecting to have to order 6 somethings... (And all over $35 per order if I want to get free shipping.) I hope Lego lets people talk to CS and get them all added to one order. Anyone able to successfully do that with this or other VIP rewards/promo codes?

edit: So... if you have a Lego store nearby, I suppose you could also order something with each one enough to get free shipping, and then return those items in store? This is such a horrible way to force people to buy stuff, I really hope they change it or make an exception. Especially since there is so much out of stock and you only have 2 months to do it.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Managed to get the three coins I wanted (might get the holder if still available later). I already knew that you could only use one code per purchase, but the thing is the purchases I want to make are all "out of stock". Decision time - do I wait for "back in stock" or just get something I don't particularly want (plus postage)?

Gravatar
By in United States,

The one coin per order thing is a little surprising. Feels needlessly complex. Maybe they don’t want every person trying to get a complete set because of the limited supply?

Gravatar
By in United States,

As much as I would like to get the set, having to place 6 orders is ridiculous. 1 Keychain per order plus shipping will cost me $12×6 plus 6500 points. Pass. Another fail by Lego.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@The_Rancor:
They even reissued the long case? Good on them. I wasn’t sure if that was going to be included in the second batch.

In the US, Castle and the long case lasted over two weeks, because I think I got my first codes on the 17th. Pirates also lasted a few days. Octan blew out in hours in Europe, but lasted at least half a day in the US (I forgot to grab a code before work, and was a bit panicked when I read how things went in the EU). Space launched at least three hours early here, so it’s tough to gauge how that did, but it definitely sounded like it had the most demand early on. Coin 5 saw a late spike in demand once people realized that it was based on the old chrome-gold coin elements. And of course, that’s not even factoring in all the scalpers.

@banzaipinball:
Once points have been cashed in, VIP reward codes are valid for 60 days. After that, I believe the code expires and the points are refunded. That may make the reward item available again to anyone who happens to be browsing the Reward Center at the right moment, but I haven’t heard of anyone testing this.

@chrisaw:
Well, originally, the plan was you’d need to place six orders, but the code launches were scheduled to be spread out over a period of four months and one day. This would have effectively given you six months to redeem them all if you got every code locked in on the first of each month. The problem with this solution is it allowed word to spread that the coins were a points multiplier, meaning you could cash in points worth $X in rebates, and sell the coins for at least $2X. When the more desirable coins started dropping, scalpers were lined up to cash in. With a single drop this time, maybe they’ll avoid some of that escalation.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I could do with a 'Pick a brick' purchase, but I believe shipping is different to the usual stock. Anyone ever had trouble using a code for VIP stuff along with 'Pick a brick'?

Gravatar
By in United States,

11:15 AM EST and was able to get the Space Coin to complete my set. Availability looks to be better than the original run, we'll see how long they last.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I cannot not see myself using $50 worth of points to buy the whole kit (I have the Pirates one from last year). I got the Space one no problems and, to me, that is the most important one to get. Hopefully in the next two months, they will have stuff to sale (everything is either backorder or temporarily out of stock). To be honest, I don't really see the point of those memorabilia items but I guess I got the Space one to signify in some way to Lego that this is an important theme and (despite numerous attempt to convince them) they should bring it back (same could be said of Pirates and Castle). On that front, I guess Castle is doing better for a potential revival because every other sets voted on the Ideas platform is a castle.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I only had managed to get the octan before all were gone last year and was very disappointed, but I just managed to snag all of them and the case before missing yet another vip opportunity. I am now stunned in disbelief, and equally stunned that this matters so much to me, heh.

Thanks so much Huw for the heads up! That’s why I love this site and all who reside here. It’s one of the last places I can go were I can find some fun and peace, and forget the complete clustercrap we all face in the world today.

Ok, back to work.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Kaido:
We’ve seen zero evidence that this is possible. Codes ran out quickly, but not everyone placed orders immediately, so they do limit the number of codes available. Now, we also don’t know if they hold some physical rewards in reserve, so it may be possible that latecomers could find that their reward was lost, stolen, or damaged in the warehouse, or suffered a mishap during shipping, and we don’t know if they’ll get it replaced, or if they’ll have their points refunded.

But I’ve picked up two keychains, the full set of coins (including the case), and two sets. There are dozens of prints with limited runs. So far I’ve only seen two claims of having points refunded when trying to claim a physical reward that had gone out of stock. Sometime last year, someone spent points on either the Mickey Mouse mosaic, or the Mickey/Minnie statues, and got shut out because they apparently didn’t set aside a reserve stock for the VIP codes, and further down this thread @sjr60: mentions getting refunded for a limited art print. Best I can suggest there is to not dawdle when you get a code that’s sold out.

@LegoMike:
I got them all the first time, but it’s good to see at least a few people finishing the set.

@CCC:
Good thing rebates off of future rewards don’t work the same way! I’d be in a tizzy if I found out that a loyalty rewards program was designed to entice me to keep buying more product!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Whilst officially the VIP codes are valid for only 30/60 days in the past I've redeemed multiple patent prints for 150 points each and then taken more than 60 days to actually place enough orders to use up the codes! I was still able to use the codes beyond the stated elgibilty. (As they only cost me 150 points each I wasn't too fussed if I lost out)

As far as I'm aware once you have claimed a reward it then gets reserved for you. It doesn't get released after 60 days but clearly if the item has sold it the longer you leave it the bigger the risk if any stock got damaged or lost there are none left for you

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The Pirate coin code showed up later than the others.

This is a mess as usual on the Lego website.
Only one promo code per order is ridiculous.
6 separate purchases to get the full collection..... simply mental.

If they can't allow multiple promo codes on each order then
TLG should have had one promo code for the whole Coin collection......

Pick-a-Brick shipping is free if your older totals $35. Bricks & Pieces shipping is $2.95 if your order is *just* B&P, but if you have anything else you will get free shipping at $35. You can have $34.97 in B&P and a single 1x1 round plate with hole for $0.03. PAB counts toward gift with purchase while B&P does not, so if you are at $84.95, you can add a 1x1 brick from PAB for $0.07 and get 40491 Year of the Tiger.

Your coin will ship separately if you all order is PAB and/or B&P. You'll probably receive it by next week. but PAB and B&P are taking a couple of months. A PAB order I placed at the end of November (to hit the fleece blanket threshold) left Billund on December 7 and has yet to make it to DHL's US distribution center.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Each to their own of course. I've got enough VIP points but I feel I'd better enjoy a discount on a big set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I completely forgot about this notice from yesterday. I knew I'd be busy when they went live, so forgot all about it until I checked Brickset like I do every day. I logged in and redeemed for the Logo coin and called it good. I'm sure I could do the whole set for resale value, but if I don't plan on selling it, why hold onto it? I don't particularly care for the other coins. Now if castle would have been a faction I actually cared about, then I'd want to get it.

And I think I'd actually rather have the set if they were all not painted, but struck in the gold like the Logo coin. I'm sure it is just gold paint, but the solid color stands out to me more than the paint job on the other coins.

And hey, still the camera promo is available..that's not necessarily surprising, but interesting observation.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Well they have all been up for over 12 hours now and still all available - so either Lego have produced a shed load of coins this time …..or interest has dropped. I already have 3 of the 5 coins but have only just placed an order to get the camera promo so don’t want the stress of having to place another two orders to get the other coins, especially with the out of stock situation and the lack of info about future GWPs now. But I’m glad everyone can now get the coins they want and that the scalpers will lose out on this one.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@BJNemeth:
There are a few things that probably fed into it. There was no announcement that I noticed, so the number of people who were aware of these increased with each code that went live. While the first two codes were up for grabs, people came here and whinged up a storm about how they were “stealing our points”, so some of us made the mistake of pointing out that these coins were effectively points multipliers, since you could resell them for twice what the points used to grab them would have been worth in rebates, and scalpers took note. A lot of people wanted to collect them but had spent too many points, so they started saving for the later coins. A lot of people were also just killing time until the Space coin landed. The Octan coin sold out in hours in Europe, one nation didn’t even get access to it until half an hour after it was gone, and prices had ballooned since the Castle coin hit. Space launched a few hours early, creating more panic. The Ulysses fiasco happened before the final coin landed, both Ulysses and Coin 5 got delayed several days to the middle of a workday, and more people probably decided they only wanted some now that they had proven to be valuable.

Whatever the various reasons people actually wanted in, they all showed up in droves for a limited supply, and everyone was in a blind panic about the thought of missing out.

@Twolfboy21:
Not hardly. I used to burn my points off on every purchase, unless it was Double Points. Now I sit on them, waiting for stuff like this to pop up.

I was quite frustrated by this as well. Apparently, the codes are good for 60 days. So, if you're like me and you exchanged points for all the coins and the case, you are expected to place 6 different orders over the course of 60 days in order to get all of your "rewards." All this while their stock is pitifully low. I know that I don't NEED these coins, but it's such a tease. Seems like more of a VIP punishment program.

By in United States,

Thank you Huw for pointing out the value of 6400 points. So I can either get $50 off Moff Gideon’s Lightcruiser on May the 4th, or spend at least $210 plus tax on full-priced sets to get all 5 coins and the case.

Of course I could just order the Classic Space coin as it is the only one I really care about. But then I realized, I don’t collect coins. I’ll just put all my hard earned points towards good old fashioned money off my next purchase.

By the way, everything is still available in the US.

Given the article that just got posted today, and the fact that they’ve said before that the UK is considered to be a good testing ground for the world market, that minimum price might become standard across the board. Plus other stuff is clearly going to change, since you can’t count towards GWP and not count towards GWP, trigger free shipping and not trigger free shipping, etc.

It may not be as bad as it seems. I contacted Lego customer support and they credited me 3900 VIP points which is $30 USD. I ordered 1x of the Series 22 minifigures at $5/ea six times. With the VIP credit, my net cost was only $30 + tax.

The selection of in stock items (at least in the US) is terrible and I could not find anything to even justify one purchase. I ended up calling customer service to cancel the codes and refund the VIP points. Had I been able to get all coins with one purchase, I probably would have bought about $100 worth of sets for future gifts to get the GWP and the coins. But I was not about to make 6 small purchases of things I don't really want.

"Stonewars.de mentioned that there will be 8000 available of each. Just hoping that the Pirate Coin will remain for a one or two days, when I get more VIP points. "

Just 8000? Is that worldwide, or just for a specific territory? Either way (but especially the former), it sounds awfully low. Does anyone know what the totals are for each (including the original runs offered last year)?

.........................."

The previous round had 3000 of each coin, so at least the supply is much more generous now. And in case of buying from a reseller, the price will likely be much better than last time.

"

Just 3000?! That’s insane! I had no idea there were so few. I’m amazed now that I got as many the first time around as I did."

Initially they weren't that popular, with comments like: they're trying to rob us of valuable VIP points for a cheap piece of metal. The Castle coin was available for quite some time then.
Things become more desirable when they are scarce, and demand quickly outweighs supply once everyone wants them.

"Managed to get the Logo coin but like others have said, no sign of the pirate coin. It's annoying you can only redeem one code per order because to complete the set I would need to make six separate orders in the next 60 days which, as much as I love Lego, I'm just not going to do."

I only got the Lego Logo coin the first time around, so I had to get the four other coins to go with it along with the case which is already five orders. Then I got a Spider-Man art print and the camera set which totaled to 7 different orders. Lego wants us to make multiple different orders so they can get the maximum amount of earnings. It's very annoying and expensive, but at the end of the day, they're still a multi-billion dollar company that craves money.

"As much as I would like to get the set, having to place 6 orders is ridiculous. 1 Keychain per order plus shipping will cost me $12×6 plus 6500 points. Pass. Another fail by Lego."

It may not be as bad as it seems. I contacted Lego customer support and they credited me 3900 VIP points which is $30 USD. I ordered 1x of the Series 22 minifigures at $5/ea six times. With the VIP credit, my net cost was only $30 + tax."

I needed 4 coins and the holder, which I managed to redeem.

I was given 1500 point which translated to €10 - to help with the €60 in shipping costs I would need to collect my 5 "rewards" if I wanted to spend the minimum on each order. The fact that a keyring has the same shipping cost (€11.95) as a €40-55 set is absolutely ridiculous.

Because it was a special situation (all coins and holder available at the same time) - they really should have waived the 1 code per order BS - smacks of extreme greed, really shows VIPs how "important" they are and seems very anti-consumer.

@Muftak1:
The company I work for has a flat rate deal with FedEx. Amazon has (had?) a similar deal with the USPS for “last mile” delivery, where they would handle the entire trip only to hand it off to your local post office. That was flat rate, too, but the rate was so low that the USPS was reportedly losing money on every package they delivered, and Prime cranked the quantity through the roof.

If TLG is paying flat rate, it only makes sense for them to charge flat rate. Certainly better than the old system, where shipping just kept going up with the size of your order.

I placed 3 orders to get 3 coins shipped, all had $4.95 for shipping - even the Pick-A-Brick order for a single $.04 tile. I already received the coins, even though the tile from Pick-A-Brick is still "in warehouse". Waiting for the Wile E. Coyote and Roadrunner Brickhead to get the 5-coin holder shipped.
